It's the fair warning album of DLR VH. Could hope they would sell a stand alone blu-ray later. TJR, FYI you mentioned all the upcoming special releases but didn't mention David Bowie Rock 'n' Roll Star box set 5CD/Blu Ray w/book being released on the 14th. Nobody is mentioning this on you tube or I haven't seen it. Basically contains all the material around the Ziggy Stardust album.
Speaking of upcoming archival releases, will you get & review the super deluxe Pete Townshend live box set that was announced a couple days back? With all that's included, it's listed at a great price.
I won’t be getting this. I find it a bit of a baffling choice for this. I liked Hagar Van Halen at the time, but always preferred the Roth era. A Fair Warning box set treatment would be welcoming. Or any Roth album for that matter. I always enjoy your videos.
There's definitely a market for seeing vault material from VH, but it grows smaller as each year passes. I don't want to see this music die. I don't think any VH fan wants to see that, but it will if it's not released soon.
Maybe they went for this because it is not really cheap on the aftermarket. Agree on more vault material. Instead of putting the original LP on 2 LPs with one side etched they could have put extra songs on the second vinyl (or maybe the Live show?). The price seems a bit too high to me. Would have been OK for a hard box I guess. About 25 bucks less might have done it for this version though. Nevertheless it is a nice edition for collectors and fans of the album.
I’ve come to realize the Hagar era hasn’t “aged well” vs. the Roth era, despite its relative success at the time. The first six albums get most of the praise, attention and love from their fans. I guess I’m in the minority, unfortunately. I went to see them live in ‘93 and Eddie was the star of the show for me and made me a fan. Sammy just happened to be the singer. But, it’s those four albums I am drawn to most, although VH I and 1984 are also high up on my list of favorite VH albums. It’s probably the fact my experience with them is different from many of their fans. If I were older, I’d probably feel differently. (I was just out of high school in ‘93) This is another limited edition, so like last year’s box set, it won’t be affordable or available long. It’s honestly aggravating because they’re not giving these albums the same treatment as their other albums. You can find VH I-1984 anywhere records are sold. But, the others? Good luck! I guess I’ll have to content myself with the CDs I have from thirty years ago for those versions because that’s all I have. I’m happy with the release of this, but it’s so limited in number, it’s not really worth it for me. At this point, I’d much prefer just the single LP available in a quantity that would make it easier to find in stores.
Actually I like For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge just the way it has always beem. I realy see this release as test marketing to see how big an audience there is for archival Van Halen releases. In the case of Van Halen, I would not prefer to see the box set editions of the albums coming out. I would rather see archival live albums from touring that album. Assemble some stellar performances from the tour for a two or three CD / 4 LP box set. Lets not over do the specific LP box set idea.
I hope you are right (regarding the test marketing). I know that a lot of fans like this one, so if this does well, perhaps they will do more. As far as Hagar era Halen, I would have been a lot more interested if it had been OU812 or 5150.
Fine with my original BMG CD bought in 1992 or so. Good album IMO, not a great one. I dug this one out a few months ago and enjoyed it. Also would like the blu ray, but wouldn't really be interested in anything else.

I think "5150" and "0U812" are much better than this album. The archival material is why I'm much more excited for The Police's upcoming "Synchronicity" box set. Where this box set is better, is with the inclusion of the Blu-Ray, with concert footage and the related music videos. That would've made the "Synchronicity" box set all the better. And The Police's Oakland concert, featured on CD in the box set was filmed.
Honestly it's not that great of an album. Now if they wanted to do super deluxe editions of the first four Van Halen albums those would be definite buys for me.
give up on the idea of “super deluxe editions” of roth albums, if anything the record company will just release the first 6 albums again with whatever remaster they did the last time.

Me too. I'm not a big fan of live albums, but I would buy the live set if it was separate from the main album.

It is a better album than OU812 But not more than 5150 imo.
5150 was a cool shot of summer for me.

The Doors sets did a similar thing too. I appreciate it since I like both, but I know that a lot of people only want one or the other.
