    Pattie Boyd was George Harrison's wife and recorded "Something" in 1969. Eric Clapton fell for his best friend's wife, Pattie, while she was still married to George and wrote "Layla" in 1970 about his unrequited love for her. George and Pattie separated in 1974 and divorced in 1977. Pattie married Eric in 1977 but divorced him due to his infidelities.

    Great to have you back! Any song from Abbey Road takes me right back to the summer of '69. An older neighbor boy got the album first, and ALL of us swarmed to their house. The front yard was littered with the bikes of all of us, hastily discarded to get inside for that first listen. This song, simple as it is, sounded so unique to me. The Beatles were still evolving, even as they slid toward their breakup (which I was blissfully unaware of when this came out).

    Frank Sinatra loved this song, said it was the "greatest love song written in the past 50 years." He even did a cover of it in 1970. And in 1973 Elvis sang this Beatles song! It was so beautiful - and live. He didn't normally sing Beatles songs, probably only 4 or 5 at most.

    Welcome back Momma Gap and Baby Gap! You both were very much missed. Hopefully, you both are well. "Something" is one of the many great Beatles songs. While he was always in the shadow of John Lennon and Paul McCartney, George Harrison was a great songwriter, too. In my opinion, "Something" is the best song George Harrison ever wrote. This song has been covered by many artists such as the legendary Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley (both versions are excellent). In fact, Frank Sinatra said that "Something" is the greatest love song written in the last 50 years whose lyrics never specifically say "I love you". Coming from Frank Sinatra, that's high praise.

    • @mnomadvfx
      @mnomadvfx ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You missed the part where Sinatra initially called it the best Lennon/McCartney song he'd every heard 😅
      Poor George was so in their shadow with The Beatles that even when he wins he loses.

    The other half that makes you complete ... A favorite of Frank Sinatra. Eternal. They usually started out with a song, played it for one another, made their suggestions, added to it or took away from it until they arrived at the finished song. Model Patti Boyd played one of the girls on the train in their first movie, A Hard Day's Night (1964). :)

    Glad you're back.
    The song is perfection, and the video is to me too. It has 'Beatles quality' written all over it. Sad to know that one from each of the couples are gone, but the art of the song and the video let them live forever - young, hopeful and happy. 1960s were the pinnacle of the human race, I guess - and they were lucky to be on top in those times.

    Hard to understand today how big the Beatles were in the 60s. I never knew who the song was about. Nor did I really care, since for me the song was about the girl with whom I was in love. So glad you are both back.

    hard to believe 5 years earlier - the flick ' Hard days night ' in the first 5 or 6 min. of that movie, as mentioned - Patti ( the model here) was on the train - it had become a quite different planet. I think about 8 -10 years after this, Ringo , barely seen here, married a Bond film girl. they're still hitched.

    @Generation Gap- Great Reaction here. I love the Beatles. They are the greatest group ever and nobody can touch them. They changed music. Something is one of the all time great Beatle songs. This was one of the few songs he did. The majority Beatle songs are written and sung by either Paul Or John. I have always been a huge Paul fan. You guys need to go down the rabbit hole of them. A few I recommend are Let It Be, Hey Jude, Looking through you, Lose That Girl, Help.

    Speaking of Frank Sinatra, he sang a song called Linda. It was written in 1946 and a version of it by someone else spent two weeks at number 1 in 1947. "When I go to sleep. I never count sheep. I count all the charms about Linda". This was written about a five-year-old girl named Linda Eastman. She's Paul's wife in this video.

    Around the same time, in the year1968, before Harrison's Something was written, James Taylor, who before big fame, was in London recording for Apple records under the Beatles supervision, wrote a song Something in the Way She Moves. That appeared on his 1968 debut album for Apple Records, James Taylor. The opening line inspired George Harrison to write the No. 1 Beatles' song "Something". According to James Taylor's stage banter at The Star in Frisco 31 July 2017, this was the song he played for Paul McCartney and George Harrison as an audition before signing with Apple Records. Lesser talents would have written a corny line like "Hey baby, you're really something...." lol.

    Also, two parting thoughts about the video, I love how John and Yoko look like they are headed to a Star Wars convention in their long black cloaks lol. And I honestly can’t blame both George and Eric Clapton for being madly in love with Pattie Boyd, just look at how warm and loving her energy is. Yes, she is drop dead gorgeous, but she has a certain spirit that just can’t be put into words.

    George was married to Patti Boyd at this time. A few years later, she would marry Eric Clapton, who sort of stole her from George. However, George and Eric would remain friends, and they would often perform together from time to time and in concert, all the way into the early 90s. George would remarry Olivia Trinidad, and they would have a son, who grew up to be Dhani Harrison, an accomplished artist in his own right.

    Patti Boyd Harrison / Clapton has at least 7 songs written to / about her. 3 by George, 4 by Eric. Her younger sister Jenny even had a song written about her "Jennifer Juniper" by Donovan. (Jenny later married Mick Fleetwood.) Ringo's marriage to Maureen would only last a few more years, George and Patti split and she ended up with Clapton for quite sometime. Paul and Linda were together for about 30 years until her passing, and John and Yoko until his death.
