As I have mentioned on a previous video, I met your Dad on one occasion many years ago when he presented his view on what high reliability looks like. I have never forgotten that meeting and the inspirational way your father spoke about machinery in general, he inspired me to be the valued "hands on" Engineer I am now, thank you Larry. So glad the "acorn didn't fall far from the tree", good on ya Jack, great video as usual.
Cheers!!
You always forget the extended life these cars had in other's hands and the changes made. Restoration is an art form, and it's a credit to those who undertake these projects. I've been looking at a Group C car, but the work needed to get it back is going to be massive. Great video as always.
Cheers!
No Jack, thank you for your time. It makes many many hours to make these videos, we saw only 11 minutes and 11 seconds of educational documentary entertainment ( from you) & unique dedication of ingenuity, talent and craftsmanship from your gifted father Larry
Cheers!
Do you think 11minutes 11seconds was a happy accident, or attention to detail? 😂
100%, I enjoy watching the videos about these old cars more than watching the racing, nowadays
It's amazing how loved these old offices are to those who knew them in their heyday
Cheers!
Love the photo record to help verify. The meticulous approach to building and maintaining the cars helps explain why they rarely failed.
Absolutely! Cheers!
Fastest v8 at Bathurst in 1992 quali too , obviously . But what a feat over the factory teams in newer body styles ect. Beautiful resto by the looks
That's it! Cheers!
The owner and yourself have done an amazing job on the restoration! The car looks stunning! What a cool car to own!
We agree! Cheers!
I remember being there in 92 at Bathurst and there was a big fanfare about it being on the front row. I’m pretty sure they were handing out brochures or something at the time to celebrate it, I’m sure I still have it
Yes it was a cool moment! Cheers!
Hey Jack, That was Fantastic. Photo's & Blue Prints prove. Well done Mate to keep another Car/ Australian Motor Sport History Alive. Lightning Larakin Larry.
Glad you enjoyed it, Cheers!
Awesome car, and thanks for the brief history lesson for those of us who where just a little too young to remember all the details ( I was just getting a interest in motorsport in those early 90's as a kid)
Glad you enjoyed it, Cheers!
Simply amazing , credit to all involved , thankyou Jack you make our day with theses videos.
Cheers
Glad you enjoyed it, Cheers!
Really nice to see another car in the mix, I was only a year old when the VL road car started production 😂
Go get em in the enduros with JC and Snowy River
Thanks!!!
Another great vid Jack, thanks. And can't wait for the start up episode. Actualy, who doesen't love an engine run up of any PE engine/car!
Cheers!
Pity your shirt has a ford badge on it. 😂😂😂
Just picking on you!
Another great video, love the older cars. Thanks Jack. The car is beautiful.
Hahaha the irony is, after this car stuck it on the front row at Bathurst, there was a Ford badge placed on it for a laugh!!! Cheers!
Thanks Jack. Looks like you’ve set me another Forza livery project there!
Go for it! Cheers!
These videos just keep getting better, thanks Jack
Glad you like them! Cheers!
Would love to see it up on a hoist and check out what a race car of this vintage looks like from underneath
Yes we may just do that! Cheers!
Love to see these cars from my childhood.
Cool memories!!! Cheers!
Great work, Jack. Always interesting 👍
Thanks! 👍
Thanks Jack, it’s good to see a V8 VL to show the kids why a Nissan 6 cyl VL couldn’t win at Bathurst! against a Sierra or a rattly Skyline lol
Always appreciate your videos mate, many thanks!
Take care
💩
But a vl did beat the skyline gtrs in 1990 and the earlier carby vl group a win against sierras in 87.
Glad you enjoyed it, Cheers!
My personal favourite PE chassis. Looking forward to the future updates on this weapon!
Cheers!
I would prefer if you had a separate channel for caravan reviews ! Love your work on the restorations , history has to be preserved ,
Kit from up north
We are stoked Snowy River have jumped on and they also like PE so we can share the love no dramas. Cheers!
❤Jack Rembrandt of this love how you do this !! Larry involved I hope 🤞 ❤😊
Cheers!
Thankyou Jack, love these video`s and especially the detail footage. Gives me so many great ideas for my own cars.
Glad you like them! Cheers!
Love it, so awesome to see.
Glad you enjoyed it! Cheers!
The best and quickest VL
That's it! Cheers!
Hey Jack,Another true classic V8 Commodore,Love the stance on the VL,So this VL isnt LP,s own car ? Somebody else owns it ? How many V8 supercars does LP actually own ? + once again, thankyou Jack for bringing us the fans the you tube vids on these great cars,Love it,Cheers
Yes the cars in the shop are generally all customer cars, owned privately. That's how he business works!
The fact it was the oldest car at 92 Bathurst and faster than the newer Commodores says alot as well.
Does indeed! Cheers!
There is no doubt THE VL was a very good car and there it is. Wow. My memories are of it in white with Larry showing them how to do it.
Must admit i had a bit of a laugh when i saw 'is don... is good' on the windscreen after don watson had a bingle in it at the GP 😂
Iconic branding. Cheers!
I recreated this car on Forza Motorsport about 5 years ago for fun. Obviously couldn’t get nearly to the correct details like IRL, but it was a great challenge to get the livery as close as possible!
Nice work!
Car looks fantastic. Did they really look that good when they were new?
Yes but they weren't new for long! Cheers!
Bloody good shit I always wondered what happened to this car it was one of my favourites of all time nobody got the walkinshaw around Bathurst quicker than Larry if it didn't rain in 1992 he would have won that race no question about it the Sierra would have blown turbo and the Nissan would have broke cause Larry would have pushed this car very hard all day.the Nissan in 1992 spec was a much slower car and heavier and Larry out quilified it as well.great video jack I enjoyed it very much thankyou.
Cheers!
That's an awesome car 💥
Cheers!
The best PE car 👍👍
Cheers!
Probably my favourite car ever and the car that made me a Larry fan, I used to love seeing Larry race this against the VNs and beating them and from memory didn’t it cop a some sort of penalty to halt its competitiveness? What makes it more special for me is we also had a VL Walkinshaw in the family and I really regret not buying one for myself in my early twenties especially when you could pick them up for a little over $20,000 back then!
I thought these ran the twin throttle bodies hence why the road car had to have them, did regs change at some point for the VL?
Looking forward to seeing more of this and hearing it run for sure 👍
Slide manifold is LP magic
Thunk there was allowances made from CAMS to allow the car in 1992 run the 1991 engine spec if that makes sense. Cheers!
@@perkinsengineeringHey Jack, were the 1991 Mobil VN's slide engines? Cheers
Really wish you could do an episode about those trick header's your old man used to make...
Which ones!? Cheers!
@perkinsengineering not sure if they were equal length or a 180 style of arrangement, but they were fitted on the jack daniels car.
I saw this car race at Bathurst in '92. I was 10 years old🙂
I was there also, age 6! Cheers!
I remember at the time that the car was heavily gone over by the scrutineers after qualifying. Don’t think they could believe the time and position it achieved lol. I would love to hear the back story of why Larry chose to go back to the VL rather than running a VN. I’ve heard the stories but it’s always good to get it from the horses mouth.
The VL had better aero than the VN, more rear down force.
Yeah more aerodynamic assistance and that then aided where the rest of the car setup was at, in terms of roll bars, shockers, springs, tyres etc.
It would be great to see this car at calder park going around the track when do you think it would be
Not sure yet, weather this time of year not ideal!!!!! Keep and eye on our Facebook page! Cheers!
I did Dutton GP rally with a mate years ago- RX7 FC turbo. CRANE CAMS sitcker as a sponsor on the front screen - half the people got it....
Nice! Cheers!
cool mate
Cheers!
Intersting Spec? I was always unde the impression the VL's in V8 supercars ran to Group A spec engine wise.
Nice Resto
Always came under CAMS rules and they allowed the slide throttle as per previous year with VN. Cheers!
Thanks for the vid Jack 👍 Love all the little details. I would buy one of those Snowy River caravans off you but not that dodgy Courtney character . He’s too Hollywood 😀
Hahaha he's ok mate!!!! Cheers!
Did Perkins Engineering have anything to do with dohc 3 valve V8 prototype... Would have been interesting in HSV 355 spec to compete with LS...
I don't believe so.... Nothing in our Engine Records anyway.
@@perkinsengineering must have been internal Holden thing before they opted for LS...
Amazing car.
I’m wondering why was it decided to run it as a wet sump over a dry sump?
My recollection is dry sumping was not allowed.
The rules didn't permit dry sump.
Correct
Another ripper Jacko,
I’ve always been curious that why did LP decided to return to the VL in 1992 rather than build a (then current spec) VN of his own?
Thanks, it's because the VL was a better car, VN had no aero!
Did this vl run in early 93 atcc in the full castrol livery? Might have been before the vp was ready??
I reckon it did. There's a good pic in the 1993 The Great Race book with its front air dam smashed at Amaroo Park.
Correct! First full Castrol car before the VP came online April 1993. Cheers!
Yes indeed
@@perkinsengineering Is this the car that fell over at Simmons Plains then Jack?
@@l1a146That was my next question, haha I would have been about 7 or 8yo remember Larry spitting dirt after he got out,I thought he was invincible. Anyone have the footage?
Jack Perkins ,Who's Be Making a 1/28 Diecast Model of this Weapon ???
No idea, whoever it is wouldn't give us a royalty so there's no point getting involved....
1/18 Scale of this Weapon ❤❤❤❤🎉😂
What a beautiful car..VL shape is so good looking. And that engine porn! 😍
Great looking car isn't it! Cheers!
2:44 for skipping the caravan.
Should watch the whole video!
Looks like there is a rave going on in the caravan while showing the car 😂
Think it's just how the lights look through the camera, definitely no raves that i was aware of!! Cheers!
Caravan I don’t get all the do is hold everone up behind em
Pretty cool way to travel really!! Cheers!
i miss group A....please cams bring it back....V8 supercars has run its course...time for a change
We don't miss Group A!!!! 5 litre Holden's versus turbo charged Ford Sierras versus 4WD Nissans!
@@perkinsengineering ah well i havent followed it in the last 10 yrs sorry...iam sure others feel the same...just remember your dad was a privateer....no chance for privateers in this category today...hope hes doing well...he built some fine racecars
What's yr Sister up These Days ,Nothing is ever Mention of her in videos ect or yr mum , - Cheers 🤙😂😎
They're both doing great, all have our own family now, children and grand kids!
