I see Coral Q as the Mamodo that's decent in a fight as he is. Like someone said, he's the bridge that leads to the next level in the Battles. By that point, only the decently strong and the luckiest set of teams should still be around.
I wish Kiyo and Zatch could have made friends with Coral Q and Gurabu, mostly because both Kiyo and Gurabu went through the same experience of having a hard time making friends and were isolated from everyone else because of their high IQs. They would have made some pretty powerful allies to have against Faudo.
