Good evening my lovely sewing sister, i am sad that you have been feeling so low Katinka, because i know myself just how bad things can feel. I hope that you are feeling the tight hugs that i am sending to you, because you are a lovely, lovely lady that could have lots of reasons to be down and low, but you keep on going, trying so very hard to keep it at bay, and i'm sorry that you are feeling like that. For a number of reasons that i won't go into, i can understand just some of what life is throwing at you, but i hope that, that corner is turning for you. Oooo, i love the new clothes that you have made for yourself and others, and they are all a one off, because they are bespoke tailoring, made by your own clever hands. When ever i see your video's come on, i watch and tell my friend Margaret what you have been up to lately, because she lived in South Africa for 5 years before coming back home to Scotland. She lovely the people so much that she was across there every 2nd year visiting, until the last 10, where she was across each April to May for 6 weeks. You're new jumper that you are longing for is a beauty flower, i just love knitting Islandic jumpers. Where i live in Scotland is just a few hundred miles away from Jamieson's Yarn, Shetland. Shetland yarn lasts a lifetime if looked after properly and not put in a boil wash in the washing machine. I made an in-law a pure wool fine Aran pattern and they put it in the washing machine on hot and then added insult to injury and put it in the tumble dryer. The jumper came out large enough to fit a baby, it looked as if it was made into a boiled woolen fabric, that was all matted together. That was the last time i ever knitted for them because i was heart broken, it had taken me a month to knit that beautiful jumper. Take care my lovely sewing sister, until the next time. You’re such a lovely person sometimes I get depressed and get stuck and I have to be grateful for everything that I have and think good thoughts then I get the sewing bug again and start sewing sewing. Always cheers me up. I go to another place every time I get to sell.

Thank you, what you said hit home for me. I’m going to apply it to my life. I’m 71 and retired. All I ever wanted in life since a was a little girl was to be a housewife and mother. But I always had to work along with the wife and mother duties. I was very successful in my career and I’ve been told a good mother and wife. But I have never felt fulfilled. Since I retired I have been trying to live my childhood dream, but it really isn’t doing what I thought it would. So, I started back sewing. I have a beautiful sewing room with all the bells and whistles. I have bought fabric and patterns to the extreme, and l am just not feeling it. When I heard you today, I felt God lead me to your video today. I’m subscribed to your channel and have watched most of your videos, but today it spoke to me, not what I could sew next, but to me. ( by the way your video with you riding your bike and then knitting for the balance of the video was really calming for me. I watched the entire video ) now I’m going to listen to this video again and see where it leads me. Your insight on this video really spoke to me at a time I really needed it. This is such a great video! And I can’t agree more with I guess you could call it toxic positivity. A lot of people aren’t just real anymore. Always love your videos and appreciate your perspective on things! also, this is the Wild because this is exactly where I’ve been over the last couple of weeks as well. Tank you, Lisa, I find it interesting how I resisted making this video because I did not want to burden people; usually, I would stop posting when I feel this way, but I thought about how often others feel the same and let this be a guide to get through it, I hope you feel better soon.
So much to think about in your video! Thank you for sharing. I think modern society sometimes makes us think life should be easier than it is, we should be happy like people in advertisements...but they're actors - real life is quite different and there are challenges we never anticipate. Sometimes sewing brings solace and a little feeling of being able to control something, anyway; other times it can be hard to get started. Comparison is the thief of joy, I know for a fact - I enjoy all the different sewing videos I watch for different reasons, but I am a very slow sewer and sometimes that can get me down because I want to do much more than I get done while some vloggers seem quite able to be on top of getting things done. We all go at our own pace, it's not a race, and we all "win" in different ways that are right for us. The pleasure of making something that is right for us is worth it.

Lovely makes, Katinka! Great advice! Welcome to the human race. Somehow we tend to think we should ALWAYS be up and happy. (And I am not down playing anyone's depression. I know it is real.) It's okay to be down sometime. Menopause, peri-menopause are all major hormone changes that affect more than just hot flashes. Be patient with and good to yourselves. Also, if you live in the northern hemisphere, Seasonal Affective Disorder is a real thing. Love to everyone, especially those struggling. 🥰 Bernadette
Depression isn’t the same as feeling low. As we head into the darkness and cold of winter, plus the holidays it is easy to get down. If it lasts more than a few days get help. Find a few minutes to journal and meditate.

Right now I am trying to get on track with my writing.....Have not written a thing since early October.....my journal this year is going to have holes and lots of them. Take care of yourself....

I find when things get overwhelming, I withdraw. But the real solution for me is to take a break and reassess my goals. If possible, I try not to put pressure on myself to commit to a timeline. I hope you enjoy the holidays without too much stress.

Goals do not need to be big. It can be to finish a top, to go for walks, or to take part in a collaboration. Planning a holiday or reaching a particular milestone on TH-cam. I am working towards relocating, which is big, but when I reach that, my goals might turn into something like planting and harvesting tomatoes. I hope this answers your question. As for being real.. you are, and I love that about you.
