I’ve discovered the reason for Porsche’s high production costs. Whenever I watch videos of their assembly plants, the workers are never seen assembling the cars. They’re just lovingly caressing them with a soft white cloth. That won’t get them built. 😂

I remember how back in the 1960's (and before) everyone in the USA wanted a Cadillac. Then they cheapened the product, lost sight of the market, faced increased competition from the Europeans, and had their lunch eaten. Now they have barely any market share.

Let's just look at the New Macan. In Australia, the top versions cost over $200,000 and they don't even include a heads-up display as standard..!! EVERYTHING is an option and EXPENSIVE. I heard on CarWow that in the UK even the rear side-impact airbags are an option.!
ARE THEY KIDDING.??? This is ARROGANCE as an Artform, and the Germans are in the process of paying for it, because it's time it was called out for what it is.

911 is only about 20-25% of their sales. It’s far more than the Taycan that’s struggling.

First of all, .... the unions do not own the company. If the company needs to close factories, that's their right to do so. If they wish to build new factories in Mexico, that's their right to do so. If they tell the workers that in order for the company to stay in business all workers must take a 10% pay cut. The workers have a choice, they can work at the new pay scale or find a new job. I have no sympathy for the unions, especially when they think they control the company, ...... they are "employees", not owners.

While Porsche has never been cheap the requirement of X amount of options on a car, particularly 911s on already inflated prices is insane. Artificially making GT cars scarce so you have people fighting over allocations has cause buyers with actual cash to go elsewhere. Leaving speculation to run rampant

If I was in a position to buy a Taycan, I wouldn't hesitate personally. The way I see it the whole selling point of their brand is to continually refine their products and the best example of that was the recent refresh that improved range, performance (charging and acceleration) and slightly reduced weight. If all people wanted in life was the best bang for their buck then Coles and Woolworth's would go out of business as everyone would shop at Aldi and Cosco or in this case just buy a base Tesla Model 3 or Y and call it a day.

It's part negotiating tactic with unions and market realisation re China. Porsche will need to right size. But it's advantages in style and driving ability are strong. They just need to price their EV same as their ICE rather than with a premium.

  • @ksorsomeplace
    @ksorsomeplace ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +3

How do you know the competition is actually better. Yes, Porsche has a high price, but they have a history whereas the Chinese brands don't (not to say this is worth excessive add to the price, but it is something). I've also read (no actual experience) that Chinese build quality is not that great in cases. I can give an example of this: I compared a Volvo S90 to a Mercedes-Benz E350. The assembly quality is noticeably better for the Mercedes-Benz and the price doesn't vary that much between them.

Perhaps a couple of Taycans etc... Then we'll possibly put you on "The List" which says that you may get an allocation some day in the future. if you don't kiss our butt buy buying many cars... forget your dream car. Any company like that... they can shut down. I'll be happy. Tesla. Anyone can go and get a Model S Plaid, get the upgraded package and have one of the fastest cars in the world. ANYONE who can pay, will get one. No kissing Butt !! Porsche make nice cars but I will not support a company like that. Goodbye Porsche! I won't miss you.

Taking the long view, it is hard to avoid the impression that we are going through a similar event to the switch between horse and cart and the automobile. The legacy auto makers now are analogous to the cart makers at the turn of the century circa 1900 and the new EV makers to the auto makers of that same period.

In order for these battery Cars to be zero emissions, that would require a big exhaust pipe to extend up from places like Africa, to outside Earth's atmosphere. That because very large equipment, running on diesel and gasoline are used to move 100s of thousands of tons of earth to make these batteries. By any chance, is this "Tube" thingie, that Musk developed, the needed tailpipe to make this whole production zero emissions? Just askin'

This video has made me realise that Porsche cannot survive the EV revolution. Their main appeal is the magnificent engine that the wealthy are prepared to pay big time for. Put an electric motor in it and there goes its main selling point. Now that overall fit, finish and general body quality can be matched by the Chinese makes, what is left that Porsche can use to make their cars appealing?

There is an issue with borrowing and debt the second is bench marking their product at premium prices against the upper end of Tesla cars as the base. Tesla has been selling ordinary cars post early adopters paying premium their cars in Europe and USA with subsidies from the government in protected markets. Porche will see themselves as selling their cars for the most basic models at a 20% mark up to Tesla and their own petrol car but the expectations of the customer is a slight price increase from the petrol car not a $20000 price differential. So what would all the European car companies and Tesla do : lobby their government, use fear of a jobs meltdown, encourage protectionist policies like tariffs, ask for more subsidies and bail outs, ask for the government to mandates for ev use to change, try and introduce hybrids as a stopgap . Then use dirty tricks no one attack the quality of Chinese’s cars, steal technology from the Chinese manufacturers, lie about their products such as performance and quality which they have done before. For the owners while that is going on continue to pay themselves dividends and bonuses award themselves loans etc and write them off as bad debts and commit fraud by hiding losses through false accounting and internal transfers . Book paper profits on revaluation of assets then retire. Then there is good old bribery band corruption all politicians are for sale through lobbying and overseas bank accounts. These people have not developed new markets and models for the rest of the world and are in full retreat. Germany is really going to be bad due to the cost of energy. Btw America has trump and Elon musk has his ear and I expect musk will opportunistically seek the destruction of legacy car makers. But I am guessing that all car makers have grenades of undiscovered debt in their balance sheets

Por-sha is the German pronunciation. In the US (and apparently in Australia) we say Posh. Love you podcast.

It is definitely not correct to end it with an 'a'.

Why buy a 911 for performance when a Tesla Plaid can smoke it 0-60? Why buy a Panamera or Cayenne when a Tesla Model X or Rivian can annialate those as well 0-60? Porsche is in trouble.

It's fascinating watching how battery tech has improved over the years along with charging tech and time. Lithium batteries were first used in 1991 and look how much better they are today, a mere 45 years later.

Here in the US I've always heard Porsche pronounced Porsch. Also, I recently learned that Hyundai is properly pronounced just like Sunday with an H like Hunday.
