    I bought my BBC model B machine back in 1986 when I first started my own business. Also bought 2 double-sided, 5.25 inch floppy disk drives (a stunning 360 KB storage per side in those days) and an Epson wide carriage, dot-matrix printer. I was in heaven for a while, but what a din in terms of noise.
    Thanks for this video, took me back to better days.

    Nice video, and a lovely example of a Model B!

    My dad bought a beeb back in about 1982 , it's as old as I am and still works! The card full of games would have been very impressive back in the day😎❤️👍

    My brother bought mine for me, when he worked at Laskys. Think it was around the £400 mark with vdu bundled. A step up from my Sinclair ZX81. I wish I had kept them both. PCs are soulless boxes in comparison. Lol

    I have a BBC here in the US. I use a RGB to SCART cable from EBAY, and a SCART to HDMI Video Converter Box from Amazon to display video from the Beeb on a modern TV.

    One thing about Acorn was that they sparred no expense in terms of features, they made their machines TOO good.

      I wish I had a BBC at home when I was a kid they were really cool. But I learned a lot from Sinclair computers. They were built to a price but they got so many people into computers.

    Doesn't holding Shift and pressing Break do the same thing as *EXEC !BOOT? Or does that only work on floppy disks?

    A bit more detail about the VGA mod would be helpful. How you have wired it up, how you have provided power, etc.

    I had the TurboMMC for my Beeb before rplacing it with a Gotek. I must have bought the same one as you, the handwriting on the ROM looks the same :)
    Have a look at the PiTube Direct, that's fun to play with too.

      PiTube direct looks very cool. Interested to see the $4 Raspberry Pi Pico. Someone created a BBC Model B emulator already running on it. I suspect it’s going to end up in a BBC Micro as a co-processor at some point ! :-)

      @@robingrosset6941 I'm just waiting for someone to interface the Model B's keyboard to the Pico. Could easily fit a Pico and a VGA interface on the Model B's keyboard circuit board.

    a 65F02 FPGA 6502 might let you run those games that seem to take forever to run.

    You can tell used other machines in the past because you use GOTO. I would have done. REPEAT:PRINT”Hello World!”:UNTIL FALSE. Also you can shorten the commands using . so would have typed REP.:P.”Hello World!”:U.0. I still have my Beeb from 1982. Mine has a memory extension and sideways ROM, a WD1770 controller, and MMC board and RGB to HDMI using a PI Zero both built by me.

    Hi Rob
    I live in the UK and have just ordered a CGA to VGA adapter from ebay. Do you have any clearer pictures on how you hooked this up to the BBC Micro. Also the online documentation doesn't seem to be specific on power source. Did you use 12 or 5V power from the BBC to do this. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Gary

    • @robingrosset6941
      @robingrosset6941  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will see if I can post a picture of it. Basically there is a 6 pin RGB din connector on the back of the BBC Micro and it has Red, Green, Blue, Sync and Ground, also it has 5v which can be useful. basically wire these directly to the RGBS inputs and that’s it.. You can wire to 5v or 12v lines both should work. I think I used 12v in my case directly from the PSU.

      Hi Rob just a quick question. Did you have to make any mods to the unit to get it to work with the BBC Micro or were you able to configure it just using the menu system?

    • @robingrosset6941
      @robingrosset6941  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'd forgotten how expensive they were. Now a Raspberry Pi is a tenth of the price (ignoring 40 years inflation!) with a thousand times the capability!
