  • Polish song to celebrate Birthday & Name's Day: "STO-100 LAT!"
("ONE HUNDRED-100 YEARS OF GOOD LUCK & JOY!")
    Hundred years, hundred years...
May you live a hundred years!
    Hundred years, hundred years...
    May you live amongst us!
    Once again and again...
May you live amongst us! (x2)
May your lucky star always shine bright...
May your luck never run out! (x2)
May the roar of thunder frighten those who...
won't join us in raising a toast to you! (x2)
    Hundred years, hundred years...
May you live a hundred years! (x2)
In good health, with good luck and prosperity...
May you live a hundred years!

It's my 22nd birthday today. My great babcia sung this every birthday to me and my brothers. May my great babcia rest in peace. Her matka brought our family to the states , my great babcia died when I was 17, our blood runs thick! I love you ! 4th generation and proud!

My mother would do the same...for our birthdays at home and I continue to continue the "tradition" in her memory...Her father/"Jagj...immigrated to the U.S.A. from Poland ..He passed away (throat cancer) when my mother was 16...but our Buscia (her mother) American Polish was awesome..and they are presently/forever remembered in our heart and memories!

My Babcia used to sing this to me when I was in the single digits of my life back in the late 60s/early 70s. Now, I'm well into the double digits and my Babcia is long gone, but I still remember the words to this song. I listen to it on TH-cam occasionally, just to be certain I still have it correct in my mind.

It’s after midnight on feb 25th and I’m missing my Babcia so much and it’s her Birthday. This is the song she always sang to me on my birthday and I decided to look it up just to hear the familiar accent and song makes me feel closer to her right now. I never learned Polish even though I grew up living with her and she spoke it fluently often to her friends and family but I do know this song by heart. I’m wishing I learned more while she was here, the language, recipes she often cooked and all of her memories from Poland.

Honestly same bro although I speak and understand polish I would still want my Babcia to be here and teach me more songs she sang when she was younger

We've got that sorted! There is an extra verse and we often sing it: "Sto lat to za mało, sto lat to za mało, sto pięćdziesiąt by się zdało". And additional one: "Sto pięćdziesiąt mało, całe dwieście by się zdało"... 😉

Do not sing the second half to children!! I learned today that is for singing about vodka before drinking alcohol... sang it to a 7 year old :')
