  • Nicky Gumbel from Alpha on Why He Changed His Mind About Church Online, Why Online is a Better Outreach Tool Than In-Person Ministry, and How He Repositioned His Church and Alpha for Explosive Growth
Nicky Gumbel is a former barrister (attorney), pastor of Holy Trinity Brompton, London, one of the largest churches in the UK and pioneer of Alpha, a ministry that's reached over 20 million people with the Gospel. Nicky explains how and why he changed his mind about church online, why, despite his misgivings, it's a better evangelism tool than in-person ministry, and how he repositioned his church and Alpha for explosive growth during the pandemic.

Thank you for promoting services online. My Mum is in aged care and before COVID19 the Catholic and Anglican priests would visit the centres weekly in person and do services. Yesterday was Pentecost Sunday and the only way she can attend services is if she sees them online. I take my iPad in every Sunday to her centre and we watch the service together. As a devout Anglican Christian woman this gives her such peace and strength and comfort. It immediately calms her anxiety which has built up due to being confined to a nursing home. No elderly can leave the Aged Care facilities in Australia. The only way she can attend church is if I take it to her on my iPad.
