I never see anyone derive these systems with an actual physical system. In other word an 'actual' piece of equipment with some sort of sensor on the end of equipment relating the mathematical theory output to actual.
Solve an electrical circuit, use the transfer function to solve for time at a particular vout, you'll find if you convert the transfer function to the time domain you can predict for example, how long will it take for your desired Vout to reach 2.5V with a step input of 6V. You can simulate circuits online and see the math does check out for these real world systems Sorry for the bad explanation but hope this helps

is there a separate equation on gears with belts ?
instead of gear teeth, go with gear radius for belt system the rest is explained very well here.
