G&L Custom Shop JB - Best bass I've ever owned. Picked up a bass that had been sold to/traded in at Guitar Center. I mistook it for a Geddy Signature JB because it looked cosmetically just like the Signature bass he used on the R30 tour. As I took it off the wall I saw the G&L bridge and that the neck and finger board were both quarter-sawn. Plays like a dream and sounds even better.
I highly recommend G&L custom shop.

This is 4 years after this post, but about 12-13 years ago, I made a triple p-90 Strat. It was my first USA Strat and was a '91 back when they used a swimming pool route. I ordered two different custom pickguards (tortoise and white) from Warmoth. I still have the Strat (hanging behind me right now) and it's great - and very different from my others, as well as my awesome Fullerton HSS Legacy.

I've been playing for many years. My first 'real' guitar was a new '76 Tele. The neck pickup was almost uselessly microphonic. They re-dipped it, but it only partially helped. I preferred Strats overall, so virtually everything I got after that was NOT a Tele.
FF to about 10 years ago, and my Fullerton Deluxe ASAT Classic turned me back to Teles again. I also love my Les Pauls and SGs, but on a desert island, I'm a G&L (25.5") style guitarist.

I have 2 custom order (not custom shop) G&Ls - a Legacy and an ASAT Classic S (alnico) and they're great guitars. I wanted to get the Classic S with the saddle-lock bridge, but they wouldn't do it. (I think the Tele pickups requires special grounding which can't be done on the saddle-lock bridge, but maybe they just wouldn't do it.) Got both of them through Music Store Live and they provided great service. As an added bonus, both guitars were very competitively priced vis-a-vis their Fender counterparts. I also have -4 other 3-bolt neck G&Ls from the mid-90s: 2 ASAT Specials and 2 ASAT IIIs.

@Taaleek I suggest you go to G&L's site - glguitars.com - and spec out what you want and send it to MSL and request a quote. Both my guitars were less than their Fender American Player(?) ;equivalents. One thing I hate about Fender is that they keep sub-dividing their product line. There are now 47 versions of Strats available and it's not worth it to compare them all to find what you want.

Does G&L custom shop have an option to sort for dark rosewood fretboard? I desperately want a guitar with dark consistent rosewood fingerboard with very little to almost no light streaks

Speaking of services.., Why doesn't G&L offer pickguard choices to their Tribute Series Customers?
I wouldn't change anything on my JB Tribute Bass, 3 Tone Sunburst Bass, because it's perfect...
... I would just like to swap out the pickguard to give it a little splash in aesthetics with a pinch of color.
It would be nice to have an option.
I'm looking for an Aged Pearl White Pickguard.

I am not a fan of custom shops. It leads to choice paralysis and the belief that picking on little details is going to make a guitar sound better. This is not the case. Also, while the customer has a lot of options, they often do not understand by experience how it would make a better guitar. What I would like to see is, that a brand finishes every guitar to the very same level, and since they are the experts, offer only what really works. I do own a G&L guitar, a 2008 usa legacy. It's great as it is, it's a HSS, no fancy anything, just clearcoat ash, but the neck and the playability kicks most other guitars out of the water, so why do you need a custom shop ? to cater to people who want something different ? Honestly, i think a lot of it is marketing. My best sounding guitars are quite plain, nothing fancy, just the people who made it knew how to select the right stuff. i fear the day that I order a custom shop guitar, only to find out it's not quite as good as the secondhand standard model i got for 700$. So my question is, how do customers know if they order a custom shop guitar, how they quantify how much better it is than something you can get for a lot less money ?

DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS STORE. They sold me a "Brand new Sire V7" that had post-factory work done on the preamp, it was NOT a Heritage 3 like it was listed on their Reverb ad. When I messaged them to ask what the hell was going on, they refused to work with me and told me my warranty was voided because the poorly soldered connections immediately came undone. It was considered an "alteration", which voided their 30 day return policy. DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS MANUFACTUROR IF YOU DON'T WANT TO RISK GETTING A USED BASS INSTEAD OF A NEW ONE AND THEN BEING BLAMED FOR CHECKING TO SEE IF IT WAS ACTUALLY NEW OR NOT.

Shorts. You may have heard of them. Not ghetto shorts... real shorts. You know, like people used to wear before ghetto shorts got popular.
