Yet there is a serious physics explanation for this: A fully locked wheel does only slide over the asphalt. Meaning they turn on, then off, then on then off, and the cycle repeats until the vehicle stops or wheel slip is no longer detected. I'm assuming your old enough to drive, have you ever tried to stop a car in the winter and the ABS turns on and you just keep going? The other assumption made is that the brake system actually has enough force to lock all 4 wheels. On a lot of older cars, that wasn't the case. Again, assuming you can drive, you can prove this out yourself. Get a safe section of abandoned or barely used road or parking lot, set up a cone and do a full panic stop from something like 30 or 40 mph (you don't have to be going fast, but higher speed will show greater difference in distances) and measure the distance. Next find the ABS pump fuse, or disconnect the pump so it doesn't operate. Your brakes will still work, but you will not have ABS. Now do the same test and mark your distance to stop. I guarantee you it will be less. don't forget to reconnect the pump or put the fuse back in... lol... I'm an engineer, this is the kind of stuff I do. I have a Jaguar XFR and an Mercedes E63 AMG S model, so I am quite familiar with performance cars.
