    I live in the Barbican in the City of London in London England. Look up the Barbican if you are interested but it was the post world war 2 architectural project build in the City in the 1960s. The bathrooms have been slowly reaching the end of their lives/shininess eg the cast iron baths could go on forever but the enamel eventually dulls and thins. Anyhow, I refurbished my Mum’s place in 2004 but left her downstairs loo as was, fitting new toilets in the upstairs bathrooms. I can tell you that those loos never rushed properly, have been a compete pain and I am now refurbing again and will be be getting new ones (hence looking at this video). The old faithful downstairs is staying because decade after decade it reliably flushes and does its job.

    It is stated that the pressure assist toilets are noisy but that didn't seem to loud to me and it was quick. This 50 year-old toilet I am using now, which I am watching this video to replace, takes forever to flush with very low power. I even have to hold the lever down for maybe 8 seconds for it to completely flush because the flapper will not stay up.

    • @roningram5877
      @roningram5877 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm pure amateur, but the flapper may fall because the tank is emptying slow. I'd replace the flapper and be sure the pull chain is not a link too long. (check the chain first.)

      Check for mineral buildup in it before replacing it. If that doesn't work, adjust the water level to the highest setting possible. Do a video and I can tell you what's wrong with it.

    Nice video. What brand and model do you have in YOUR home (if you installed them)? I would imagine that's what we should all buy. We put Totos in our current house and LOVE them. We are looking for three new toilets for our new build, but Totos have skyrocketed! I suggested to husband "let's take our Totos with us" and guess what he said??? No!!!! Thanks for the great vid.

    I'd like to go to a second hand store and maybe find a Kilgore 108 or 109 from the 60s or early 70s, with that iconic trapway and those dual siphon jets. That's what I'd like! 😊😊😊😊😊

      The new category 4 toilets flush much better than those older toilets! The 3" flush valves on a high end HET of today removes 1,000 grams of solid waste every time. American Std. makes a unit that does this, as does Kohler. Now Toto is an excellent toilet too, but may cost more. The nut to crack is 1,000 gram removal! The Toto has a SaniGloss glazing that is supper smooth, does not stain like cheaper glazing. The uniformity of china and glazing is one issue, another is the "soft close seat" a nice feature. The flush handles are another issue, some are mushy, others are well defined and are soothe. 1.5 seconds is all that is needed to suck the bowl empty with an HET toilet.
      Happy flushing..
      Greg

      Thanks. good info. I've got 2 Gerbers that are good, but there's a couple of little things that are easier to order than to drive across town. I'm debating replacing one with a "comfort height" and I dunno whether to go back to the Gerber (Clogs are REALLY rare) or Am Std or Kohler. Still dunno. I think I want to get a 1.6 gal to push stuff to the street collector, not just halfway there.

    I saw a video for American Standard where they showed all the things that could be flushed by maybe their most powerful model but shouldn't. Have you see this including the ability to suck about 8 golf balls down in one flush? Can a pressure assist really flush all this volume and weight?

    • @TheGregchick

      Toilet openings? If you mean the floor flange the toilet bolts to, there is 3 or 4 inch dia. both use same bolts and same wax seal. If you mean bowl shape, two shapes exist, round/regular and elongated shapes. All of the mentioned is same coast to coast..

    Pay a dump fee to get rid of an old crapper (toilet)??? Just put it by the curb with a free sign on it. It will be gone in a flash. A lot of people don't like the low flush, multiple flush, easy to clog crap-ers. I quit using toilet paper the other day. Bought a Blue Bidet 3500, after hosing myself off I just sit there another 5 minutes and contemplate the meaning of life while I air-dry. Just doing my bit for the environment.
