My parents kick it old school and go for the default check. They didn't get it this year so they asked me for help. This youtube video helped me complete the form. Thank you very much. Thumbs up from me.
Thanks for this! Wife and I received and lost our check for EIP2 during a move, and we were a bit perplexed by the process. This was extremely helpful!
Hi Jason, great video it helped a lot to get most of the file filled out. You didn't go over the very top part of the form, and I wasn't sure if we had to put anything for the blank lines. Also, since I'm sending this for my refund check, I would have to fill out the date filed section right?
We received a check in 2021 for $1,200 even though we are married, joint with kid. I talked to the IRS and it turned out this was not even the EIP3. This video is very helpful thanks.
Hi Jason, thanks for this very informative video! For mailing this form, do we have the option to fax it instead? If not, what about expats who are living abroad? You mentioned it's better to mail based on where you reside, but obviously that would be different for people who are living abroad. I hope you see this, and thanks again!
However you sent me notice saying that I owe $460 for something I never I was homeless you had been homeless for many years and I haven't filed for many years decades you know what I do what do I do about that
Thank you very much, Jason, it took me over five months to take to IRS agents. I was on the phone for four hours lol, The information you provide is excellent. again Thank you. I just need to mail it to the right location...
Yes, you can handwrite the type of EIP payment on the top of the page. Just make sure it is legible so the IRS can clearly see which type of payment you are claiming (EIP3, EIP2, or EIP1)
Yes, for the EIP3 you should put 2021. See the description of the video for more updates. The IRS guidance changes a lot, and they now recommend you contact the IRS first to speak with an agent and start a payment trace. The Form 3911 is filed afterwards.
If it has been that long, the next step is to contact the IRS by phone and speak with a representative. The IRS rep can initiate a payment trace on your behalf. Having to call the IRS can be frustrating because you are generally on hold for a long time, but it is a necessary step at this point....
Thank you for your great explanation. My daughter moved in 2020 but filed her 2020 with new address. Unfortunately the IRS did not process her 2020 return until early 2022 so her EIP3 was sent to old address and it was not forwarded. I wrote IRS in June 2021 and explained everything and they sent her a letter in March 2022 simply confirming they sent her check to old address. We attempted six times to call and after an hour or so on hold each time we were told to call another number to start an IRS search for the original check to see if it was cashed by someone else. After ten attempts to call the number we were told to call again in a less busy time. If we send the form 3911 do you feel they will figure this out or simply send another letter confirming they send her the money already? They need to start that search to rule out a fraud situation.. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this!
You can certainly try sending the Form 3911, but you might face the same issues. The recent guidance suggests it is always best to contact the IRS first by phone to start a payment trace. You've already done that, so now the only next step is to file a Form 3911. Honestly, the IRS systems are a mess and it could take a very long time to get it resolved. The IRS is being ultra conservative with releasing payments because they believe too many taxpayers are receiving doubled checks or there is an identity theft issue.
Excellent video! One question: if we have relocated out of state since 2020, should we mail this form to the IRS office for our current state of residence or to the IRS office for the state in which we were living when our stimulus check should have been issued (Box #3)? I assume it would be where we were living at the time of filing since that is the office which will need to run the trace. Thanks for the wonderful walk through helping me track down this missing payment!
hello Mr Jason first and for most not with an awesome video It was very informational and helpful , although with that being said I just have two questions so my situation was a little different somebody found my taxes I believe and it was processed and it was sent to a bank and Santa Barbara Bank and well I spoke to the IRS IRS indicated but I needed to spell out a 3911 because the EIP number two or one or both went to the Sylvester Bank/Tanta Barbara Bank so I'm filling out the form now and I'm not for sure if I should say it was stolen or if I'm just didn't receive it

If someone stole your stimulus check, the first step is to contact the IRS and report the theft. The IRS agent will open a file and give you further instructions.

Hello Jason, thx a lot. I have a question, hopefully you know the answer;) what if I received the check, I actually just found it. Of course it is expired by now. What do I choose then?
Hi Jason-It looks like the IRS changed their criteria for the third stimulus check (based on 2020 AGI) and the Recovery Rebate Credit (based on 2021 AGI). Is there anyway to get this amount if you didn't receive the third check, but your AGI goes up and you don't qualify for the Credit on your 2021 return?
Hi Jason, I have a question on my situation with my married filing jointly status with my husband. If just one of us is missing the EIP3 do both of our names need to be on the form? Or just the person who didn't receive the EIP3? Thank you so much for this video btw!! It helped relieve a bunch of stress and anxiety!!
Yes, you can fax the form to the appropriate fax number depending upon which state you live. www.irs.gov/newsroom/questions-and-answers-about-the-first-economic-impact-payment-topic-f-payment-issued-but-lost-stolen-destroyed-or-not-received
Based on the new IRS procedures, we recommend that you first contact the IRS via phone and initiate a payment trace request. The IRS agent can give you further instructions over the phone as to where to file the Form 3911.
Fantastic video! I submitted this form 4 weeks ago. How long does the IRS have to respond? Am I allowed to resubmit the form? I haven't heard anything back yet...
Unfortunately, it is going to take months to hear anything back from the IRS. 4 weeks is too soon to resubmit any documents. You can always contact the IRS by phone and try to obtain an update, but they will generally just tell you to wait longer...
Sorry but when I watch your tutorial It skips past the top of the page down to "John taxpayer". How should I fill in the blanks at the top of the form. Also my pdf didn't have any numbers 1, 2 or 3 at the top of the form. Thanks in advance. Edward from Osaka Japan
So I’m wondering what would be the best to put for my circumstance, I didn’t receive the 2021 3rd stimulus check of 1400, I spoke to a lady weeks ago she said and she said a physical copy of the check was sent to my house but I know I never received it, so would I put never received it or lost, stolen, ect.?
Hello. I have a fews question. My parents didn’t get a tax refund this year because the irs sending to my old address and I’m trying to call them everyday but they don’t pick up. Should I fille this form ?? Please help me.
Hi Jason, thank you very much for your tutorial. In my case is about refund check from tax year 2018. I received refund check in 2019 and it has not been cashed and now it is expired. Until now (July 2022) i dont received the new refund check (replacement) I have been calling the IRS several times, but it is quite impossible to speak with someone about it. I am wondering if i have to send some form to IRS or to do something asking about the mail (delivery) the new refung check. I appreciate any feed back. Thanks.
If I'm only applying for EIP 3 do I still put in tax yr 2020 or 2021? This form 3911 can be faxed correct ? I saw on the IRS website that it can be mailed or faxed
I checked the "get my payment" tool and it shows that a payment was made, but the bank account was one digit off from my actual bank account. Should I submit this form?
If the system is showing as payment completed, it could meant the payment was deposited into another persons bank account. You should contact the IRS first before submitting any forms.
That's my current issue. Unfortunately my credit union was charging names and account # at the time the second and third check's were issued. Getting an actual person on the phone from the IRS is ridiculous. I'm not quite sure how to go about filling out this form and I don't want to do it wrong.
You can download the Form 3911 from the IRS website. If you visit the IRS forms and instructions database and search 3911. www.irs.gov/forms-instructions-and-publications
Yes, you can use a Form 3911 to file for a missing refund check. The IRS recommends you contact them first to start a payment trace. After the call, they may advise you file Form 3911
On IRS website it stated that we are supposed to put in stimulus refund check trace before you file ur tax return 2021 inorder to get ur refund. IRS cannot reissue a ck. This i didn't know until yesterday after I already filed my tax return in Feb. I claimed Recovery Rebate Credit but later got a letter from IRS saying they owe me $0. Called IRS put in a trace but I was told up to 120 days from April 11. IRS rep said to call back after 120 days since IRS can't reissue a check. I'm confused 120 days is that excluding holidays and weekends? And also how would the IRS send the refund if IRS cannot reissue a check?
There is no guidance yet on filing Form 3911 for missing advanced child tax credit payments. For now, it seems the best approach is to wait until you need to file your Form 1040 for the 2021 tax year. When you compute the child tax credit on your Form 1040, record the actual amount of advanced payments received during the 2021 calendar year, and the remainder owed (if any) will be added to your tax refund on Form 1040.
I clicked link for specific state address to send my 3911, however I was unable to locate the list. Would you be able to prove state of FL address to send 3911? Thanks so much!
Hi Jason, in my situation it’s very different. I’ve been on my own for years since the age of 15 with no support from my parents at all, I’ve been 18 for a while now but they were wrongfully claiming me for all the stimulus checks. Is there any way I can get a refund for the money I lost?
It is possible for parents to claim their children as dependents up to the age of 24, so long as the child is a student and the parents provide more than 1/2 of their support. The IRS might think that you are still a dependent of your parents, which is why they issued them your stimulus checks. If they claimed you as a dependent, they should amend their Form 1040 for the years you were claimed as a dependent. If they refuse to amend prior year returns, you need to contact the IRS directly and explain your circumstances.
Hi! Fantastic video. Thank you. I live abroad and lost my first stimulus check. I’m preparing the 3911 form to fax in. If it came as a check, can I ask for direct deposit? I remember the first check was for $1400, but in the list it says $1200 is the maximum payment for the first stimulus check. Should I leave the amount blank online 7, or should I write the actual amount that was on the check (1400)? Thank you again! 😀
Hello Jason! I was issued my 3rd stimulus, however, it was not direct deposited into my account like the first 2. I call IRS. Spoke to a rep, told me to look on my transcripts and there it was 1400 issued March 2021. I checked my bank statements from March-Dec 2021. Was not deposited. So I filled out and faxed that form to start the trace. Wrote EP3. I can’t remember the right acronym. But I wrote what you said on February 2nd. My question is, can I file my taxes before I get that response of the trace. The guy said I probably received a debit card. But I probably threw it out thinking it was junk Mail. He said thousand of Americans did that. Also told me I had to put that info on line 30. Do I file without receiving the results? Or wait? I know the IRS guy said this is the only way to receive that 3rd stimulus
I would also like to know this! I was issued money, but technically never received the actual money and am stuck on what I am supposed to note in my taxes for 2021.
@@emellebeee So I went ahead and filed my taxes without waiting for my trace to. E completed. There is a place that asks if you received the 3rd stimulus when I filed. I said no, which it gives you the response to fill out, which was $0 received. In the end, the 1400 will be sent to me. Will receive the check in April along with the normal amount I should receive from my income tax. I know I never cashed a check or received a debit card so I’m not worried because if they send me that 1400, and it is found that I received it, I would then have to pay it back! Just file folks!
Hi Jason so I filed taxes and claimed the Recovery Rebate Credit for 2021 since I didn't get the refund and the IRS adjusted the refund and took the 1400 off thinking I already got it but I didn't. I'm going to fill out the form 3911 but have a question since I did the taxes already, under section 1 line 7 do I put the date I filed electronically to the IRS under date filed? I know you said to leave it blank unless already filed. Just want to make sure I got the info correct on that. Thank you
One more additional question. If I received correspondence from the IRS (notice CP12) do I check under section II line 10 and then attached a copy of it? Thank you again your so helpful.
Yes, you can fax the Form 3911 to the IRS. They have a list of the available IRS offices and fax numbers in the FAQ for the stimulus payments. You can view that page here: www.irs.gov/newsroom/questions-and-answers-about-the-third-round-economic-impact-payment-topic-j-payment-issued-but-lost-stolen-destroyed-or-not-received
I need to file a 3911 form because my payment's were sent to previous address was filling jont my wife passed last year can I still go ahead with sending in 3911 with my signature only
My understanding is NO. The Form 3911 is a federal tax form created by the IRS, so it wouldn't be used to request state funds under a state financed program. I would check with the California FTB website for instructions on how to claim your golden state stimulus if you never received a payment.
Hi Jason: I have been divorced several years and sold jointly owned house this year. He got 50% and I got 50%. Should we both be listed on the same 1099S? Do we just divide that on our individual tax return. Is there an additional form to fill out due to this situation? do we each take $250,000 off our share of the value? thank you
Most of the time the closing agent will issue a Form 1099-S to each spouse if the property was jointly held. Each spouse reports their 1/2 share on their personal tax returns, if filing separately.
The first stimulus check me and my daughter did not receive due to my husband having a ITIN number. (My daughter and I have valid social security numbers)...He now has a valid social security number. Can I still file this form to recieve that stimulus for me and my daughter and possibly my husband?
Even if you have past due tax debts, you are still supposed to receive a stimulus check. Stimulus checks are phased out if your income is above the thresholds.
I tried looking in the link in the description box for the correct mailing address but could not find it. Does anybody know where to look? I reside in Southern Cal and I don't know where to mail my form to. Please help!
Hi Jason. I finalized my divorce in February 2021. The EIP3 was mailed out in March (Part 1). My bank account was also hacked in January of 2021 so my accounts were frozen. I opened a new account the same day that the check was issued for direct deposit, I naturally assume that the bank sent it back. With that being said, I would think that they would have mailed me a check. Well, I never saw it. The ex was still living in my house at that time. I just want to know how and where it was sent to. (Part2). Will this form help my situation? Thank you.
My friend is filing this but he is in county jail, and will be going to prison, dont know when or where. What would we put as his address? Should he sent a letter with it saying whats going on? Because how will they know where to send the new check
Hi Jason I have a question so my parents didn’t get their EP3 stimulus so when they filed their taxes in 2022 for 2021 their tax preparer filed a recovery rebate credit for them..they got a letter from the IRS saying they have to pay that RRC back because they already received the EIP3 I am assuming the payment either got lost or stolen in the mail..what can I do can I file a form 3911 for them? Even though the IRS made them pay back the recovery rebate credit?
Yes. If you are parents and had a child born during 2021, you can claim the EIP3 payment for the child when filing your Form 1040 for the 2021 tax year. If the IRS already sent the EIP3 payments for husband & wife, you only claim one additional EIP3 payment of $1,400 for the newborn on the Form 1040.
These payments came out during my divorce. We filed jointly in 2019 (year of the divorce). The first EIP was sent to me via check, and it was split between myself and my ex as appropriate. I have not received the 2nd or 3rd payments, as the ex was somehow able to funnel everything into her bank account. I have documentation of this. Seeing how the money was distributed from the treasury electronically - the IRS "thinks" that I received the payments. What recourse do I have? Will completing these forms take care of it? Thanks.
There are a couple of issues to contend with. If your divorce was finalized in 2019, you should have filed as single taxpayers for 2019. Your filing status is determined on the last day of the tax year, so if divorced in 2019, needed a single tax filing for each for the 2019 calendar year. As far as reclaiming the money, the best first step is to go through your divorce attorney that handled the divorce on your side. You can go down this route of reclaiming a refund via Form 3911, but the IRS is going to be very unwilling to issue another payment in this context, absent a showing of outright fraud.
@@JasonDKnott I am in a similar situation (divorced in 2020). I'd like to just use this form to figure out if my ex received my 2nd and 3rd payments before reaching out to our lawyers. He has made it impossible for me to contact him directly so I have no way of knowing for sure. According to the IRS, I appear to have received all three payments
I misplaced my $600 stimulus check but fortunately, I found it BEFORE it expired. I tried getting it cashed BEFORE the one year expiration date but was unable to do so because all the places I went to refused to cash it because it was almost expired (7 days BEFORE the one year expiration date). They said that they don't cash refund checks because of so much fraud going on and even though the check is still valid at that point, they don't want to chance cashing it I told them it's legit! It has a watermark on it! They still refused to cash it.... When I file 3911, do I send in this $600 stimulus check? I endorsed it on the back when I first attempted to cash it. So I'm s little confused about Line 9 on Form 3911. Please reply at your earliest convenience. Best regards!
I would send the Treasury Check back with the Form 3911. On the back of the check you should write "VOID" in large letters to make it clear the check is no longer valid.
@@JasonDKnott I appreciate your response! I didn't send in Form 3911...yet, nor have I got in touch with the IRS but the IRS did send me a notice in March of this year (2022) that stated they were reissue me a new check for $600 and that I should receive it in the next 30 days. Well, here it is with August almost over with and I still have not seen no $600 refund check reissued...yet! I'm thinking maybe they are severely delayed and it's going to take 6 months to receive a paper check possibly??? Should I wait until it's been 6 months ? Or should I try to contact them somehow? If I should contact them, who do I contact in regards to getting a $600 stimulus check reissued? ANY information you can provide would be greatly appreciated! I do appreciate your time and help!!! Best regards!
Hi Jason. Mom never got her EIP3 payment so we tried to get it via a line item on her 2021 return. Subsequently, IRS sent her a CP12 notice, effectively negating her attemo to get that stimulus money. Should we now follow the instructions on the CP12 notice (write a letter explaining the problem) OR should we fill out and mail this form 3911? Thanks for any help.
The first section of the Form is not completed by the taxpayer. The first section is generally only completed by the IRS if they mail you a Form 3911 in advance. If you are completing your own Form 3911 from scratch, you leave the first section blank.
If i am filing for someone as their representative do i sign number 13 as me or them i am his power of attorney so i can sign is name but whose names goes on 13
Can I mail it to any verified IRS office that specifically handles issues with EIP payments within my area or does it have to be the address you have listed ?
Will this help for lost Advanced child tax credit payment? IRS is saying I rcvd all 6 and I did not. I only rcvd July, August, November & December. Missing Sept and Oct
Yes, you can call the IRS and request a payment trace, or file the Form 3911. I would contact the IRS first to discuss the issue. The IRS agent over the phone might be able to provide more information before you file the Form 3911.

If you go to the IRS website it clearly states select tax year 2021 not 2020
Is this true?
Yes
Hi Jason, Can we fax the filled form 3911 instead of mailing it ?
Yes, you can fax the form to the appropriate fax number depending upon which state you live.

Hello where can I find where to send my forms from? From Maryland

Many thanks, Jason. You saved me a lot pain and frustration! :)

Thanks.
Hi would ths also qualify for inmates who never received there 606 for 2020? if not Jason could you please advise thank you
My check has expired. What am I supposed to do?Besides, I got check from state MO and currently I am in AZ ,where should I send this form?
If your stimulus check expired, you can write VOID on the check and mail it back to the IRS with a completed Form 3911 requesting a new payment.
@@JasonDKnott Thanks for reply. I got check from State of MO and now I am in AZ ,where should I send this form . Thanks a lot for helping out.
@@JasonDKnott Thanks!
That's my current issue. Unfortunately my credit union was charging names and account # at the time the second and third check's were issued. Getting an actual person on the phone from the IRS is ridiculous. I'm not quite sure how to go about filling out this form and I don't want to do it wrong.
Where would I go to find this form so I could fill it out?
You can download the Form 3911 from the IRS website. If you visit the IRS forms and instructions database and search 3911.
www.irs.gov/forms-instructions-and-publications
If i didn’t receive the refund check over a year, this form still work for me? Thank you!
Yes, you can use a Form 3911 to file for a missing refund check. The IRS recommends you contact them first to start a payment trace. After the call, they may advise you file Form 3911
Thank you so much for your help, I am totally clueless with this stuff 🙏
Happy to help!
Hi what about the child credit tax do you write on top CTC Date, month and year ??
There is no guidance yet on filing Form 3911 for missing advanced child tax credit payments. For now, it seems the best approach is to wait until you need to file your Form 1040 for the 2021 tax year. When you compute the child tax credit on your Form 1040, record the actual amount of advanced payments received during the 2021 calendar year, and the remainder owed (if any) will be added to your tax refund on Form 1040.
Thank you. I was really stressing how to fill out this form.
I clicked link for specific state address to send my 3911, however I was unable to locate the list. Would you be able to prove state of FL address to send 3911? Thanks so much!
The IRS provides the mailing addresses on their FAQ page for the stimulus checks. We've added the IRS link in the description to this video.
@@JasonDKnott Okay great, they did refuse to amend it. Is there an IRS number I can call?
Thank you for being so thorough!

First check was 1200. Then 600 and 3rd was 1400
Hello Jason!
I am in the same situation. IRS said I received it but never did. I will fill out form 3911 today. Any luck on yours?
I filed this months ago and still nothing? What do I do now?
Thanks for this tutorial!

Are you able to fax information?
Yes, you can fax the Form 3911 to the IRS. They have a list of the available IRS offices and fax numbers in the FAQ for the stimulus payments. You can view that page here:

does this work with the Golden State Stimulus?

Thank you so much

The first stimulus check me and my daughter did not receive due to my husband having a ITIN number. (My daughter and I have valid social security numbers)...He now has a valid social security number. Can I still file this form to recieve that stimulus for me and my daughter and possibly my husband?

@@JasonDKnott How long does the 3911 processing take, and how can we validate the IRS received our request?
If you owe the IRS money would you still get the stimulus?
I didn't! I owed and didn't get the last stimulus. I just paid off my taxes and sending this 3911 Form to hopefully receive it soon.
Even if you have past due tax debts, you are still supposed to receive a stimulus check. Stimulus checks are phased out if your income is above the thresholds.
@@JasonDKnott I didn't get my last two stimulus checks. Is there a form to file for my last two stimulus checks?

Thank you.
Yes it will mark the box that u received the check and it was lost you should have been able to claim it as a rebate if u filed last year or this year
My friend is filing this but he is in county jail, and will be going to prison, dont know when or where. What would we put as his address? Should he sent a letter with it saying whats going on? Because how will they know where to send the new check
Thinking he might get moved to a new facility by the time they respond
The IRS published IRS Notice 1444-D which addresses how persons who are incarcerated would apply for stimulus checks.
Hi Nancy what ended up happening with this case ? I’m going through the same right now
If my wife and I didn't receive EIP3 and we had a baby in June 2021, would we qualify for 3x $1400 payments?
So helpful thank you!!

I misplaced my $600 stimulus check but fortunately, I found it BEFORE it expired.
I tried getting it cashed BEFORE the one year expiration date but was unable to do so because all the places I went to refused to cash it because it was almost expired (7 days BEFORE the one year expiration date).
They said that they don't cash refund checks because of so much fraud going on and even though the check is still valid at that point, they don't want to chance cashing it
I told them it's legit! It has a watermark on it!
They still refused to cash it....
When I file 3911, do I send in this $600 stimulus check? I endorsed it on the back when I first attempted to cash it. So I'm s little confused about Line 9 on Form 3911.
Please reply at your earliest convenience.

Same Problem. Just called IRS said to fill out 3911
This is good to know because it happened to me too and I can’t get anyone from the irs to answer my questions
Do we fill out the first section of the form ??????? Section before section 1
The first section of the Form is not completed by the taxpayer. The first section is generally only completed by the IRS if they mail you a Form 3911 in advance. If you are completing your own Form 3911 from scratch, you leave the first section blank.
where does the SSN go
Next to the taxpayers name in the "Taxpayer Identification Number" field
If i am filing for someone as their representative do i sign number 13 as me or them i am his power of attorney so i can sign is name but whose names goes on 13

Yes, you can call the IRS and request a payment trace, or file the Form 3911. I would contact the IRS first to discuss the issue. The IRS agent over the phone might be able to provide more information before you file the Form 3911.
