    Lidar motor belt design is the biggest problem with this D8 model. It seems there is a lot of people having issues with it because the rubber they're using is a cheap quality rubber and it loosens to a degree where the lidar module slips and vacuum turns itself off and on repeatedly until this is resolved.

    This is interesting, most review channels just say that nothing has changed as all they care is fancy features. But even the fact that this is easy to service is a big deal.
    And i think this is best looking bot so far that i have seen. Still going to get an used D7, as those are starting to be cheap.

    I bought a d7 a couple months ago. Gave it no chance and took it back. Bought it again last week. Dialed it in w app and no goes....awesome vac. It runs downstairs while a shark w self empty runs upstairs. Will see if that one passes

    I have 11 Neato's including 2 D3's, 2D4's, 2 D5's 2 D7's, and three old model Neato Botvac Connected's (with display). One thing strange is the side brushes immediately failed on the D5's and D7's but have been holding up fine on the Botvac Connected's for over a year of heavy use on thick carpeting and hardwood flooring even though they run on the same flooring material as the models that failed early on. The belts on the Connected must have been a better choice by Neato. Will be taking a couple apart soon to make some repairs and I will report back on difference in the belts, if any.

    Glad they replaced the side brush assembly. I have a D7 and fixed the side brush multiple times and finally stopped worrying about it. However, I've replaced the lidar belt a couple times. I've replaced the wheels once. I've replaced the motor once. It got to the point I was fixing something once a month. I was ready to get a new Neato but the reviews have been TERRIBLE! I hope they fix the software bugs.

    I can confirm that the new brush makes a lot more noise on hard floors. Neato confirmed this and says it improves the pickup a bit and that they wont sell the old brush any more. Thus I must advise people to buy them on amazon or any third party. The reason for the noise is that the rubber flaps keeps slapping the floor instead of real spiral brush that has a constant contact point some where on the brush. Any ways, I'm disappointed, mainly because they discontinued the old brush..

      The D8, D9 and D10 brush is the same as the older D7 brush which was also super noisy. I liked the spiral brush on my older D5 a lot better and I did change my D7 over to the spiral brush. I have all hard floors and yes, the straight brush is noisy. However, it does quiet down with use (bristles and rubber flaps soften)

    I’m wondering if the side brush drive motor can be swapped to the older d5-d7.

    Thank you for the video. It is very helpful. My D8 has stopped charging and will not power on. The battery is good, the charger is good, and the contacts are good. So now I'm lost. Do you have any suggestions on what might be causing this problem? Thank you.

    they all got the same bottom chassis but different revisions, all botvac brushes fits on the newer ones, they all share the same for decades but the internals are a bit different

    Hello, good Video for understanding the machine!
    I have an uneven slate floor: the slate surface is uneven: about 3mm, sometimes 5 mm. Could that be a problem for the D10? Scratching on the ground and giving high wear for instance? Or giving bad suction results while not reaching the surface on other places?

    Bought it today as second hand unit. First thing I've noticed, side brush doesn't spin. So it could only mean those plastic teeth are worn. Would love to change belt to be honest. My d85 ,d5 and d7 all had this issue, but was easy to fix. Bummer.

    • @MR_Garage

      I would more guess it is stuck. So far, have never heard of one with stripped side brush motor. Possible I guess as is anything!

    If they improved the software as much as the hardware then this would have been a really good product.

    Hey great video. We've had a D5 for 3 years. We've had a few issues with it that I've been able to repair. Right now it starts but won't run. It does the 3 attempts then stops. I noticed the lidar doesn't light up anymore or spin. I ran it with the cover off and the motor for the lidar doesn't even move. Any idea how to troubleshoot this? I was looking at getting the D8 with a 7 year warranty but I would love to be able to fix the broken D5. Thanks!

      @MR_Garage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could be a broken lidar belt, dead motor or the motor is simply stuck. Did you try to rotate it back and forth by hand? Smack it a couple of times for good measure 😅 usually gets them going again.

    Great video. Based on the hight of D7 and D8 on Neato website, they should be same height. Is that not correct?

    I have a D8 and I am getting navigation sensor error, where is that and how can I fix it please?

    • @MR_Garage
      @MR_Garage  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Make sure the lidar dish spins freely. If it does not spin at powerup, then check the belt.

  • @dtiydr
    @dtiydr ปีที่แล้ว +1

    they might improved the D8 hardware but the D9 software is horrendous which I just cant for my life understand how they can messe that up so dam much as they did. The really old D5 was even better in the navigation then the new D9!

    Can you tell me how to clean the navigation sensor on a D10?? I ran it twice in one day and now I get this error. Thank you.

      What does the map look like on the app? Does it look like a gray star around the vac?

    • @michielhoudkamp
      @michielhoudkamp 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So I have a D10 and it suddenly has issues navigating. The map just creates a big grey circle around the bot. Cleaned the lidar with a q tip and compressed air but that didn’t help. Is there a way to factory reset these models?

    This new model they released is half baked and their other models i’ve noticed are quantity over quality. Shame and they’re the ones introduced the D shape which I highly appraise.

      I am not sure where all the hate is coming from. My D8 is still working quite well. Few minor glitches but I had that with my D5 and D7. Hardware wise, this one is vastly improved (Time will paint the full picture on that however)

      @@MR_Garage I had to replace the first one in a week because the charging base just stopped charging. Now I'm watching this video because within a month charging base stopped working again. Never had issues with D7. The 10 looked nice but it doesn't exist I guess. Figured I'd watch this to see about disassembling charing base to see if something is up inside. It's just so odd.

      Interesting - will make sure to note if mine fails! I am only about a month and a half in - so far so good still. Runs at least once a day / has to charge to finish but knocking things out as it should.

    How’s the software holding up? We’re weighing the D7 or if the extra cost of the D8 is worth it…

    • @MR_Garage
      @MR_Garage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is not an upgrade to the D7, but software (app) is generally better. No room cleaning like D7 but it never worked right for me anyways.

  • @john2001plus

      I have a D8 (and a 2nd d8 I gave to my son) and D10 currently. Both have gone into warranty for critical issues that cannot be corrected in field. While I like both units, I am surprised how failure prone they are. I have a hard time recommending them unless they are on sale. Both D8's failed with what I call the RGB crash. Unit will do nothing but show RGB LED's showing a ranbow pattern. Nothing corrects this and the unit has to go back in. The D8's were purchased years apart, same failure. The D10 had lidar death star which the lidar map looks like a star and the bot cannot navigate. Had to go back. Received it, and it would not connect to a network. They advance replaced it.

    My D5 lasted 18 months lots of reboot errors with no possible repair, and my D7 lasted 21 months and a wheel fell off literally fell off while running around, Neato gave me nothing! I'm trying an I robot; Neato's lack of support and longevity indicates to me that they aren't that great of a company.

    I thought I was the only one taking these apart for fun! haha! Thanks for sharing. I'm sticking to my fleet of D7's till the D10's are out for another year. Hopefully them murge the apps so D7 and new gen can be on 1 app
