ഡെൻമാർക്ക് രാജാവിൻറെ ഏക മകനായിരുന്നു ഹാംലെറ്റ്. തൻറെ മാതാവിനെയും പിതാവിനെയും ജീവനുതുല്യം സ്നേഹിച്ചിരുന്ന അവന് ഒരു കാമുകിയും കൂടി ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു, അവനേറ്റം പ്രിയപ്പെട്ടവളായി.
രാജാവിൻറെ ചേമ്പർലൈൻ ആയിരുന്ന പൊളോണിയസിൻറെ മകളായ ഒഫേലിയ ആയിരുന്നു ആ സുന്ദരി.
വിറ്റൻബർഗിൽ യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി പഠനത്തിൽ മുഴുകിയിരിക്കുമ്പോഴാണ് അവൻറെ പിതാവിൻറെ മരണവാർത്ത അവനെത്തേടിയെത്തിയത്.
ഒരു സർപ്പം രാജാവിനെ കടിച്ചു എന്നും രാജാവ് മരണപ്പെട്ടു എന്നും
അറിഞ്ഞ ഹാംലെറ്റ് ഹൃദയഭാരത്തോടെ തിരക്കിട്ട് വീട്ടിലേക്കു തിരിച്ചു.
തൻറെ പിതാവിനെ അകമഴിഞ്ഞ് അത്രയേറെ സ്നേഹിച്ചിരുന്ന അവന് രാജ്ഞിയായ തൻറെ മാതാവ് പിതാവ് മരിച്ചിട്ട് ഒരു മാസം പോലും തികയുന്നതിനു മുൻപ് പിതാവിൻറെ സഹോദരനെ വിവാഹം കഴിക്കാൻ തീരുമാനിച്ചത് സഹിക്കാനായില്ല.
അമ്മയും പിതൃസഹോദരനും തമ്മിലുള്ള വിവാഹാവസരത്തിൽ പോലും അവൻറെ വിലാപവസ്ത്രങ്ങൾ മാറ്റി വയ്ക്കുവാൻ അവൻ തയ്യാറായില്ല.

'He' തർജമ ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ സന്ദർഭം അനുസരിച്ചു ' അവൻ 'എന്നോ 'അദ്ദേഹം ' എന്നോ ആവാം. ഇവിടെ അച്ഛനെ 'അവൻ ' എന്ന് പരാമർശിക്കുന്നു.'അദ്ദേഹം " എന്ന് ആവണം. ദയവുചെയ്ത് ഇനിയെങ്കിലും ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചാൽ കൊള്ളാം.
