... How did I do this so well when I was only 8/6? (I can't remember which.) In fact, I haven't played it since then. Wonder how well I'll do now that I'm older and understand games better........
@@kalm_live same, and the fact that you have to reach a checkpoint (which isn’t that hard) to even keep it if you die is even more outrageous, I got a game over after getting it for the first time on the DS and I was so pissed, because I started with 28 lives and ended with a game over.
While I absolutely HATED this mine cart level, you have to admit the sheer genius design of this level! The collapsing crystal ceilings, the mole throwing bombs at you, and the final secion of riding a circular section of rail across a downward sloping grade of crystal was brilliant. Whoever thought up and designed this level was really good, but also really twisted in the head. 😂
Am I the only person that had trouble ducking at the beginning? For some reason my controller wouldn't respond or something, because Donkey Kong just wouldn't duck!
Great job!! Im just replaying some of these old games. On this level - I find that whenever I have to duck, Donkey Kong wont 'stay down'! He keeps popping up out of his cart into the rocks. So frustrating...
Everyone’s talking how much a pain in the ass getting the letter “O” is. That’s a walk in the park for me, but what always kills me is that SMALL JUMP at 1:12 mostly because of how sensitive my jump button is on my remote. I’ve recently began re-playing Returns with a friend of mine who has never touched the game and I had to go through this fucking hell myself during our playthrough
This game is pure awesomeness. Retro Studios did Metroid and now Donkey Kong. They can't do anything wrong! Let them have Star Fox and Zelda too! Even Mario!
@BLUELINKBR The game is generous on livs specifically because you will be dying alot. I never got the luxury of playing Diddy's Kong Quest or Dixie's Double Trouble, but I do know this game is alot harder then Donkey Kong Country 1. I know that for certain.
@metaXzero But the difference is that DKCR has an auto save feature, the DKC from SNES you had to get a coin on the stage and go to a save point, and if you hasn't reached the save point from that world yet you can't return to another world to save, so you had to be careful to not lose so much lifes. But still, I think I died, like, 40 times per stage in some stages just because I tried to get all kong letters and puzzle pieces that I could find, otherwise I think I would not have died that much
I wish SEGA would do a Sonic game in the same vein of the mine cart levels in DKCR - constant running through crazy, challenging obstacles courses - but that's apparently not What Sonic is About™. Oh well, I prefer this game over Colors and Generations, anyway.
@BLUELINKBR It varies from person to person since we are all different and handle situations differently. And for most of what I've seen with people's reactions, DKCR is right there in difficulty with DKC1 if not harder (though probably not DKC2 level).
@BLUELINKBR But in DCKR (to me), their are more levels where the path to that checkpoint will eat your lives. I just can't look at DCKR and say its say difficulty pales in comparison to DKC1. Ever since game's stopped restarting you at the beginning of the game, the live system in general just seemed pointless unless the game made you work for the checkpoint. Which I never felt worked in DKC1 getting to the star barrel but did in DKCR getting to that pig. In the end though, it varies--
@BLUELINKBR All that happens when you lose all your lives is a game over screen and having to start the level you died repeatedly on from the beginning instead of a checkpoint (or if you never got to the checkpoint, nothing happened besides getting a new set of lives). In most levels for DKC1, getting to the checkpoint wasn't that hard. So if you end up burning through your lives past that, you don't have to worry that much about getting to that point of the level again much--
hate this because im getting it for christmas and its ruining it for me :( but might as well spoil it since you have the whole game on here already! :D
@bobby2643 It never drove me to my last life... but, by the end of it, I had died 37 times! LOL. Mainly trying to get all puzzle pieces and KONG letters, but still lol.
omg me and my brother tried to beat this level and for us its fricking impossible for us. I HATE THIS LEVEL. you need to come to my house and beat it for us
@BLUELINKBR I've played DKC1 as late as last month. Its either my muscle memory remaining with me all these years or the game is easier then DKCR. Because I don't lose as many lives in DKC1 as DKCR. I actually do prefer to shops where you buy multiple lives though over DKC1's stacking lives by revisiting certain level though :p
@metaXzero I think is your muscle memory lol . But the problem is that this game WOULD be difficult if it was not the number of lives you have during the gameplay (c'mon, the first time I completed golden temple I was with 999 lives and 999 coins), you die a lot, and if the game reseted all of your lives to 5 everytime you turn on the VG it would be difficult, but it doesn't, so I was able to finish this game with 100% is less than 15 hours =P (and I've never beated in 100% any other DKC game) .
@KevinPhil1990 yeah, well i didn't even get those -_- i am pretty bad at getting secrets, but it hurts my pride to get a game over (because this is a lot easier than the original) and i had to keep it up i refused to use the super kong on my last life in world 5... stupid move...T_T
OMG! Thumbs Up if this INSANE level drove you to the last life! I h8ed this one!! btw, AlphaAxl should join Nintendo and play for super guides! (thumbs up if you think so)
@bobby2643 haha, fair enough man. By like, mid-way through world 5, I was like 'fuck these collectibles' lol and just concetrated on getting through the game haha fair enough. I hate seeing a game over screen too. It makes you feel like shit lol. screw the super kong. I never use that. It's like the game's saying 'you suck, let me do it.' and I'm like, NO! lol
@metaXzero I think you are just too much time without playing side scrollers, seriously, I think that DKC returns is way easier than all the other DK, specially because of the number of lifes.
This level is a pain in the ass. World 4 in general is pretty difficult; I think the developers got a little over ambitious with it. Still a great game though.

guys, c'mon, this game is incredibly easy compared to the others DKC, some stages in fact are difficult but you always have more than 40 lifes remaining on this game LOL, and still they are not as hard as DKC2 and some worlds of DKC.
Diddy Kong: Uh oh.
Donkey Kong: Don't tell me. We're going on a crazy mine cart ride.
Diddy Kong: Yep.
Donkey Kong: Razor sharp jewels ahead?
Diddy Kong: Most likely.
Donkey Kong: Bring it on.
Amazing music for such a chaotic level.
That mother fucking letter O.
donkey kong is the biggest giga chad for doing all this to save his island
That damn O is IMPOSSIBLE on the 3DS version...
Its the same thing.
The level design is the same
Also in the 3ds version you can equip vehicle crash on new mode
*laughs in 99 lives to 28 lives*
Unbelievably hard
No it's not, you just need to time your jump better
@@bandicootsmwcentral2950 It is the same in design but the FPS is 30 and that means you have to be absolutely frame perfect.
I had 79 lives walking into this level. I left with 8 -_-
We were all lost before the invention of Crash Guard.
... How did I do this so well when I was only 8/6? (I can't remember which.) In fact, I haven't played it since then. Wonder how well I'll do now that I'm older and understand games better........
Bruh if that’s how it went for you I’m fucked. I only have 4 fucking lives left. This game is hard.
Same but had 99 live and left with 0
I had 1 million and left with 1
This is the only minecart level in the Cave where Donkey Kong jumps with the minecart, rather than separately from it.
That bonus stage is really anticlimactic after the amazingly difficult level.
I'm telling you...I've spent FIVE YEARS trying to get the *O* letter on the 3DS version, and I still haven't got it.
how about now
FIVE YEARS???!?!?!
I didn't have the 3ds version I have the wii version it was easy as hell.
i swear to god, getting that O is nearly impossible
i just got it after spending at least +20 lives 💀
@@kalm_live same, and the fact that you have to reach a checkpoint (which isn’t that hard) to even keep it if you die is even more outrageous, I got a game over after getting it for the first time on the DS and I was so pissed, because I started with 28 lives and ended with a game over.
Amazing design
It is good, but not amazing
Ragnar Ahlman it is great though.
Sarcasm?
This level absolutely COOKED me and my brother when we were kids. We prolly died like 100 times (half us killing eachother)
I used to think those moles in the mine carts were blond guys with a pipe
Now I’ve learned there moles
I thought they were koalas
You misspelled the name of the level. It's not spelled "Bombs Away", it's spelled "Crystal Hell".
@Joss Miller That was a joke.
how did you do that 0:40 i keep dying x_X
While I absolutely HATED this mine cart level, you have to admit the sheer genius design of this level! The game is easy to get lives but after stages like this - your gonna need them!
this level is killing me
I CANT DO THIS!!!
This is taking all my lives lol
getting that O is insane i got it by luck.
fu*king funny at 1:32 XD
1:32
Hands down my favorite level from this game!
Damn this is tough therefore unlikeablr
Am I the only person that had trouble ducking at the beginning? For some reason my controller wouldn't respond or something, because Donkey Kong just wouldn't duck!
Maybe the controller just needed new batteries =P
how do you pass 0:31?
The sound design here is top notch
I especially love the part at 0:47
Thanks now I can past the level!
Is it just me, or does the music here remind anyone of Hideout Helm (at least, that's what I think it was), the last level in Donkey Kong 64?
Great job!! Im just replaying some of these old games. On this level - I find that whenever I have to duck, Donkey Kong wont 'stay down'! He keeps popping up out of his cart into the rocks. So frustrating...
People are saying this is really hard but I personally found it pretty easy except for the O letter that was hard everything else with relatively easy
Same here, but god damn that O
The first time I played this, I lost TWO lives, and ONE wasn't even on the cart!
Everyone’s talking how much a pain in the ass getting the letter “O” is. That’s a walk in the park for me, but what always kills me is that SMALL JUMP at 1:12 mostly because of how sensitive my jump button is on my remote.

This level and the bat level need to burn in hell
thanks i was getting so mad at this level
Even though this comment is 8 months old, I like your idea.
I always fail to do the jump in second 31 I´ve tried the legel 56 times and die there... is it a glitch?
You have to tap the jump button to do a light jump. Holding it too long will make him jump higher.
When I was 9, I used to hate this level for how difficult it was. Now, I definitely don’t mind it, especially now that crash guard is a thing.
beating this level feels like finally taking the biggest shit of all time 😊
This game is pure awesomeness. Retro Studios did Metroid and now Donkey Kong. They can't do anything wrong! Let them have Star Fox and Zelda too! Even Mario!
how do you do the jump at 0:31 ? I keep jumping too high and hitting the crystals. Someone please give me an explanation.
Shannon Taylor too
You short jump
Dude the musoc is so badass
You made it look so easy that run! But I'm willing to bet it was anything but. XD
how r you so good? wow
I credit you for my actually beating this level (:
@BLUELINKBR
The game is generous on livs specifically because you will be dying alot.
