Won the lottery yesterday (Aug 7) for a $35 ticket (5th row mezzanine or dress circle). Was notified at 5PM for the 8PM show, but made it. The talent onstage is top shelf, but the biggest star are the sets and their transitions. Satine's (Karen Olivo) entrance was stunning and spectacular. Lots of mashups, but the act 2 opener , for me, was the best number. It was killer.
Was that the mashup number featuring “Sweet Dreams” by Eurythmics? If so, that number down was worth the ticket itself. The set design, energy, the blend of iconic pop bangers from recent years, and actors made me lose my mind!

God I want to see this or at least hear it.
I'm so bitter. They postponed the opening, therefore, the show I bought tickets for was postponed, and since that was the only time I could take vacation this summer, I had to just get a refund. I saw the set design today -- ugh, I am so bummed I had to miss this.

I myself was not a fan of the film, I thought it was a migraine to sit through. But with that aside, I am sort of curious to hear what those who did not like the film think of this stage adaptation.
My thoughts exactly! I'm definitely not a fan of Moulin Rouge, but I absolutely adore both Aaron Tveit and Karen Olivo. So I hope I will enjoy the adaptation :)
I have never seen the film, but I thought it was an amazing show! As Aaron said in the video, it's a really immersive experience! The stage is gorgeous, and you'll feel as if you're a Moulin Rouge patron. Sorry that I'm not exactly the demographic you were going for, ahaha. (Side note, I sat next to two die hard movie fans, and they didn't like the show, but most people seemed to enjoy it, and from what I've heard on the movie soundtrack, the singing is much better in the stage adaptation, as to be expected :0)

I am a huge fan of the movie. Also a huge fan of Aaron but I cannot see anyone but Ewan McGregor playing Christian. I don't see any chemistry at all between Aaron and Olivia and when I saw the advance video of Come what may with Aaron singing it my heart just sank. The first time I ever didn't like him singing, ever. Sorry, but this is one time they should have left well enough alone.
Aaron actually has a much better voice than Ewan, who struggles through the songs. But I get what you mean. At this point, my preference is still Ewan's rendition. I suppose it's because it's what I'm used to?
Donna Lynn I saw the show and my god was it amazing. Really, don't look down on it just because there's a new version. Also Aaron nails Come What May live, so I wouldn't worry too much.
The show itself is an amazing, immersive, very entertaining time. I wasn't impressed with the Come What May video either, but I guarantee the show will blow you away, and Aaron sounds wonderful on everything. Saw it yesterday at the matinee, and there wasn't an empty seat in the place. Matinees don't generally have as much energy as evening shows, but this performance was electric. Hope they find it a theater in NYC real soon, because the world needs more of Moulin Rouge.
Hated the video of Come What May but Aaron does it justice in the actual show. The chemistry is definitely there on stage too. I’m glad they didn’t leave it alone. I love the movie and I think this show brings it into a new era while still keeping the important bits the same.
I just saw this yesterday and agree with you. Stellar vocals but not nearly as charming. The chemistry is certainly not the same between Olivio and Tveit but the show was fun nonetheless.
I’m not a fan of the movie. I feel like this production will far surpass that! Karen and Aaron’s voices are so much better than the singers from the movie! This is made for the stage!!

This promo didn’t do any justice, trust me! And thankfully it’ll be heading to Broadway officially soon. The reception it had in Boston was INSANE

There certainly doesn't seem to be much 'chemistry' between them here.
I'm not much of a fan of Karen Olivo, so I'm not excited about her 'Satine.' She may surprise me, but in my many years of theatergoing, I usually get it right off the bat.
Aaron is the best MT actor out there riight now, trust me, he can act that chemistry

I have to agree. I saw the show earlier this week - it's absolutely amazing and I'm going back to see it again before the Boston run ends. That said, I found Aaron Tveit to be a bit 'wooden' in some of his acting (though his singing was superb). Karen Olivo, however, was absolutely outstanding. The show is lush, sexy, funny, poignant and utterly entertaining. I can't wait to see it again!
