Thanks so much for including A Spoiled Victory! I'm honored that it made your list. I'm actually just finishing up a deluxe, somewhat more advanced iteration of this game with Legion Wargames and it is entitled "Miracle at Dunkerque". You've got a cool list of games and thanks for doing it!
@@saltlampgaming115 Thanks! Yes, we just got an official developer for the game who is working with me on tidying it all up and an artist to do the counters. I suspect and hope it will be this summer. All the best!
I understand why people may have reservations about a game set in a modern period but 1. wargamers were playing Avalon Hill and Spi Games less than 25 years after the end of WW2 and 2. a good game should educate about its subject matter and either explore why the historical strategy and tactics used were either the best option at the time or the worst option at the time or indeed the only option
Thank you for the GREAT overview of these games. I enjoyed your description of each and you definitely made them all seem very compelling. I spend most of my gaming time playing solitaire and this added to my wish list. So, it appears that you are going to help me spend money! I'm all for more reviews, rambling or not!!!!
@@saltlampgaming115 that’s great. Thanks for the response 👍I appreciate your general insights into the world of solo war gaming and am particularly interested in the COIN series . I am looking to venture into fire in the lake some point soon. More play throughs would be great if you have time to make them as they really help newcomers to learn the rules.
Thanks for the video, enjoyable as usual. You have definitely brought some interesting games to my attention. Have you looked at Redver's Reverse? Geoffrey's game prior to Hill of Doves? Less detailed but another solo game covering an overlooked period.
Thanks for watching! I have it home, I love the concept and gameplay but, struggled with the learning experience but, will give it another go because I love the order system etc, I believe he has a new one in the works covering the whole campaign which I’m very excited for. I think it’s called Failure on the Tugela.
@@saltlampgaming115 It's certainly true that the rulebook was a tad difficult to follow. From what I can tell many people struggled to figure out what was going on, however I found that once you worked it out it played quite well. I think there are some videos of Geoffrey himself playing the game somewhere, which certainly helped me with the rules. I have heard of Failure on the Tugela and look forward to its publication. Many of these niche games are such undiscovered gems.
You have a couple by Miranda, including Foreign Legion Paratrooper which I also have, but I have his Invasion Afghanistan: The Soviet Afghan War 1979-1989. I am not impressed by either the way the game plays (impossible for the Soviet Union to win or draw) which may be accurate but poor game play and the way the rules are written. He uses many names for the same function (often not the term he uses where the rule is) which made me start to re-write the rules to be clearer. I gave that up after 1/4 of the way through the rules as I had maybe a dozen examples already. You may say that is the editor from Modern War but pretty crappy as written by the designer. Is FLP or Enduring Freedom any better? Puts a bade taste in my mouth before I even start.

My pleasure Hermann, it’s a great game. And yeah I’m very very excited for it. Can we expect it anytime soon?

I agree completely and that’s a great point about the older games! Thanks for watching :)

Have you tried "Claws of the Tiger" by White Dog Games? I would call it underrated.
