    Slipping is an art and must be done visually. All pressure instruments become inaccurate and how inaccurate depends on which way the slip is done (the pitot tube and static port are out of line regarding airflow). Notice how the nose "pops up" when the slip is initiated. Some degree of this will always occur when flying out of co-ordination. The fuselage being presented to the airflow causes lift up and away! You need to anticipate and apply forward pressure and additional aileron against it. Now, try to slip in the same direction the crosswind correction is anticipated so that the drastic forward slip to lose altitude EASES OFF to become a perfect crosswind correction down on the runway. Doing the opposite is very impressive and serves well as display in airshow landings but might be somewhat risky if shearing (treetop turbulence) is present. Also that Dutch Roll required to get over to the crosswind correction is a tricky maneuver all on its own. Slip in the direction of the crosswind until enough practice and experience prevail. Even then be wary of your tactics. Read this post slowly and carefully then review the pilot technique in the video. Afterwards academically learn the difference between side-slip, forward slip and crosswind correction. When you realize they are all the same but have unique purposes your flying will improve tenfold. You will also qualify to be a much better tail wheel pilot if your going that way.

      Which is why we practiced Dutch Rolls, and I have tail-wheel and heel-brake endorsements. Skis, too.

    Nice forward slip, and with full flaps as well.

      And its controlability at low speed is kind of insane. Huge rudder, huge elevator, flaperons that look like they're 15% of the lifting surface or more. The only problem with it is that it lets you get away with shit you couldn't do in almost any other airplane.

    I've done this in a J22. It's nice to have the option, ya know? Sudden black squall, so pivot and drop like a helicopter, and then get to the tie down before it blows the plane, and you, away. :-) Well done!!!

      I show a side slip.
      It's a way to get a plane down quickly.
      maximum right side rudder and left balancer.
      Now work the height rudder as side rudder. with this position the lift is broken in the wing.

    I don't even see a sideslip here at all. All I see is a forward slip to lose altitude and then straightening out to do a normal landing. I don't even notice any crosswind at all. I must not be seeing something.

    Nothing special nor "extreme" here, just a sideslip which everybody has to learn. However, I am not impressed by those who cannot land on the centreline! Nice video...

    • @Marchflyer
      @Marchflyer 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      True. Another thing is flaps extension that is not really recommended with side slips due to significant differeence in structure loads

      @karhukivi 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Marchflyer On that aircraft? The aircraft I used to fly (Socata Rallye) permitted them as the problem of having to lose altitude quickly usually arises on overshooting a landing, when the flaps would normally be deployed and the airspeed is low.
