- This was the year after Bill Elliot set all kinds of records on the super speedways. I found it in some old VHS tapes I'm converting to digital. Sorry the audio is a little low.

I miss the 80's.
I always loved this commercial, of course being filmed in the 80's during the hey day of nascar,didn't hurt either.

I remember back when Bill Elliot was winning all those races somebody asked Darrell Waltrip if he thought Elliot was cheating. DW said, "Boy I hope so! If he isn't, we're in trouble!!"

In the mid 80's Earnhardt did some IMSA racing (24 hours o Daytona, 12 hours of Sebring) as part of one of the teams. It may be a clip from one of those.
The woman is likely Lyn St. James, who also did some IMSA racing in a Mustang. Noteworthy is that I pulled this commercial from a show about Lyn St. James that was aired before the Winston Cup race (can't remember whether it was on ESPN on WTBS)

@doodad1 Couldn't agree more ! This is the first real car commercial I can remember that even mentioned racing. I was a Tim Richmond fan but also liked Bill. That T-bird sure was a fast car and Ford's jingle on their commercial was great! It's time for NASCAR to bring back the true days of stock car racing. By the way where's WINSTON?

There was a similar Ford Racing Commercial in 1987 and 1988. Those were great days. I don't feel the same excitement watching racing today.

The Ford GTP was a dud, unfortunately, much like the Mustang GTP before it. But, I remember this commercial! Loved it, too!

Re: Earnhardt in a Ford: he's talked about that in January. His car died and Bobby Hamilton Sr. had a car he was trying to sell for awhile, so he asked Dale Jr. to run it & after the race Hamilton Sr was able to sell the car. it had #43 and Dale Jr put duct tape over the #4 when he said that? I remembered seeing the car!
@sir945 Bill Elliot is still racing part time on the Sprint Cup circuit. - drivng the #21 for the Wood Brothers. Don't know what has happened to Bob Glidden.
Car crash, he has a great charity, he's disabled but keeps active, Bob Glidden is an American icon!
@sir945 Ford does pretty good in motorsports for what they got. They don't put the money in Nascar like GM does. Roush is the only thing Ford has got in Nascar. Where as GM has Hendrick and Childress. Hey they've won 3 out of the last 4 Daytona 500s.

yeah the Thunderbird was cool so was the Mustang...even though the Mustang is still being made... I have a book about the Mustang...good huh???......wish Ford still had that slogan Have you driven a Ford lately????...I like NASCAR some but my mom don't...I don't know why it's fun....is Bill Elliott still racing???...I can't remember
all racing foans who care about sportscar racing know about the domination at le manns from 66 to 69 but did you that ford would capture one more win at le mans in 1975 the drivers were jacky ickx and derek bell

+matt zeni I had forgotten about that, but you are correct. I Googled it and he raced the Rolex 24 hours at Daytona three times. He had one DNF for the BMW team and then completed two races as part of Rousch teams in GT Mustangs
