They did a contract marriage initially so he could save her from getting in trouble when she was in court, he said she was his fiancée and vouched for her. They then had to marry because of the warlord. He already loved her at this point. She drew up a stupid contract etc, but fairly quickly she saw how genuine and kind he was to her ( he was a jerk to her in the beginning), and she reciprocated his feelings, but she acts very foolishly for a supposedly smart intelligent girl and keeps getting involved ( not romantically) with 2ML , plus others have caused issues like she was drugged and nearly raped, now her baby was killed etc etc. The misunderstandings are ridiculous and make me not want to watch it.

@@newzade1 Her character in the novel is more tragic (less annoying for me). Spoiler below... ... FL in the novel was actually truly in love with the second ML, Mu Zizheng. But she never made it clear to the ML and unintentionally led him on. I don't think it's her fault because while the marriage was being arranged, she was kind of coming to terms with her feelings towards the second ML, she was dazed most of the time. Like what we'd expect from a teenage girl who's having a crush. She did not speak out until the marriage was almost finalized. In the novel, there was no contractual marriage to bail her out of her mess (assassination attempt on Commander Kang). The ML wanted to marry her so the Xiao family arranged the marriage. Anyway, the ML in the novel was more overbearing in a toxic way. He killed the second ML in front of the FL and brutally raped the FL.
