I have made an upgraded version of this Pellet Catcher with reinforced back for those more powerful air guns. Here is the link to watch that video th-cam.com/video/Z-iMFSJ9n7k/w-d-xo.html
Why stop at one measure? Triple-proof it with: 1. A steel plate screwed into the rear. 2. An angled back-wall to direct the bb down. 3. A mess of rags to steal their momentum.
Hi, the box needs to be filled in with some rags or old towels, that's what's stopping the pellets. But yes this box is for the less powerful pellet guns.
@@CasualDIY The very best filler for the box is recycled landscaping rubber made from old tires. Stops anything, QUIET, & LASTS FOREVER... Comes in 2 colors from Home Depot. Under $5 or $6
Nice shop you have for such projects. Some years ago in an apartment I used a 12" cube double corrugated cardboard box filled with alternating layers of foam rubber, phone books, and folded newspapers. The targets were taped to the front flaps. At about 4 yards the pellet coming out of the muzzle at 1200-1300 fps were stopped less than halfway through. Not nearly as nice as yours, but it worked, and was free. I gave your video a thumbs up. Well done on your box.
Holy Crap! Seeing this guys wood shop just caused my Wee Willy Winky To Get Shrinky, like a Frightened Turtle in a Hurricane!! Good Stuff!! With high powered PCP'S I would recommend recycled rubber tire mulch (as filler) with a metal backstop. The lead will fall to bottom for collection/recycling. Great Job! I have shop envy!!!
A few tools used there that most of us don't have, still a few screws glue and were there! steel plate needed to stop pellets or some sort of rubber hangers
Yeah that's why you would use tightly packed bits of blanket or something or even lumps of duct seal, if your rifle is 12 ft lb it won't be getting through
Nice job! I built mine before I saw your video, very similar in design and size, but you do not have to use a clipboard. Just slide the target down the slots that you made for the clipboard. I use 8.5x11 cardstock to print my targets, if you do not have cardstock, use thin cardboard as a target backer. Towels or rags may be ok to stop the pellet at Sub 12 ft lbs. but I used Duct Seal in mine and it stops 26 gr. slugs at over 900 ft per sec. out of my FX Impact.
Hmm my airgun punch straight through 1.5 inch of plywood. pretty sure it will come out on the backside of that box. maybe add a slap of 1/4 inch metal plate. and a that carpet in front one the metal back-stop to contain the pellets in the box.
Just love the way you did a decent job on this box design pellet trap. Once found a good sized clipboard, then you are ready go and do a decent pellet trap around it. I've bought clipboards myself also for my airgunning.😁 Mostly done my traps out of sheet metal though - but none with this box design.
Nice job on the woodwork but it needed finishing off inside as most modern sub 12 ft lb air rifles would go straight through that back panel in no time what so ever
I brought and old tall boy chest of draws. put some shelfs in. filled up some pillow cases with sand. Put a rail and some bull dog chips on. Away you go
U can also do this with cardboard but with a little differently. Cut the boards out to the size u want, make the top one a little shorter, and cit a square out of the front. Use some paper clips to hold the paper on. Put a towel or piece of wood on the back side to stop the rounds
Has anyone created this box using Imperial (inch) measurements? I tried using a metric converter (cm to inch) and the conversation dimensions for this box turns out to be wonky and not square. TIA.
hi i'm Dutch so no fire arms for me.. but if i would use this with my pellet rifle.. i would need to put it far far away... i shoot in my garden at about 15 meters (49' 2.5") but that thin wouldn't stop one pellet.. Gamo Black knight IGT Mach1 but it looks pretty good for little pistols :-D
Hi, this is designed for weaker pellet riffles. How to use is is you need to fill the box with old rags or towels and they stop the pellets and not the box itself 👍
If you use wad cutters and put a piece of bed sheet in box or any pellet really and a sheet piece hanging from top only and lose on sides and bottom you can re use the pellet cuse paper doesn't disform the pellets and the sheet catches them.before they hit the back of boxes wood and deform them that's what I did and havnt needed to be a single pack of competition pellets in last 6 months and they still hold same acuracy. Because the pellets you use for airgun 10 meter Olympic style are very expensive 90 dollars for a pack of 200
Twisted Boards thanks but I can't claim the glory for the design, one of my friends asked me to make this for him. Before that never knew something like this existed ;)

I was just thinking of building something similar for my yard but I want to build a bigger version of this. I'm talking like the boards you used but around6 feet tall from the ground up so I can set up a small table in front of it and line it up with cans and water bottles to shoot at and have the boards behind them to catch the BB's and Pellets. I have a variety of different Pistols and Rifles including a DPMS SBR Fully Auto BB Rifle and a Steel Storm that's also Fully Auto like an UZI. When I got them spraying BB's at cans and bottles I'll need something wide behind the targets to catch everything while I'm pretending I'm Rambo lol. ;)
This box is for a standard air rifle, you full the box with rags, old towels etc. and you can have some fun. But of your gun is so powerful then I would recomend a shooting range for safety reasons 👍
@@CasualDIY I just made this with hand tools , didn't take long, just don't go making it huge unless you got some arms. I did mine maybe 50% bigger than this in just a couple hours with hand tools. If you are not so good in arm strength and endurance I recommend sticking to the size shown in video. Hand sawing and hand screwing is a work out, but we'll worth it for the chance to practice my accuracy
that doesnt do anything more than shooting at a piece of wood will do. 0:22 thats just dumb. make it out of metal and shits gonna be bounce back out of there destroying your target and making the idea of the box useless.

Nope... not safe. Today’s pellet guns will punch right through that, especially after several shots at the bullseye. You have to add a system of angled steel baffles, or several layers of heavy carpet to catch the pellets.

I envy people that have so many tools and skills to build everything they want.
It's a hobby and a passion :)
Granted, all you need for this build, is a saw, a hammer&nails/Screwdriver&screws.
No one is stopping you.
Trust me it’s even worse when you have all the skills but don’t have any of the tools😤
Its all about sacrifice. If that's what you want you have to give up the things that are stopping you.
filling the box with rubber mulch made from used tires works great to stop the pellets, even for HPA PCP rifles
That's a very cool tip. Thank you :)
Rubber mulch at Home Depot is by far the best I’ve used in years of shooting and it never wears out 😁🕺

At 50 yards my pellet gun will go through 1" plywood. For a real pellet trap use 1/4" steel plate.
Hi, the box needs to be filled in with some rags or old towels, that's what's stopping the pellets. But yes this box is for the less powerful pellet guns.
put a old phone book or two in there (if you can find them) that should stop the pellet unless its hauling some serious ass
...or just put duct seal in the back and coat the interior of the box with 1/2" cellulose foam or similar
@@TennesseeBass849 yup.
I used to use a few old magazines to trap pellets.
