Many of her actions were deplorable (whether she was truly aware of the Orochi's power influencing her), but her meaning of self-sacrifice and wanting Himeko to live was was very admirable, even if she did pay the price. When Himeko realized that Chikane was neither human nor celestial being and needed just as much of her love and protection, despite how much she had been hurt by her, Chikane falling to despair gave her the drive to protect her. On Himeko's part, I found that extremely touching.
Probably one of my favorites from the series, alongside of "Your darkness and hopelessness are like vapor, they're nothing more than shadows that shall melt away and disappear under the moon's light." when Chikane says that, you know shit gets real. And the whole confession with Himeko saying its pointless to compare themselves to the sun and the moon and the gods, because they were always human and imperfect, and that's why they desired and needed one another. I just thought it was adorable.
Chikane: Himeko, do you love me? Himeko: Um.. yeah? Lol if one of my friends asked me that i would begin to wonder if she was into me. Jesus christ how does himeko not understand >.
Maybe it's because female friendship in japan looks like a romantic relationship sometimes. Girls walk hand in hand, say they love each other, while being just friends.
Well girl pals are usually touchy or flirty with each other(in normal way) , so yeah it will be confusing for anyone but yeah if the girl said it while acting this strange like Chikane while doing a slight kabedon, then the answer is clear.
Thank you. I agree with you on everything except one thing. In normal circumstances, Chikane is a really, really shy and reserved person. She's practically as uke as Himeko. The only thing that masks that is how everyone thinks she's kind, smart, beautiful and compassionate, so she's perfect. Chikane doesn't think that at all and resents others seeing her like that. Also, she wasn't even sure if Himeko would forgive her, she only cared that Himeko was the one who survived. Its tragic, really.
I think the director Stephanie Sheh who also voices Himeko, felt more rationally about it. Maybe she's just required to go along with it, but I can't see that. For someone to play a character like Himeko but also convey the sentiments and scenarios of a myriad of characters with multi-faceted personalities, you would have to be able to understand each and every one. Its safe to say it was heartbreaking for her to work on this scene though. Michelle Ruff, somebody needs to give that woman a hug.
It has been such a long time since, I've last seen this anime. My understanding of this anime, now, is much more different then it was back then. And I agree with you, when you say that the only thing Chikane wanted was for Himeko to be the one who survived.
I liked it...they showed the added tension because Otoha knew that her mistress/secret maiden was getting hurt and she wanted to help but Chikane pushed her away. She must have realized that Chikane loved Himeko but other things were causing her to suffer (similar to Makoto and Himeko's talk in ep 10, how Mako knew something was up but never questioned her). She wrote the letter to Himeko in the next episode because she accepted that it was her who needed to protect and love Chikane, not Otoha.
In the manga (ewww, no likey), she's right outside the door...while this takes place in the cave...yeah, she takes Himeko's virginity with the hilt of her sword to awaken Ame no Murakumo...you don't really get that in the anime, because its subtle yet obvious. In the anime, she sent her away to go take care of her uncle...yeah, and Otoha knew shit was about to go down... ;_;
I just noticed that Chikane's last name is Himemiya. Which is also the last name of Anthy from Revolutionary Girl Utena. Were the creators of these 2 yuri's best friends? Great minds must think alike.
Himeko isn't going to hate her. And she doesn't have Stockholm Syndrome either. The rape, no matter how wrong and controversial it was, was a wake up call. She realized how much Chikane loved her, and that by bottling up her own love she made her suffer. She wanted to end both of their pain, and she would go to measures she never thought she had the ability to endure. In my opinion, Himeko becomes more confident and her character is redeemed, and she does some very honorable things in the end.
Well, it's not really a continuation per se, it's more of a new series with completely unrelated story lines but with similar character designs. I believe what you are looking for is Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora.
Your comment has made my day. Even though I only saw about 21 episodes of Bleach, and didn't really have an interest in it or just never bothered continuing, I shipped Rukia with Orihime the minute I found out they had the same voices as Chikane and Himeko. That and also Rukia seems very close to Orihime even in the early episodes. Neither of them even know if they truly like Ichigo, or if he even feels the same way. Oh well, problem solved, thanks KNM, koi. :3
Its strange, because yuri was originally a subgenre in shoujo manga, similar to yaoi. Girls were the target demographic. While men always love seeing girls together, there's no exception to girls finding yuri cute and attractive, and they don't even have to be bi or lesbian. Maybe it's because of some of the moe and melodramatic trends that yuri has become popular in shonen. KNM may be a shonen series, but I think it can garner an audience of girls with some familiar themes.
Yes, it was the sheath that holds her dagger. And they did it in the shrine bc deflowering Himeko would immediately summon Ame no Murakumo, so Himeko wouldn't have to die after defeating Orochi. However, Chikane was still upset, and even tried to kill herself during their sword fight on the moon. I don't really like the manga, but I also haven't read it in a while. The virginity thing makes sense as much as the get her to hate Chikane and I respect it, but the anime does it far superior.
Don't think for a second Chikane was happy about this. In fact, if it wasn't for the fact that she wouldn't kill the one she loved but also had to provide virgin blood from one of the priestesses to the gods, this scenario is the last thing that she would allow to happen. But she knows that Himeko will suffer, so she has no choice. She puts her own happiness before hers. And if this were a normal situation, Chikane would not go down on Himeko without her consent. She's not that type of girl. :/
Although my response would be that they both love each other and on normal circumstances they would mutually ravish one another, Himeko is freaking out because she doesn't like desperate, angsty, dark, inhuman Chikane, because that's not the Chikane she fell in love with. Yet, she also seems very willing and doing little to resist, arguably because she was sick of having these feelings bottled up, and didn't want Chikane to suffer because of her obliviousness.
Well, Himeko probably would have been okay with it if it were a happier situation and both weren't obliviously angsting over each other like fuck. But it was still traumatizing and painful for both of them, because Chikane thought that Himeko didn't love her and this would make her hate her and Himeko loved Chikane and couldn't stand seeing her suffer. They could have just confessed and turned it into a consensual first time right then and there, but then there would be other issues...
Chikane had no intention of doing such things. She's actually a very reserved and shy girl, and does not act like a pervert (well, except in the manga, that is). This is not supposed to be a pleasurable experience, she is hating herself and damning herself for doing this to Himeko, and whether or not Himeko would have been okay with, she is sad to have her first time with the one she loves bc neither will enjoy it, both will feel like they are hurting one another. And this isn't a hentai either.
No. But I think if Ikuhara made KnM, people would pay more attention to it. Oh whatever, it's still my second favorite anime of all time after Madoka Magica and before Revolutionary Girl Utena (though they serve as my top 3 so the lines of which I prefer the most are not properly drawn, nor do I want them to be, because I love them all). :P
Although this is a very little part of the episode, I think its funny how Ogami says in such a cheesy way "Nice work!" to himself. LMAO No mech fights=a good day. XD But yeh, because of this anime I dig guys on motorcycles ;D I'm so weird...XD 6:00 "My Himeko sense are tingling!" XD Man, when Chikane's calling Ogami a waste I so wanted to reach right through the screen and bitch-slap her. Actually, the entire second half of this episode made me want to slap the shit out of her.
Chikane feels guilty for killing himiko in her past lifee soo She goes to the dark side or whatever its called soo himiko could hate her & kill her in the end . Soo thats why she does that . B'cause in the end one of them has to die so the earth could be rebuilt .
omg, i wanted them to be together, but with what happened?this is messed up! for whatever honorable reason Chikane might have, this is still so wrong. Is she prepared to be hated by Himeko?
It's still a good dub. The voices are kind of annoying but you get used to it. They are a lot better than the Japanese, from what I've seen of the sub. Especially Chikane's. Himeko's voice being annoying I get, but I would assume dub fans who watched this series would tolerate that because her voice actress also plays Orihime from Bleach and Hinata from Naruto. Plus, Stephanie Sheh gets typecasted a lot. It's still a good dub, imo. You don't have to agree. Dialogue is perfect, though.
DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, COMPARE KANNAZUKI NO MIKO TO TWILIGHT!!!!!! HIMEKO IS NOT AN EMOTIONLESS SKANK AND CHIKANE IS NOT A LASCIVIOUS VAMPIRE ASSHAT!!!!! Oh, and Souma is not a werewolf pedo. Seriously, this is the second time I've seen a comparison like that.
No you aren't. There's nothing wrong with watching a yuri anime. Lots of anime have yuri in it, even though most of the time its subtext between minor characters. If you watch yuri anime, it just means you find girls being together cute and romantic, as well as seeing a lesbian relationship in place of hetero one that drives the series.
Well the manga is... different to say the least. It's quite a bit more explicit than the anime, but yeah I'd have to say it's not exactly Kaishaku's best work. At 7:02/7:03 in the Japanese version, Chikane says "an eternal night in which I conduct the symphony that is you", which, in my opinion, is one hell of an awesome quote.
Uh, this is a common misconception among the fandom, or the idiots. Be careful here. It was not a flute. It was the sheath of a tanto (Japanese dagger). And the point was to take her virginity in order to summon Ame no Murakumo, who needed the virgin blood of a priestess to be revived. In the anime, you don't see it, its only implied.
LOL although Chikane was pretty abusive to Himeko in the manga when she found out about her and that guy. She kept telling Himeko to stay away from him.
In the anime, Girochi actually tried to put the moves on her in episode 2 before Chikane got all pissed off and started brawling with him, that is before Souma intervened. In the manga there was a scene where he stalked Himeko with Makoto, and he fought Souma about it. I haven't read the manga in a while, so my memory may be foggy. In episode 7 when Miyako confronts Chikane, she toys with Chikane's psyche and in one scene it looks as if she's actually violating her when she impersonates Himeko.
Chikane resented that the gods forced her to sacrifice Himeko in order to rebuild the world after sealing Orochi. By deflowering her, Chikane took her place as the sacrifice by manipulating Orochi in order to make Himeko resentful of Chikane killing her in the past life. I don't say her actions are admirable, but if both of them can forgive one another for the eternity of joy and suffering they will have to endure together, then that should be enough. The justification for rape is in the manga.
I can't blame Chikane for how she acted. To learn that the love of your life is a girl and destined to die, to see her crying hopelessly, and to realize the only way to resolve it is to sacrifice herself, anyone would go insane. And if you think that's bad, WHAT THE HELL DOES MIYAKO DO TO HER IN THE ILLUSIONARY MIRROR REALM?!?!?! EXACTLY THE SAME THING ARAEL DOES TO ASUKA IN EVANGELION MINUS THE FACT THAT SHE IS RAPED MENTALLY AND VIOLATED BY NOT AN ANGEL, BUT A FUCKING PSYCHO NUN!!!!!!!!!!
Nah, nothing's wrong with her. It's just part of Chikane's somewhat contrived and not-so-well-thought out plan to save Himeko from being sacrificed. Keep watching and you'll see it all unfold at the end.
I didn't like manga Chikane, and I don't remember Himeko even spending that much time with Souma in the first place in the manga. Then again, I haven't read it in a while, so maybe I should read it again. Anime's better by miles, though.
chikane was trying to get himeko to hate her so that the cycle of theirs where "one must die so that the other will live" will continue... its sad really... i saw the ending... O_o
oops...my bad ^ ^ lol..... I saw the whole thing in english....i read slow,so the sub titles moved too fast * -I even saw "Kyoshiro to towa no sora"...every episode...=D
I don't appreciate you calling her a rich bitch. She says quite blatantly she resents how privileged she is, because she never has to ask for things when they are given to her, and she thinks its only another justification for everyone to think she is perfect. And she is not a snot, by any means. And Himeko loved her even before the rape scene, its just she thought that Chikane didn't feel the same and Chikane and Souma were in a relationship. Chikane becoming an Orochi was a wake up call.
Well...she does sort of become like Tsubasa is to Souma...albeit with a different purpose. But at the same time, that was indirectly Miyako's goal all along...wow, faith equals lust and this world belongs to Tsubasa-sama, interesting when you metaphysically deflowered a girl inside an illusion and put her sanity and gangst on overdrive to hell. Not even Tsubasa went that far to get his brother to join him...sick bitch. She got her desserts next episode, thank God for that.
The minute the Orochi is defeated, the gods force the priestesses to sacrifice each other in order to rebuild the world. The priestess who is sacrificed has to retain her virginity. Chikane hated herself for killing Himeko and sought to save her from damnation by becoming the sacrifice herself. In the anime, she joined the Orochi in order to give Himeko the resolve to remake the world on her own and kill her, bc she thought she was impure for being both in love with her but also killing her.
I am having an ATOMIC NOSEBLEED here!!!!! O_O
*nosebleeding more* Waaaah! Tissue! I need tissue!!!
IT CAn"t BE HER!!!
It will all be revealed why she did it in the last episode..And its quite unbelieveable

The manga's blocked on manga fox hahaha, and to get through it all you have to do is lie and say your above 18 they don't even check
omg, i wanted them to be together, but with what happened?this is messed up! for whatever honorable reason Chikane might have, this is still so wrong. Is she prepared to be hated by Himeko?
If it is without consent, then yes.
I know..i did see it.....it was too adorable for words, and setsuna was only trying to make her feel better ....=D -2 cute-*

But still, the raping was alot to take in. I mean seriously Himeko must really love Chikane to not hate her for it,ya know?
DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, COMPARE KANNAZUKI NO MIKO TO TWILIGHT!!!!!! HIMEKO IS NOT AN EMOTIONLESS SKANK AND CHIKANE IS NOT A LASCIVIOUS VAMPIRE ASSHAT!!!!! Oh, and Souma is not a werewolf pedo. Seriously, this is the second time I've seen a comparison like that.
Who over thought Chikana would be a rapist. And rape Himeko at that.
Oh I know. I've already watched the whole show. But at the time...
OOOHHH That explains everything.

@ounsreyny how is chikane rapeing himeko keeping himeko pure??
i can't believe chikane was kissing hemiko
dude when i saw this i was like h*ll yea
The japanese parts of 8 are still here.

@@_.Deitasterra Yes...
It always cracks me up to hear Rukia putting the moves on Orihime lol guess that thats care of the Bleach pairing debates. . .
Souma's "Himeko senses are tingling" xD
this was like epic O.o Chikane over did it I think
Michelle Ruff. She is awesome. She also plays Rukia in the Bleach dub. Chikane's my favorite of all of her roles though.

Ok but like, does anyone know the name of the song Chikane was playing when Himeko walked in? I need to know.

EXACTLY THE SAME THING ARAEL DOES TO ASUKA IN EVANGELION MINUS THE FACT THAT SHE IS RAPED MENTALLY AND VIOLATED BY NOT AN ANGEL, BUT A FUCKING PSYCHO NUN!!!!!!!!!!
rofl i love chikane's bad girl side
oh and NinjaPrincess person its cuz.....wait no nvm i shouldnt say anything it'll spoil it
xDDD
The feels man...
The blue eyed chick
Well, Souma and Himeko talk so highly of Chikane, and then this happens. I don't know if its irony or just strange.
she looked rich who knows what the was hiding in her room. o.O
oops...my bad ^ ^ lol.....
I saw the whole thing in english....i read slow,so the sub titles moved too fast *
-I even saw "Kyoshiro to towa no sora"...every episode...=D
God damn it himeko if i were you in that situation i'd be so freaking happy xD
watch your mouth about God disrespectful
Poor chikane.I cant believe himeko didnt notice how in love she was with her
yes chikane is by far the best character. so much strength and passion
Chikane becoming an Orochi was a wake up call.
nagulat ako na kiniss ni chikane c himeko kaso ngalang may umepal lalake ...woooooooooow
i hate this part!!!!!!nooo!!!
