He still went back to work after that, but his former buddies at the precinct (some of which had helped to convict him, although he was innocent) didn't like that very much and tried to get him to quit with some subtle bullying and using his new partner Dani Reese (who was still dealing with her past and current substance abuse) as a spy to collect dirt on him and force him out. In addition to navigating workplace intrigues, he also had to get used to technological and societal developments he had missed due to his time in prison - like those stupid sensor taps in public bathrooms, that require you to use Italian levels of sign language for 20 minutes on the whole room, before you accidentally hit the spot and they spray water for 3 seconds. And the event that got him convicted seems to have been orchestrated by a conspiracy, that is connected to organised crime, so he has to solve that as well... while his prison buddy Ted (former CEO convicted for insider trading), who moved in with him and became his financial advisor kept buying shit like orange plantations with his money, because he thought he was Lieutenant Dan or something. It was a really well-made, complex show with interesting characters, elaborate plot lines, great single episodes and at the same time a good overarching story, that connected everything. I liked the actors, the setting and the subtle humour of it, that came organically with the main character's difficulty of catching up to modern life - as if he had been in a coma for 12 years. Many characters had some "internal dynamite": Charlie had become a fruit-loving zen master in prison, but we were kind of waiting for him to drop that and go totally ballistic, because he had been mistreated and traumatised so badly in those 12 years, that he could as well have snapped and become a serial kill*r. Ted was always on the brink of committing fraud or running off with the money, although he was a really good friend - but letting him take care of the money was like asking Winnie the Pooh to guard your 50 million honey jars. Dani never really got off her alcohol and other drugs, and for a while her loyalty was more than questionable. TL; DR: The show was well-liked and had good numbers, but was cancelled after 2 seasons because of the world economic crisis (2008). Allegedly people didn't want to watch drama anymore, because they had enough financial drama at home, so it was dumped for some silly comedy shows. As someone who'd love to see a version of *War Of The Worlds* that takes place when the original book was published, I went into this with high hopes. I was not disappointed.
I only saw this movie years later after its release on TV, and I LIKED it. it was totally not what I had expected from the cinema trailers, which made it look like a light hearted and silly bit of fun, but was in fact a pretty good alien invasion flick that just happened to take place in the old west instead of modern times.
I enjoyed this movie. I've rewatched it a few times. I like the genre mash up and seeing Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford together is worth the price is admission.
This is a fantastically entertaining movie. One of my favorites. Like Princess Bride will be much more appreciated by viewers for decades, rather than by critics who can’t get their heads around the idea that movies sometimes are just supposed to be fun and entertaining.
Hugely underrated film, and one of my favorites. John Favreau is a true visionary, and have loved just about every movie I've seen directed by him. Love the movie's music score as well! It certainly was an adventure, and that's what movies are all about.
I liked the soundtrack, casting , it just needed a bit more "predator" feel to it, the realisation that shotguns would be slightly more effective than pistols, or some buffalo rifles or elephant guns being used.
Great movie! Tons of fun! It packs in the best elements of both western, and sci-fi genres! The scenery is breathtaking, the performances are superbly appropriate, and the special effects are top notch! I guess this was just another example of the general public just “not getting it”. It’s right up there with “Big Trouble in Little China” when it comes to folks missing out on the fun. Oh, well. I saw it opening day, again the next week, and got it on DVD when it hit stores! It doesn’t matter to me if people think it’s “dull”. I still pop that movie in, and enjoy every frame! 🤠👽👍
I remember this one as a rare surprise when I saw it in the theater. I went expecting glorified trash but found the final movie to be pretty solid, especially considered the troubled production and excess of screenwriters and producers. And I saw it again on Blu-ray in late 2019 and thought it held up pretty well...
you know when rockstar took inspiration of this movie for rdr2, then you know its good! because when you arrive at the pond seeing the beam of the ufo for the first time you go like: "hey thats the scene from cowboys and aliens, awesome!"
I was so ready to love this movie back then, but ended up merely liking it. There indeed is something off about it which is hard to pinpoint. Still, kudos for trying, the cast and Favreau make it work nonetheless.
I enjoyed this movie, and I love the concept of cowboys fighting aliens. Can't believe it didnt work very well, it has the workings of a very popcorn eating-worthy movie.
I was dying to see it all that summer but was too busy taking care of my mother at the time, so when I finally did and I was bored to tears after the first 30 min, I was bitterly disappointed. We all know from Muse's Knights of Cydonia video that cowboys and aliens CAN indeed mix!!
I went into this on an airplane with zero expectations, but it wasnt half bad. I wont say run out and see it, but it's good enough for a rainy night or a flight.
One of my favorite moments in movie history is when they have the big action set piece with Daniel and Olivia on the ship, and after they jump off into a lake, Daniel says “We were flying…”. Hilarious, realistic, and the only thing I remember about this film.
I also liked, how they never said things like: spaceship/ blasters etc but used time appropriate words to describe all the alien stuff. Edit: do they even acknowledge them as aliens? Like creatures not from this world? It’s been a while since I’ve seen the movie so I don’t remember. I wanna say they referred to the aliens as demons but I might be wrong
The idea of “viewer fatigue” is a misnomer. Viewers will enjoy a good innovative movie. The problem isn’t that the viewers are fatigued, the problem is the writers have run out of ideas. What is “fatiguing” is writers trying to stay innovative and still be good. The viewers don’t get tired of good movies, the writers get tired of making good movies which gets increasingly difficult in saturated medium. Don’t blame the viewers, it’s the writers that are tired... and boring.
JOHN CARTER. Saw Cowboys & Aliens for the first time tonight. I liked that all the characters were fighting for their loved ones: a wife, grandfather, and a son.
I too had high expectations since I liked all the concepts and yet I see now the main flaw IMO was cross-purposed storylines. I didn't like the plot angle that aliens needed our gold! What was an action western sci fi film combo, turned into a heist film too!!? The Mandalorian is done right in that the aliens are interspersed and accepted, not just villainized and one dimensional. It's Still confusing to me that simple savage (pardon the pun) monsters can create such intricate sophisticated devices and tech - maybe the same could be said of us.
😅😂😂😆😁😁😁😁😆😆😆 Now we have his final JB movie about to be released. I wonder what happened Daniel? I guess the money they gave you was too much to pass lol. Not worth self-inflicting yourself when you get paid in the multi-millions. 😉

We loved it. When I first heard the Title I exclaimed to my wife..”How in the Hell did it take this long to come up with this concept?” It was a fun movie.
This was one of the biggest disappointments I’ve ever had going to see a film. My sister and I saw it together and for years we’ve been sending each other DVDs and Blu-Rays of it as joke gifts.
I remember having watched this at the theater when it came out. I must've been 12 or 13 at the time and was absolutely disturbed at the alien experiment scene.
"Cowboys and Aliens" was actually a really fun watch! I enjoyed it enough for me to watch it for a second time (after being reminded of it, with THIS video)!😁👍
I was a member of a sci-fi book club and I remember seeing this book in the catalog. I thought that it was interesting, but I decided to buy another book instead.
I loved this movie since the first time I saw it. Still do. Admittedly though, Westworld the series has done a better job of blending sci-fi and western together.
I was quite excited when I saw the trailer for this film. Great talent involved, and the title "Cowboys & Aliens" promised to be some pulpy fun and adventure. But the tone of the movie was much darker than I expected, and although I don't remember much about the movie, I recall it verging into traumatic horror. In the middle of the movie, I said to myself, "I'm not having fun". The movie just took itself way too seriously.
I found this movie very enjoyable. Daniel Craig has been in a variety of non-007 movies and he is very good. Olivia Wilde is gorgeous and has been in several of my favorite movies like 'Butter' and 'Better Living Thru Chemistry'. Maybe it was my own imagination that helped this movie make sense in my head. I could easily imagine that tough, heavily armed early westerners would be formidable opponents for aliens. .

Their is a BBC 2019 VERSION set in victorian Britain as in the books .Its not to bad and can be found on Amazon prime .
This movie struggled a bit tonally and identically, but still had a big heart. I don't love it, but I appreciate it's existence.
Future cult classic right here.
This is a great movie, I have the DVD and have watched it 6 or more times.
Loved it...mixing western movies with sci-fi, it was an original idea. The movie was really enjoyable. Dunno why it wasn't succesful 🤷🏻♂️
The sound effects Deserved an oscar
David Hayter, mentioned at 5:45, was the voice of Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid. For those that didn't know. Awesome.
I liked the soundtrack, casting , it just needed a bit more "predator" feel to it, the realisation that shotguns would be slightly more effective than pistols, or some buffalo rifles or elephant guns being used.
A great "guilty pleasure" to watch! I have the extended version on disc.
Right. This and John Carter. Why didn’t people like these movies? They are great entertainment.
Near the end there's a scene where Daniel Craig goes full Doom-Guy, one of the strongest moments in this movie 😏
I always liked this one, sad it’s been largely forgotten
I was so ready to love this movie back then, but ended up merely liking it. There indeed is something off about it which is hard to pinpoint. Still, kudos for trying, the cast and Favreau make it work nonetheless.
First 30 minutes or so are perfect, then once they hit the road it really goes downhill
@@wiseauserious8750 Agreed!!!
At least Harrison ford was truthful about it. Most actors try to sell movies they star in like it's the best thing they have ever made.
I went into this on an airplane with zero expectations, but it wasnt half bad. I wont say run out and see it, but it's good enough for a rainy night or a flight.
Thought it was fun at the time (circa high school). Indy and Bond in a Sci-fi/Western directed by Jon Favreau, what a combo.
I really enjoyed this movie, and still watch it occasionally. I'd wondered why it seemed to fly under the radar.
Underrated movie. Thumbs up and hats off
Maybe it should become a streaming series.
I think it is underrated.
One of my favorite moments in movie history is when they have the big action set piece with Daniel and Olivia on the ship, and after they jump off into a lake, Daniel says “We were flying…”. Hilarious, realistic, and the only thing I remember about this film.
Yeah, a fat guy in AICN said exactly de same thing
I also liked, how they never said things like: spaceship/ blasters etc but used time appropriate words to describe all the alien stuff.
Edit: do they even acknowledge them as aliens? Like creatures not from this world? It’s been a while since I’ve seen the movie so I don’t remember. I wanna say they referred to the aliens as demons but I might be wrong
@@jl.7739 IIRC, they called them demons until Ella explained the situation.
I've seen this and it's a GOOD movie. Many interesting combinations and conflicts.
I almost forgot that there was a short era where everything HAD TO BE 3D.
I wish I had forgotten
But I still think it's hilarious that 'The Far Side' actually had this idea first! LOL! =)
I have one word for anybody who says cowboys and aliens don't mix... FIREFLY
Mandalorian is basically a reboot of this, am I right?
I too had high expectations since I liked all the concepts and yet I see now the main flaw IMO was cross-purposed storylines. I didn't like the plot angle that aliens needed our gold! What was an action western sci fi film combo, turned into a heist film too!!?
The Mandalorian is done right in that the aliens are interspersed and accepted, not just villainized and one dimensional.
It's Still confusing to me that simple savage (pardon the pun) monsters can create such intricate sophisticated devices and tech - maybe the same could be said of us.
I've never seen this one, but now that you mention it has no humor and takes itself seriously, it's shooting up on my watchlist.
Yup. It’s an actual western. No goofy „wild Wild West“ shit here.
A very underrated film l always enjoy watching it.
This is the movie where Daniel Craig says in the commentaries that he'd rather slit his than make another bond film.
😅😂😂😆😁😁😁😁😆😆😆
Now we have his final JB movie about to be released. I wonder what happened Daniel? I guess the money they gave you was too much to pass lol. Not worth self-inflicting yourself when you get paid in the multi-millions. 😉
Don't let critics tell you what to enjoy. Your tastes are yours, and yours alone. [BTW, critics see movies for free. You have to pay for them.]
Whenever the critics write glowing reviews, I know I am NOT spending money on it. If they go the opposite way, then 98.5% of the time, I Love the movie. You are ABSOLUTELY correct zurn41!!!!!!
We loved it. When I first heard the Title I exclaimed to my wife..”How in the Hell did it take this long to come up with this concept?” It was a fun movie.
I've been watching westerns my whole life TV shows and movies. And I love this movie
This was one of the biggest disappointments I’ve ever had going to see a film. My sister and I saw it together and for years we’ve been sending each other DVDs and Blu-Rays of it as joke gifts.
This movie was pretty damn good in my opinion, not sure why people disliked it so much.
A great movie! Just watched it again, it ages very well.
I remember having watched this at the theater when it came out. I must've been 12 or 13 at the time and was absolutely disturbed at the alien experiment scene.
I ve seen it on streaming with 0 expectations( and for Olivia Wild). I found it surprisingly fun and pleasant
The critics were full of it. It was a good movie. I rewatch it often.
I really liked this film.
Where we went wrong in human history if "aliens," left people figuring out that they expected a comedy?!?
Great video! Can you guys do one for Ishtar and Men in Black 3?
I actually really liked this movie. It wasnt amazing or anything but it was entertaining
Even though the movie failed to please audiences you have to admit the bracelet blaster is epic
Imagine Cowboys vs Avatars, oh wait 😏
I was quite excited when I saw the trailer for this film. Great talent involved, and the title "Cowboys & Aliens" promised to be some pulpy fun and adventure. But the tone of the movie was much darker than I expected, and although I don't remember much about the movie, I recall it verging into traumatic horror. In the middle of the movie, I said to myself, "I'm not having fun". The movie just took itself way too seriously.
I dont remember much of the movie, but I remember thinking "That wasnt bad. I enjoyed it." Maybe I should re-watch it
I remember making a "spoof" of this movie for a school project with my friends around 5 years ago
I could easily imagine that tough, heavily armed early westerners would be formidable opponents for aliens. .
I don't know why this movie worked for me, but it did.
