    This was very helpful. Many thanks. The left rear light was spot on.
    I had a bit of trouble in connecting the rear right light based on the connection in the diagram you provided.
    Here is the connection I made and worked based on many trial and error stints.
    1. Black and Green - indicator light went straight to black and green wire on new unit. This was on middle right three pin row per your diagram.
    2. Brown - earth - went to brown wire on new unit. This was on the top right three pin row per your diagram.
    3. Grey/Red - LED - went to the bottom left three pin row per your diagram.
    4. Blank pin was middle left three pin row per your diagram.
    5. White - for two two bulbs spliced - went to top left three pin row as well as bottom right three pin row per your diagram.
    Of course the advice to keep checking whether the lights are on or off was helpful as I was able to isolate the problem after repeated checks on this video!
    Thumbs up, as I said before this was of much help.

      Thanks Wachira. I followed the wiring on the video and it didn’t work. I tried swapping the lights around as I thought the rear tail light was faulty until I read your post. It’s because of your reply I was able to wire the right hand light up. Thanks a million.

    I have just watched this video again, here is a little tip that you might want to take on board
    Once you have stripped back the insulation and wound the copper wire around the existing feed I would strong suggest soldering that joint and covering it heat shrink, over time insulation tape degrades and comes loose.
    With a soldered joint you have a firm copper to copper contact, plus being located in the boot area it is away from the wind so it makes soldering that much easier

    Hi I have a problem with my light switch.
    When I connect vcds I can test all the lights individually and they are working fine including fog lights front and back.
    But the fog lights don't work when I try switch them on on the switch.
    Vcds is showing position "1.0" when I switch to parking, position 8.0 when I turn low beam but doesn't show anything when I switch to fogs.
    I had tried 3 new switches and no joy.
    Please help
    Ps
    I have them tail lights installed with a decoder box

    Got a question. I installed these last night, outer ones works perfectly, but the inner light on the hatch do not. I spliced the license plate wire, and the license plate lights still work. But I am getting nothing from my hatch lights and am pulling an error when the car cannot detect them? is it a faulty harness? (kufatech) or do you think I spliced the wires wrong. Thanks!

    • @TimWilliamsHD
      @TimWilliamsHD  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      most likely a wire wrong... use a multimeter to check which wires are live when sidelights are switch on... should be 12 volts..

  • @javup5372

    Hi, just a quick question about the lights. I found one on eBay with plugs and wiring ready and the seller mentioned that it would just be plug and play for both the inner and outer lights without any wiring. Would this be the case? Also he mentioned that no coding would be required after installation, so I wanted to know if I have to code them after installation and if it’s absolutely necessary? Thank you!

    Hello! I have bough an a3 2005 with 2011 sline look. The back lights are like the ones you put in your car. The only thing is that in mine appart of the led which constantly stays on, its always on even the inside part(which should be the previous positionig light of the old type of lights). Can i just do sth like removing the lamps inside so i get only the led constantly on and clear the error somehow by computer? Thanks.

    Hi Tim.
    I’ve an A3 8P Sportback from 2006. I’ve bought the new headlights and the loom adapters. I also used your information in the video to turn on the led in the inners.
    Everything is working ok for me now. However the 2 bulbs in the outers are on with the LED, and just get stronger when I stop.
    Is that normal? Is that why you do the coding?
    Thank you in advance.
    Best regards

    • @TimWilliamsHD
      @TimWilliamsHD  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi mate,
      I've read that has happened before to someone but I can't recall what they had done to repair it unfortunately.
      You need to check these settings in your coding:
      Byte 9 to Dec = 0 (turns off bulb as light)
      Byte 10 to Dec = 0 (turns off bulb as light)
      Byte 12 to Dec = 48 (brightest setting for bulbs; 36 being a slightly dimmer alternative)
      Byte 19 to De-active (turns off the bulb-check function of the LED tube, thus stopping the flickering when ignition switched on)
      if this fails then check out this forum page mate... good luck!

  • @darren05
    @darren05 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    i have done this and spliced & soldered onto the origional wiring maintaining the old connectors, however one side i am getting very low power on the light (bulb faded), but the other side is fine, i swapped the dim side over to the other and i am getting the same, and the other side is fine, so i know the cabeling is fine, would you know the reason behind this? would it be a faulty bulb holder?

    • @TimWilliamsHD
      @TimWilliamsHD  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you mean by Dim Side? Is it the bulb or the whole unit that is dim?
      If it's a bulb try moving it around...

    • @darren05
      @darren05 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      at the moment, passenger side facelift light is working fine, and drivers side facelift light is like it is getting half power (very dim, also LED tube not lighting up).. when i swap this dodgy drivers side over to the passenger side it also is dim and seeing the same issues, so that has me thinking is it the drivers side bulb holder that is faulty, my original light is working on the drivers side (plus testing the other working passenger light works fine so i know its not the cabling) you mentioned a resister, would this be needed in my circumstances? i still havnt done the bootlid lights, i will do this the weekend,
      i also noticed that the bulb holder on the passenger side is white, and drivers is black (part #8P4945257D) i have no part number for the white but it looks far superior quality and cannot seem to find a white holder for the drivers side, doubt this is the issue as its the correct part and number for what i am doing

      Hi Raahish,
      3 door Audi A3 has 2 types of lights, halogen and led. the led ones are a direct fit so no computer coding or cables needed...

    Are the diagrams for if you don't have a lume? I've spoken to someone and have been informed that it's just simply plug and play, is that the case?

      Tim Williams hi there, I've set it all up and booked in for my coding on Saturday, however the left tube light doesn't seem to be on but the right one is, just wondering if this something that could be sorted with coding or if it's damaged or anything, thanks.

      Don’t think it’s coding, it’s more to do with harness unless it’s something to do with the lights itself?

    I've just done this tonight on my car, I bought harnesses and connected them all up, Inner lights I connected to the licence plate and then coded them.. but I'm getting no lights from the rear at all? No leds, brake lights or indicators... nothing! Checked for faults and it's saying every bulb it blown. Any ideas?

      most likely a wire wrong... use a multimeter to check which wires are live when sidelights are switch on... should be 12 volts..

      Hi Joe,
      There is a module you can buy which does it all just be plugging in the dongle into the obd port. Alternatively, look on audisport.com and find a vcds user in your area who will do it for some beer tokens!
