Yeah, the main issue right now is that we can't really edit meshes yet, so suit appearance mods are all just retextures. When Bethesda releases the official modding tools (or when Nifskope updates to support Starfield, which will likely happen much sooner), I bet we'll start to see loads of accurately-modeled armor from all sorts of other Sci-Fi universes. The stormtrooper mod is the one exception I know of and the modder hasn't released any info on how they imported the mesh other than saying something about a custom importer.
The madalorian and boba fett armor retexture looks good but it’s not accurate to Star Wars I’ll wait for a custom one not using the original in game assets
So annoying seeing people trying to turn another space game into Star Wars... if you want to play Star Wars, play a Star Wars game (there are dozens), stop trying to make every space game into Star Wars.

The refurnish ship mod will ve good try try on a Starborn Guardian.
