  • Toni Morrison, who chronicled the African American experience in fiction over five decades, has died aged 88. The novelist was the first African American woman to win the Nobel Prize for Literature and is widely regarded as a champion for repressed minorities. Speaking on racism, Morrison said in an interview: "If you can only be tall because someone else is on their knees then you have a serious problem. And my feeling is white people have a very, very serious problem"

      Jana wendt(60mins Australia)looked shocked when asked the question,almost offended that someone could say that to her. An award winning journalist,educated who has traveled/reported/worked around the world for years,but struggles with the idea that Morrison doesn't have white people in her books? Her mindset is the precise reason why there is still racism and that white people have a long way to go before they can fix it.

    • @iago07
      @iago07 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I actually wonder if that was a question, not from the journalist, but from society. For decades, white critics criticized her lack of white characters AND refused to call her literature “American”… it was always African-American lit… so it did t seem that the journalist was upset.
      And Morrison didn’t call her racist. She said the question is racist.

    There is no race.What a joke just like are several species of bears the same are the humans.We have some distince features that make us a race

    • @001islandprincess
      @001islandprincess 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ghost All human beings have the exact same alleles (AGCT) and due to environmental pressures give rise to different frequency of genes, which in turn give rise to the various population groups we see worldwide. The continent of Africa contains the most genetic diversity than all continents combined. Some population groups in the South Pacific resemble some Africans but they are farthest away genetically from Africans. The Sentinels phenotypically resemble some South Sudanese but are genetically South Asian. Europeans are genetically the closest to Africans and indigenous Australians are the farthest genetically. The concept of “race” does NOT and CANNOT explain these facts. Race has always been a socio-political term masquerading as something inherent. The fact that you place high value on “distinct features” is proof that it is all a construct...and it’s sole purpose is for social, political and economic gain. The only reason why you “see” races is that you attach HUGH MEANING to INSIGNIFICANT features.

      Old World diversity is a construct, the human race migrated from an Africa Continent spread throughout the world. Human adapted according to climates and geographical regions. This notion of diversity is toxic is the sense that you’re different than I am, therefore should be treated as such. A superiority complex, a disease that lead to monetary gain, self righteousness to hatred. Yes were born in different continents but we are one human race. If “forced diversity” meaning some person thats different looking than you in facial characteristics and appearance; if bothers you then you have that disease.

      Terrence Myers Greetings. The people who classify themselves as “white” have been using DECEPTION as well as VIOLENCE to maintain the system for over 500 years and that system is RACISM an exploitation system to mistreat, dominate and control for the sole purpose of enriching themselves at the expense of the subordinate group. Of course there are no human races in nature but they were brought into existence by imperial conquest. The original white supremacists (aka Western European enslavers) invented human races to rationalize their crimes against humanity. It is easy to oppress a group of people for centuries when you convince yourself they are not really human, a “humanoid”, a “thing” fit for mistreatment, domination and control.

    "The racist white person"?? What about the racist black person?? Guess she didn't want to acknowledge that.
    And why did she have the title of "Reverend"?

    Morrison says there is no such thing as race and then says. "White people have a very very serious problem." This is a contradiction. Why doesn't Morrison acknowledge that her surname is found in England, Scotland and Ireland? Morrison is a mixture of black and white.

      John Deagle You're an imbecile. Most black Americans have white last names due to slavery. We didn't choose those white last names. They were forcefully given to us by white slave masters.
