Went on the Jack Daniel’s tour 2 weeks ago and agree it is a fantastic experience and difficult to imagine how this sleepy town can put out such a high volume and consistent product. Our guide was both funny and knowledgeable-just wish the pours at the end were larger!
Could not have been happier with this purchase, Fred. Backup achieved and hoping my local store gets more as he's talked about it. Cheers for a great review friend 👍🥃
I just picked this up and I’d be confident to say it’s in the top 5 of my 100+ bottle collection. Hope I can get a backup to relive the fresh crack experience a few years from now.
I picked up a bottle of the Jack Daniels single barrel barrel strength at 71.70% and it’s so good. Grab a bottle for me and one for my buddy. Wish I grab myself a back up. Always grab a back up haha.
Actually got a bottle of this (paid too much though). I got a lot of black liquorice on the nose and pallate, maybe a bit of mint. Definitely has the sweetness of a double barreled. Definitely agree with Fred that it's unique. Kind of think of it along the lines of Midwinternight Dram in the overall sensation it gives, though not the wine finish. I think it'll be really good in cold weather.
Agreed Fred. I think this offering reminds me of some ASW releases and their malted ryes (i.e. Resurgens or Soloist CS). I personally love this, the SBBP Rye and sure.as.heck the JD12.
Well described Fred, I am definitely with you about it being one for the patient enthusiast to explore. Going in with preconceived notions on what one might expect out of this bottle will only lead to disappointment. This is a wonderfully unique release that certainly bucks the norm with that extra long heavy toast finish. I'd love to hear what you think about my write up of the same release on my site!
Can’t speak for the other countries you mentioned, but you are definitely correct about Jack Daniel’s leading American whiskey in Australia, but I would add Wild Turkey to that list.
Will try to find it for less than $100. Just got the twice barreled from last year and paid way to much for it but they tend to bend you over in Maryland for the allocations.
As far as taking the tour, I was really disappointed. We weren't allowed to take any pictures on the inside of any production buildings or the rick houses. That was very upsetting for me because that was all that I cared about seeing and having the pictures of it. I'm a technical guy, I love seeing the process. I don't really care about the history of the brand or seeing his old office. That ruined the tour for me. I hated that I drove almost three hours for that. Hopefully they change that in the future.
Blame the risk assessment folks and lawyers. When I was there last, I was told the same. ... That said, there's a fraction of an iota of a chance that a flash could spark with the vapors in the air, per a risk assessment officer I know. But who uses flash on their phones ? i rarely see that
Been on the JD tour twice, before I was 21, loved the tour. A while back, you did about a 15 second review of their Single Malt special release and you hated it. I have to strongly disagree with that review, I loved the Twice Barreled Single Malt. I also loved the special release SiBBP rye from a few years ago. Haven't been able to get my hands on this one though.
Really excited for this! Got a bottle because I’m a big Jack fan and don’t want to miss their special releases but I’m not a rye fan (I like their SBBPR) so I’m really interested in this now with how unique you’ve made it sound. Now I just need to kick this cold that I got the day I picked it up haha
Saying you have you judge it by being a "Rye Whiskey" is total BS. It's a Rye. So stop it. Wondering what other Rye drinkers think should have no bearing on your review either.
The year of Rye for Jack Daniel's! Single Barrel Barrel Proof, Bonded, and Twice Barreled. I love it.
Indeed! The only one I've seen so far is the Bonded. Have you tried it yet?

Great review, I agree with your thoughts on it. I would say it gets even better after it's opened up a bit. Great bottle.
Man. Snagged one Tuesday for $75 and wasn’t planning on opening it any time soon. But maybe I’ll rethink that.

I cracked a bottle last weekend and finished it off in 2 days with a couple buddies, glad I have a backup, it is delicious.

I've been to Lynchburg two times. Been over 25 years now, this is when it was free. Want to go back again, by far the best distillery tour around

Just got a bottle of this. Excited to open it up near the holidays to share with some friends.

Awesome review Fred. I always look forward to seeing your take on whiskies that I am interested in.
I went from wanting to find this bottle to REALLY wanting to find this bottle. Great review, as always!
Jack Daniels is the G.O.A.T. of American distilleries - 🙌🥃 #squire for life!

Was like #2. This stuff is fantastic
Jack Daniel's is doing God's good work.

I've never been impressed with JD ryes. Hoping to get the SiB BP but probably give this one a pass.
I hate bananas thus I’m not a big jack fan so I’m intrigued. Too bad ill never see it. 😢
Thanks though Fred 👍🏼
How limited will this release be Fred?
Yes.
What kind of question is that 😂 limited = you'll never see it.
@@colear3 🙄

sounds like a twice barreled Irish whiskey
Saw it for $89 today. I passed on it trying to stay within my monthly bourbon budget.
