The toughest front in WWI by far. Definitely forgotten by any western countries apart from Italy and Austria. Almost nobody know about it. Onore agli Alpini

forgotten by brits and yankees, certainly not by us Italians. Italy fought alone and defeated alone Austria/Hungary, whilst it took the armies from 3 countries in France to induce Germany to surrender. Which, by the way, only happened when Germany was left alone as Italy had defeated Austria, their only allied, and a new southern front could have been open at any time from that moment
@Mein Führer What you say it's true but there were 2 Italian divisions (40'000 men) sent to the western front in France for the whole duration of the war. There was an Italian brigade of volunteers in France since 1914, 1 year before the intervention of Italy in the war. Kind of evens things out, don't you think? In any case, Italy DID fight alone because, although it's true that some French and Brits were sent to Italy after Caporetto, they almost never fought as they were hold back and only 1 French division actually saw the front line for about two months, on the Monte Grappa. About Americans, do you know how many men they sent? 1 regiment! 3000 men!!! And the fact that the so called "American intervention" in Italy in wwi is so famous is only due to an accident: one of those 3000 men was Ernst Hemingway! So, I say again, Italy fought alone, and defeated Austria Hungary alone, leading Germany to surrender.
Italy alone in the war and the winner? No. English and american groups fight with Italian ( just remember Hemingway and his book written on Isonzo front ). Winners? No. They have been defeat in Caporetto and they have retreated to Piave ( 300.000 dead and 350.000 italian prisoners ). On Piave alies ( english and american soldiers ) help italian army to resist. In that Hungary forces in Austroungarian army left the Austroungarian army ( because Hungary declare independence and their own state ) so Austrungary state didn't exist any more and the austroungarian government declare surrender. All the austroungarian army dizintegrated. The Italian army accept the surrender but with three day ingad so the practically without any enemy soldier infront went till Trieste and further. This is the history based on the books, testimonies and documents.
My great grandfather fought for Italy in this conflict and became a prisoner of war for 2 years in Austria. Thankfully he was already an American citizen and he was able to return home via the embassy in Vienna. Thank you for documenting this! I want to learn more

@@giulianoilfilosofo7927 Most people don't know the Italian front in World War I. Because the great effects of the war began to appear in the 12th Battle. Great effects? I mean final effects. Austria-Hungary was already a failed empire in the military and German forces had to go the French front. The Austro-Hungarian army, powerless and spread, then experienced a victory called vikatto-venetto by the Italian army. The Italians alone lost 650,000 soldiers. 900,000 soldiers and civilians (I think) were wounded. And anyway, if Germany fell, central Powers would fall completely. In short, it's just an unnecessary war that's caused people's deaths. Actually... All wars are unnecessary. Arthur Arz von Straußenburg, one of the Austro-Hungarian generals, successfully repelled all Italian attacks in italian front before the 12th Battle. The 6th Battle was the first attack by Austria-Hungary. But because they couldn't maintain the integrity of the army, it was failed attack.
In Italy it has never been forgotten!

Viva Italia..
we are lucky to live today, imagine that suffering!!! today we are protesting only because we have to stay home a few days!
The Austrians clearly the winners. Caporetto.
Yea, just Caporetto. One battle they won there, but then they've lost the whole of the war.
What happened at Vittorio Veneto?
The fine South Tyrol people should not allow the Fnglish to set a foot on their soil.
