One reason I love this channel is .... You ALWAYS show mistakes or talk about things that are difficult to do.... that makes you “normal” like everyone else in the building industry.... you don’t hide errors and make out you’re always right👍
I've never built a Herringbone panel using lines, always free hand by eye. That's the way I was taught, saves time. Your wall looks real nice. Great job. USA here.
I want to be a bricklayer so much I love it. I’m doing N5 construction course at College and I’ve done joinery, slating, plastering, brickie and scaffolding but I like the bricklaying the best so I hope I get into it in 2019
Great brick work Stu,it looked shocking before you cleaned it up,then boom looked great at the end, love the video’s,great to see some different brick work!🤘
Brilliant job Stu well done! Your 1st bottom perp and your forth bottom perp are bang in with the rest of the other brick within the Herrinbone line nice one!
Im about to try my second attempt too, since apprenticing about 8 years ago lol. Its on my house inbetween two panels of basket weave i finally got around to doing today. Love your vids bud. Theres still passion in the trade
Great work as always. Can you show the cleaning up and what is the acid you refer to for cleaning. I think I’m gonna need to do that on my garden walls
That’s incredible work , for some reason I’m sitting here trying to work out if I could survive on a mature age apprenticeship and start bricklaying haha so much more than just “laying bricks” ..... I’d try more decorative style if I ever learned the trade
I love the blue/black brick against the red. I'm planning on making my own version of this soon, thanks so much for the inspiration. The only thing that I would change is making the herringbone section 1 course more, 9 in total. This way you would break the bond of the top herringbone section against the stretcher courses (the bottom part of the herringbone is done this way). I'm really just being nit picky, but in a positive way :) I think you do amazing work and its inspiring
Great work as always, Iv just got my start as a Bricklayer and it's on internal Brickwork in a old pub. Can u give advice on how to lay bricks on an uneven ground or when the bricks itself are uneven with lumps. Thankd
Stunning work and love all your videos. Wish I had you here in the states in Pennsylvania. Sure could use your expertise. Thank you for all your videos. Great work.
Really enjoyed this demonstration of technique and willingness to show the mistake and correction. What is the base or platform you use to make the mockups on? Thx
Brilliant job Stu , well done well proud job, i have watched your tutorial and attempting three front steps not has easy as it looks third attempt may improve lol all the best.
Nice looking panel Stu 👍. I’m retired now and finished my career as an instructor. We all know layout is critical and centering a herringbone panel is even more critical. And the way you know you are properly centered is the cuts on either side are the same size. Your panel appears to be centered properly in the video. And I’m curious why you and others don’t describe the methodology of centering the panel during the layout. In other words, if you start by setting the first small cut dead center your side cuts will differ. What method did you use for layout? Or are your side cuts different?
This reminds me of my old man, he was a Bricky of the old school, did his apprenticeship in the late 1930's, he loved all this fancy stuff!

Glad you are intrigued by it buddy. It’s a cool skill and the possibilities are endless 👍

Looks nice good job. is there a reason why the pattern is not centered so cuts would be same size on both sides?
gonna do this at the back of my inglenook - yours is a piece of art mate. Cut and lay out first then do it
It happens buddy. The best of us make mistakes once in a while. But not that often. Looks good with that rake joint. I like it.
