Raag Shyam Kalyan - Pandit Sunder Lal Gandharv

Famous flautist, Pt. Sunder Lal Gandharv was born at small village named Sahmal(H.P) on May13,1950 Pt. ji belongs to a family which has been closely associated with music since long.Pt. ji started learning music from his father Late Shri Ram Das Gandharv right from the tender age of six. He, later on came to Shimla where he met Dr. B.D. Kala, a disciple of late Raja Bhaiya Punchwale and continue taking lesson in music under his expert guidance.Later pt ji came in contactwith Pt. Vishnu Prasanna ji. Prasanna ji, a Shehnai & Flute maestro was honored with the NATIONAL AWARD in 1955 by the President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad. Today Pt. Sunder Lal Gandharv ji ranks among the top flute players of India. The flute recital by Pt. ji has been broadcast on national hook up by All India Radio . Pt. ji has been honored by a number of distinguished organisations.Some of the honours bestowed upon him are as below :
(a) In 1983, he was honoured by the then Governor of Rajsthan in Raj Bhawan.
(b) In 1985, he was awarded "Kala Shri", by (B.H.E.L.)
(c) In 1987, he was awarded "Sharda" Samman.
(d) In 2013 , bansuri legend life time achievement award.
In addition to above mentioned honors and awards, several other organisation and sammelans as Hari Ballabh Sangeet Sammelanheld in Jalandhar. Sh. Arbindo Ashram Nainital, Taal Samrat Lt. Pt.Kanthe Maharaj memorial trust Aurangabad, Andhra Pradesh Punjabi Sabha, Durgyana Mandir Amritsar .Kashi baithak sangeet sabha,delhi. I.T.P.O. Govt of delhi.Jawahar kala kendra ,jaipur.Sanskar bharti,delhihave showered honors on his dedicated service to Indian classical music.Pt. ji is an empenalled artist of Indian Council for Cultural Relation .With his untiring efforts and deep dedication Pt. ji has invented some of the latest 'Ragas' as shown below :
