He even congratulated her on her success, he definitely took the high road, but the paparazzi and fans just kept attacking him, he has to and has the right to stand up for himself. And he put his pain into art, they’re lyrically masterpieces, the production of the MVs, the visuals are top notch! The “mom called me” part hurts me the most too, there’s no greater pain than seeing your loved ones in pain, my heart breaks for him! He deserves the best!
Sad part is once driver's license came out Joshua Bassett was fighting for his life almost died. I saw recently that Josh said they hadn't spoken since January. I have no idea how they are going to do HSMTMTS season 3 together. Maybe Olivia will only come back for a couple episodes and then get written off.
I can totally see Olivia get written out. And personally, I would be kinda ok with it?
Her character took kinda too much spotlight away in season 2, and also became kinda boring.
And even if she is still a lot in the show, they can definitely limit the interactions between her and Joshua, since they have already broken them up etc.

LEGAL!
Somebody here referred to the possibility that Olivia was instructed by her management not to comment on the death threats. When I read that, the word LEGAL flashed into my mind. It is very possible that her attorney(s) told her AND her management not to make any public comment on the death threats. In that case, Olivia may have also told not to contact Joshua or discuss this with any of her friends.
Why?
Let's say Olivia had made a public statement on the death threats. In doing do so, she would have acknowledged a possible link between her and those threats, that is, fans' reaction to HER music was translating into death threats to Joshua.
Had something happened to Joshua, that acknowlegement could have been the basis for a massive civil suit on the part of Joshua against Olivia and her management.
Now some of you are going to point out that in August, Olivia spoke out against the fallout created by her songs but if you look carefully at that Buzzfeed post, she really skirts the heavy stuff, like death threats, and addresses only how people read too much into her lyrics.
I realize this might seem a bit farfetched and maybe I am wrong, but I think it is worthwhile to consider the legal element here. I do not want to sound arrogant or condescending but I am probably a bit older than most of you and I have seen how this sort of thing works through my own experience in the business world, where legal issues are constantly at hand. Believe me, gag-rules like I cite above DO exist.
Of course, this explanation does not help poor Josh but I am hoping that he sought help from friends, therapists, etc. It is not like he was destitute. He or his management could have hired protection and they probably did. Let's hope the release of these songs will help him to feel better and move on.
Thing is as much as it could be possible I don’t think that was the case bc many other celebrities have spoke out in situations similiar to this where somebody was receiving death threats. I think what is possible is she could have been told not to say anything and not to contact Joshua or speak with him. Either way it’s still fucked up. She could have easily supported him the way he did to her and maybe talked it all out with him but none of that happened
I do think that Olivia, did not do the mature thing in not specifically bringing out the death threats and denouncing them. Up until this drama, it was a classical PR move from the artist who started the drama, to come out and say, in laymen's terms, "Guys y'all are taking this too far." Now, we have to also realize that Josh was in the hospital fighting for his life within days of the drop, heart failure is no joke, and this was also at the height of the hate. Within hours of that news breaking, both Olivia and Sabrina should have come out and said, "look let's end this beef because our ex is fighting for his life and we don't want to be responsible for his death." Luckily he lived, but his story isn't getting the traction it should. When he finally came out with a statement back in June?, not only did he discuss his near death experience, and his thoughts of just letting go, but he also came out and stated that through therapy he realized that he's at least a member of the queer community. Within a week that was old news, and Olivia's Sour was still the top album of the year. And now he's releasing his side of the story. We need to listen to him because he was a victim during this entire year.

na this song is clearly about her and her fans. secrets is about someone else (he said it, tho he didn't mention names) and set me free is about everything (Olivia, fans, hospitalization, SA, etc)
as a livie my self, i still have mixed feelings. Crisis is a good song, vocal and melody wise. but the lyrics are kind of cringe to me. I rather see/listen singer-songwriters write about the actual experience of the heartbreak or trauma than the social media aspect of it. because he didn't just talk about the relationship, but he's claiming Olivia was fanning the flame, making a career out of it - this is straight up trying to invalidate Olivia's art. Also his other new song, Secret, is childish to me. if he has something to say, then say it, don't make it ambiguous. Listen to Olivia or Taylor's songs, they are so specific, deep, and tells a story. Secret is even more cringe it sounds like pre-teen drama. he's supposed to be more mature than this. I partly blame his label for trying to make him take advantage of the social media drama, hence "don't waste a crisis".
I mean in my opinion Olivia’s songs are cringe bc u can tell they were written by a teenager. Basically what Joshua was trying to get across in crisis is that his label pushed him into making a song about it. That she benefited from the headlines and not saying anything to stop the hate. He’s not talking about the media only. In secret he did say what the secret was clearly in the line “swore that you only had a crush told me you would cut him off” and he made references to Olivia. As well as the music video also tells u what the secret is. He’s saying she cheated on him. Olivia’s songs made it seem like she was heartbroken and that he left her for Sabrina. Then he comes out and says that she left him and that she cheated on him so really what the real case here is they were children when they dated. They were and still are a bit emotionally immature. They’ve both only had 3 relationships. They’re barely learning to navigate relationships. Like josh said there’s a lot of responsibility that comes with a relationship and he’s not ready for that. Considering how he was bullied off of social media by fans and grown adults and the media and everywhere he went it was her music and ppl harassing him all bc of a teenager break up I mean he’s obviously angry. The lyrics just come off as angry and fed up to me. Olivia’s lyrics aren’t as direct but he didn’t have to make them vague bc he knows everybody will know either way. I think josh is a great lyricist despite ppl having mixed emotions about that. You also got to consider how he was working on season 2 of their show together and she wouldn’t talk to him and then he almost dies at the same time he’s receiving death threats and she doesn’t do anything to stop the hate nor reach out privately. He tries to reach out and she still won’t talk to him. She didn’t even say anything till like over 6 months later and she didn’t even address the death threats she just said she doesnt know why ppl read too much into her lyrics. These songs are just josh writing for his label but also just saying what he wanted to say. They do not define who josh is as an artist. He’s also not the only writer on the songs. He said he’s working on his album and is coming out with a podcast next year to talk about heavy stuff like his sexual abuse I’m guessing since he brought it up with that. He’s clearly trying to move on. Like his song only a matter of time is beautifully written about ppl who accused him of SA and then later admitted they lied. Consider he made a good 4 u reference i secret it’s fair to assume that songs about him and well in that song she calls him a sociopath basically I mean… last summer olivia wrote a song called victim…should probably go read that bc 😬yikes. Also u don’t like how blunt he is in crisis but then u don’t like how vague he is in secret. It just sounds like ur bias.
@@heartbreakhotel4278 yeah, i like his older stuff - it showed case his songwriter much better than these 3 songs from his new EP. you have your opinions, i have mine. totally valid. I still think if you're going to write a song to respond or diss, using social media as clout is cheap. He did mention some points about the relationship, like she left him first - that's specific (good). but the Secret song is cringe because he's implying Olivia cheated it but not really saying it, only teasing it. he should have just be specific. he's a man, not a teenager. The overall message is still more about the social media aspect rather than the relationship. with purposely being ambiguous, it's only going to stir more hate (and clicks - which seems like what he's after). that's my opinion.
Taylor accuses people of stuff in her songs too and Olivia kind of did as well accusing him of not complimenting her, mistreating her, and being a traitor. They all do it as a career move like he mentioned. You can’t waste a crisis when you’re an artist so now he’s doing the same.
Oliva definitely ended up being my most listened to artist of the year on Spotify tho😭 but I love Joshua Bassett and Idek if the secret song is really about her since the set me free song even though some lyrics make references to a girl, it actually was about more than just the drama.
@@jypsych3556 I agree with most. but for Set me free, if he never came out in public interview and say it was about his SA almost everybody would not know that and since the lyrics are heavily pointed towards responding to Olivia, the fans would definitely think it's about Olivia. So again, ambiguity. Honestly I like his songwriting a lot, but just disappointed in this EP. Hope he bounces back. and i hope Olivia's next album doesn't look back and respond to this. Be the bigger person and make the drama turn into noise - which is what Joshua should have done.
