Thanks.. excellent video! Quick q - if a service needs to return response back to request then do all responses go via envoy proxy as well ? Or envoy only comes when request is routed to service and if service wants to communicate to other service?

As someone who is trying to come up to speed on some of these "newish" dev ops tools, I couldn't agree more. Different people learn via different ways, and IMO Nana knows how to deliver the content based on a "what is the problem/challenge"..and this is how it is solved. While at the same time explaining the technical solution in an easily digestible format. Well done all around!!!

While others keep abstracting a concept with many even more abstracted terms and nested documents, you are doing such a great job that you try to explain in examples and then bring up the concepts in a clear way. Really thanks for your videos and diagrams in your videos. It saved me a lot of time to deal with the new terms and architecture.

"The network layer for service to service communication that consists of the control plane and proxies is the service mesh". Developers like to use fancy words like "mesh" to impress and confuse you, but when someone can just break it down into a sentence like this, they got my 👍. Thank you!

    • @fakecubed

They use those words because saying a lot of words when you can just say one is useful when you have to say it a lot of times to other developers.

You have great training skills, you make it look simple so people understands the concept.
I think that's the biggest and more important step before going into a new tool/app/technology.
If people get lost in documentation about a new tool, they will get frustrated and fear it.
Thank you so much for your contribution, I learned at my beginnings from your videos and they helped me a lot.
I always recommend you to people that want to understand what's under the hood.
Keep up the good work !

    Great tutorial.
However, I got few questions after watching this video.
    1. What makes ingress controllers like Traefik and Istio Gateway different?
    2. How mTLS is different from TLS?
    3. When can we expect a hands-on demo for this? 👏
It would be better if we can get some info how Prometheus and Istiod work together to provide metrics to the user.
And not to forget, thank you for your awesome content. 🙏🏻

    • @rafski123
      @rafski123 2 ปีที่แล้ว

mTLS is simply TLS in both directions. Normally when you use TLS, the server does not care about you and happily accepts your connection. mTLS verifies the client connecting.

First thing, if s1 is going to call s2 time of design it is clear both communite or not if both are in same intranet no worry about internal security as both in private subnet if both are in diffrent then difffrent security mechanism.
It is also like esb onky think creating multiple esb ( proxy)
It has pros and cons as increasing too much proxy also increasing manageability.
We can easily do all these thinks in interceptor and no need of extra complexity of service mesh
