When filming my golf tutorials I make note of the angle of shadows objects are casting and match it with the angle of the drop shadows I add to the text. Shadows at 45° from mid-morning / mid-afternoon sun being ideal for creating the illusion of 3D shape on objects and what is used by cartographers when depicting mountain relief on maps. They just draw the shadows the relief would cast at 2PM in the afternoon and the human brain uses the shape of the shadows to perceive via the relative length of the shadows the relative elevations of the terrain. The convention of always using an imaginary sun at 45° downward / forward angle makes the perception of elevation map-to-map more consistent, so if not trying to match the angle of the sun in a video 45° (pointing to 4:30 on watch face) is a good choice.
Definitely a slick little hack to use as you move across you timeline for smaller bits of text that you’d like to keep uniform. I’d love to see an auto generating .SRT addition to LumaFusion in the near future.
@@LumaTouch That is great to hear, thanks also for the feedback. I think it is pretty nice when people actually answer, it makes things real. I enjoy your tutorials, I’m relatively new to LumaFusion & have had some good support thus far. Keep up the good work. Matt
@@LumaTouch I was looking for this! I haven't bought the app yet because I am not 100% sold but LumaFusion is up there and would love to see advanced subtitles be included! Thank you for this tutorial. This might work for burnt-in captions, but text that can be exported as .srt file with time code would work better, for me.
@@LumaTouch I'm looking forward to that update! Also, could you check the key frames with cropping? @@LumaTouch Any progression about .srt file captions??
Another very helpful video! Thank you! (And just a suggestion, if I may: You may want to add a sentence advising people to make sure the location they chose for their text doesn't block something important from the screen. You never know. For example, in your soccer clip, I'd be careful to make sure that none of the frames have something important on the screen at the spot where you put the text, and I'd go a bit into the options of what to do if that would happen.)
Actually, you did mention it - at the very beginning. You said you'll move the text to the bottom of the screen so it won't cover any "exciting action" in the video. The point I was trying to make was to double check it when you're done - to watch the whole video from the beginning to ensure you didn't block anything. It's not enough to put it at the bottom of the screen on the assumption it won't block anything if it's put there, as you never know...
At 2:46 you rearrange the order of "this is my subtitie design" and the "Shape" fields as to make the text brighter- how do you do that???? Thanks so much
@@LumaTouch - but when i do it the text is behind the "Shape" so its dull (shaded by the box) How do you change the order of text and shape like you did at 2:46??- Thanks so much
thank you great tutorial!! I really like the splitting technique you use, as i was copying and pasting, which i think is definitely less efficient than splitting! awesome =)
I’d buy a little extra (as Addon) to have: auto-captions (dozens of apps are already doing this), with the ability to define the number of words per caption, or any equivalent animation (this method really increases retention, right now), and import / export of .srt. Cmon, Luma developers, marketers, just do it! I’m counting on you! :-)
Nice one. Really useful. I’m struggling with getting the speech to text working so I can record the timeline audio into the title, then edit it to suit.

That’s ok. I can voice record directly into the title. That’s cool. But I can’t record the video track voice into the title directly. iOS can’t run the two at the same time. Just an idea. Audio out -> Mic in.
Would be great to be able to generate .SRT, .VTT, and .TXT files for closed captioning and transcripts. This would help with meeting WCAG accessibility standards.

Hi Caroline. I've just found this and it looks good. I noticed when you were demonstrating how to create this and the text was covering two lines. Would it be a good idea when only writing one line of text to finish typing with a lot of spaces so that it pushes it up a line and then is on the top line like the rest of the text when you start reading them. just a thought and I haven't tried it yet.
Nice twist. I used to copy and paste the subtitle and edit the text... for some reason the x and y coordinates would often change slightly... any idea why?
I’m just checking LumaFusion does not have its own way of transferring what you were saying on screen to a text down the bottom does it? I use CapCut for this, but I was just hoping that LumaFusion does it too? So much to learn. Lots of love from beautiful Ballarat. Thank you for your hard work.😘
Hi there, and thank you for the kind words. We don't yet have a way to do this speech-to-text function, but we are looking into how we could best implement it in some future release. Thanks for your interest.
Thank you for your videos, as an absolute beginner to using LumaFusion though you go much too fast. I am having to rewind the videos time after time to try and catch what you clicked on. If you could think of the beginner and slow down just a tad it really would be helpful for many people, especially those who are new to LumaFusion.

Can you please do a tutorial on how to reacquaint my projects to the videos that I archive off my iPhone or iPad (I usually edit with my iPhone), to an SSD drive? The memory on my iPhone is almost full and I need to move them to the SSD, but I suspect that my projects will no longer work, once I move the video files (according to your tutorial about working off an external drive). Also, can I move the projects off the iPhone to the external drive and access both my projects and video files off the external drive? I wasn’t clear on that in the last tutorial. He just showed putting the projects on the iPhone and iPad and accessing the files on the drive.
You can't edit directly from an SSD using an iPhone, since External Drive Editing requires the increased data transfer speed available in USB-C. We can add that to the list of ideas but you can also email us via support@luma-touch.com. We'll assign a LumaFusion specialist to your case and help find the best workflow for you.
rather than drag the subtitle to fill the whole timeline, it’s actually better just to stylize one and create a “preset”. Every time you want to add subtitle , just apply the preset.🎉
There's no easy answer to that. You're flipping a coin no matter where you place them then. We'd try to do a trial upload and find out exactly where those titles will appear. Take a few screenshots throughout the video and use it as reference.
