After looking into it a bit, I dont see why you wouldn't just do fireball fireblast pyro pyro after shifting, then phoenix flame after that instead. I believe it used to be the other way around because of feel the burn maintenance but now that PF maintains it for us, its ok to do this way around instead. It's more optimal for fire blast charges as with high enough haste and double lust you end up capping charges or wasting a charge!
I am very careful about using those words LOL but yeah I was doing ~10% more damage than the sim was doing so I think it was warranted. Im working w some people on the mage discord to help update the sims to be more optimal!

It's very normal for them not to crit and in that case you just need to do pf pf. Make sure you utilize DB and such as well. If you check my rashok and magmo commentaries you'll see this in a more organic setting =)
Tl;dr is manage your PF better. 95% of your SKB's generated outside of combust do not require you to press fire blast. Check part 3 or any of the recent commentaries to see examples of this.
So, any guesses what will be the premiere M+ mage spec? I'm not even talking about world first keys, but more what will be played more in 18-22 keys? What will have easier time in PuGs dealing damage, my guess is Frost, but will it be by much? Will newly found AoE burst on Frost along with relative ease of use compared to Fire just make it so that you are intentionally making your life harder for no real actual gain? I guess I don't mind playing Frost as long as Glacial Spike is the go to talent in both M+ and Raid otherwise that spec is just not interesting.
PS: Before this video I actually never understood why sometimes I would fire of instant Pyroblast and then again have another instant cast. Fought that Scorch would just get munched and basically have 3 heating up procs with one of them going to waste, but I actually was Heating Up + Fireblast => 1 Pyro and Scorch + 1 Pyro => 2 Pyro. Before I always fought that Scorch was instant and that it hit before first Pyro was sent out.
Its hard to say for sure quite yet. All 3 specs have strong AoE profiles but M+ is more than just aoe sims so I dont want to say anything that might be incorrect until I play keys myself. I'd tell you that you can play anything as of rn and most likely in the 18-22 range, its best to focus on your own gameplay and proficiency with each spec as opposed to meta chasing since people in that range are often not playing that great
somehow, my heating up scorch > FB > PB > PB combo is not working, unlike the fireball one even without lust, i am playing with 130 ms, so maybe it has to do with that since scorch have a quicker travel time than fireball?

I’m confused about the very start of the rotation. I know the first pyro crits, then FB crit, now we have a instant pyro, but this instant pyro shouldn’t crit (without a combust active) right?

@@haorob Fire is not using the fire starter talent in our AOE build. We are flame striking on 3+ targets with flame patch in Mythic+. So you are using flame strike pack to pack, using combust on CD, and treating your SKB procs the same way you would on single target for the most part. most of your damage in a dungeon should be flame strike, ignite, and flame patch.
Don't you think your combust uptime is very inflated and your fireball casts outside of combust are so low, because you are fighting a training dummy? You showed 5 sequences, where you leave the SKB with 5 stacks, and then immediately have another one prepped because 3 phoenix flames are enough as all your Pyros crit with firestarter against the training dummy. In reality those Pyros only have a like 30% crit chance with one point in critical mass - then you need to use all your Phoenix Flames charges + 3 fire blast charges if you are unlucky, or cast a boatload of fireballs fishing for crits. The worst case in your video was one of your pyros not critting, which would still be very lucky with 30% critrate.
firestarter only works above 90% hp. The dummy is always below 90% HP, I even have to swap targets so i can get a normal firestarter at the pull. its not inflated at all for sure

hey, just rerolled to mage for my guild for next tier and i was almost upset how bad the mage guides were, especially on fire and arcane, atleast in my opinion. the guides are essentially just dropping some priorities in front of you with almost no explanation at all why you're doing x in scenario y, on top of leaving out some scenarios even i as a complete mage beginner could come up with. you're not just explaining what you do and rather going into detail WHY you should do something and covering scnearios that aren't obvious. this is much more valuable information than just blindly learning a priority list. trying to follow your advice on pf management pretty much instantly gave me an increase of about 10% in pyro casts and got me from 50% combustion uptime to 55-56% and there is still a lot of room for improvement, i think. really appreciate the effort you've put into this very detailed and thoughtful guide, thank you!

Pf is a guaranteed crit without combust when talented into AF so every pf cast in combust is wasting a second in combust. You're not losing out on PF damage anyway if PF is not capping CD logically
Thanks for the content, I feel like most dps specs are so convoluted in how they do damage these days but this fire rework seems to be on the right track with simplifying the gameplay a bit, even if it is still complex.

In combust they are guaranteed to crit. It's just basic hot streak stuff i think you might be overthinking it but maybe im misunderstanding your confusion.
While I don't disagree that mage is still more advanced that other specs, keep in mind that the information that I share is the way to play to get actual rank 1s (this is all the info I use to play fire at the highest level). Most guides dont share this level of detail so it may appear worse than it is!

This is something a sim would be better at finding out tbh. It doesn't sound terrible but I wouldnt sweat it. If you follow the SKB sequences you wont be in that situation ever unless its a long extended combustion and most of the time it wont happen anyway.

When I'm about to hardcast a pyroblast to trigger the SKB while having a heating up buff, if I cast Shifting Power I'll end up wasting one SKB stack because I want to throw a fire blast while channeling Shifting Power. In this case, should I forget about maintaining the Feel the Burn buff? I'm not sure what's the best choice to minimize the dps loss.
You shouldnt be in this situation ever. You shouldnt need to cast shifting power when you have 8 SKB stacks. If youre in this position then you probably needed to make a different decision prior to that situation. The only reason to ever cast shifting power in that situation is if you have absolutely 0 fire blast going into SKB but that shouldnt happen ever unless uve made big mistakes prior to 8 SKB stacks. As a general rule of thumb though, you do not maintain feel the burn if you lose something else in return. Wasting a heating up or an SKB stack is worse than dropping feel the burn by a good margin. Feel the burn is one of the weakest buffs we have as fire mage since its only 6% mastery and nothing else and its very easy to stack up again

As for execute you don't really play around "combos" as much as u do play like normal but weaving in scorches more eagerly outside of combusts too since they are guaranteed crit. In execute its safe to say you can PF in combust a lot more and instead use scorch to bridge SKB.
these combos are to be done while combust is active. because of this they are going to crit as all our spells crit while in combustion. These combos are not to be done outside bust as for the exact reason you stated, you cannot guarantee anything but the fire blast will crit.
In M+ you have a lot of PF charges from the CDR but a lot less from the 4pc so its a bit of a balancing act. Since we can hardcast flamestrike its not as bad as hardcasting fireball on ST. I'd imagine playing with this playstyle in AoE and just replacing pyro with flamestrike should still be quite powerful

I am new to fire mage. I am really dont enjoying proc classes in generall. But would like to try your playstile. But when firestarter is not proccing, i am screwed... When i see your sequence @24:30 it proccing perfectly, but @24:40 it is not. When did you decided that u had to use a sec PF to get the hot streak? As far as i understood, u never wait till a spell hits 🤔
@@FunkyChicken0815 Not sure why you mention firestarter, firestarter is not a proc, its a talent that makes spells above 90% HP guarantee a crit. Below 90% HP (which is basically after 10s on a raid boss), it will never do anything again. As for 24:40, I fire a pyro, and then cast a PF, and the pyro lands as I throw my PF out and i will know and have 1 second to react before my GCD from PF is done to decide whether i should PF again or do something else. There is no guessing. I threw a Pyro then I know i will cast atleast 1 PF, so i fire PF, and before i even press PF most likely, or as i press it, the pyro lands and i get a crit or not. If i get a crit i will cast pyro again, if i dont i will cast PF again. Fire mage isnt really a "proc" class. Procs imply that its random or RNG, you can predict everything that will happen with fire with 100% accuracy 1-2s seconds before, and when youre really good you can predict it up to 20s ahead of time which is what this video tries to explain. Planning and managing your resources ahead of time to figure out your plan after current combust, for how to get to next combust before your current one even ends.
great guide, thanks for that. I still have something to ask: how do we open in fights without double lust at pull and in fights where we cant reach the first SKB before the boss drops below 90% (m+ bosses for example)?
That's a great question. I think a lot of it depends on circumstances and such. My general rule of thumb is if I can get to 8 (by entering with few stacks), I utilize firestarter. Otherwise, usually its better to just press combust and get things rolling ^^. This might change in 10.1.5 but I think getting combust on CD and fast rolling SKB stacks thanks to fiery charge is quite valuable still! It's a more advanced/nuanced question I think so I'm sorry I couldn't give you a straight up answer. The nice part of it is, you can probably either build stacks or combust straight away and its likely to be fine still!
I always had problems with this as well as I just started fire mage this patch but with the removal of rune of power it should feel a lot less punishing to use combust on lower total hp mobs above 90% because you aren't worried about wasting your rune. You also don't have to worry about overlapping the rune from combust with the normal one for the sake of guaranteed crits anymore.
I have the exact same question. For mythic packs by pack, I’m going to use my combust for bigger packs and line it up to be up again for next boss. But generally, I would never be able to get full SKB from an average mob pack.
@@haorob You shouldnt hold combustion that much tbh in keys. As long as the pack will live your combust, you should just send it for sure. Combusts beget other combusts, and we get up to a 50-60% uptime of combust when done right. You shouldnt be holding off combusts that much really
@@brkus2665 It's because we get so much free crit in our kit to not make us reliant on getting good gear and stats ^^ We have 2 abilities that are guaranteed crit and fairly short CD, and a 50-60% uptime buff which makes all our spells crit. Alongside this scorch in execute is a guaranteed crit, and even things like hyperthermia make every pyro a guaranteed crit! So the design is good and the lack of reliance on gear is also good =)!

A lot of the times following sims is a good idea. Diverging from the sims is very risky and usually requires A LOOT of double checking and making sure nothing is skewing data. For reference, I've done about 80-100 5min tests on a dummy to verify I didnt have lucky rng or something and have gone through multiple checks for biases or skews including having friends that also raid in high guilds to check my findings! Luckily, as someone who loves TC and have been raiding at the highest levels for a long time I get to say stuff against the sims and people can believe me :D! Having said all this, there is no reason for people to be toxic but I do agree that discord servers can sometimes be misleading because you don't know who is replying to you in terms of their reliability etc.

It has nothing to do with travel time or anything like that, its probably just your spell queue.
Make sure your spell queue is at 400

Firestarter makes FB and PB crit above 90%, so we will always crit on every FB and PB in our opener before combustion

SKB = Sun King's Blessing. Spending SKB = hard casting a pyro at 8 stacks so that you get 6s of combust (read the Sun King's Blessing talent)

your spell queue is likely too low or you are not pressing fast enough. Its likely teh former

I am new to fire mage. I am really dont enjoying proc classes in generall. But would like to try your playstile.
But when firestarter is not proccing, i am screwed... When i see your sequence @24:30 it proccing perfectly, but @24:40 it is not. When did you decided that u had to use a sec PF to get the hot streak? As far as i understood, u never wait till a spell hits 🤔
Or does this logic doesnt apply to skb bridging and u wait till the maybe crit spell hits?
@@FunkyChicken0815 Not sure why you mention firestarter, firestarter is not a proc, its a talent that makes spells above 90% HP guarantee a crit. Below 90% HP (which is basically after 10s on a raid boss), it will never do anything again.
As for 24:40, I fire a pyro, and then cast a PF, and the pyro lands as I throw my PF out and i will know and have 1 second to react before my GCD from PF is done to decide whether i should PF again or do something else. There is no guessing. I threw a Pyro then I know i will cast atleast 1 PF, so i fire PF, and before i even press PF most likely, or as i press it, the pyro lands and i get a crit or not. If i get a crit i will cast pyro again, if i dont i will cast PF again.
Fire mage isnt really a "proc" class. Procs imply that its random or RNG, you can predict everything that will happen with fire with 100% accuracy 1-2s seconds before, and when youre really good you can predict it up to 20s ahead of time which is what this video tries to explain. Planning and managing your resources ahead of time to figure out your plan after current combust, for how to get to next combust before your current one even ends.

I still have something to ask: how do we open in fights without double lust at pull and in fights where we cant reach the first SKB before the boss drops below 90% (m+ bosses for example)?
That's a great question. I think a lot of it depends on circumstances and such. My general rule of thumb is if I can get to 8 (by entering with few stacks), I utilize firestarter. Otherwise, usually its better to just press combust and get things rolling ^^. This might change in 10.1.5 but I think getting combust on CD and fast rolling SKB stacks thanks to fiery charge is quite valuable still!
It's a more advanced/nuanced question I think so I'm sorry I couldn't give you a straight up answer. The nice part of it is, you can probably either build stacks or combust straight away and its likely to be fine still!
I always had problems with this as well as I just started fire mage this patch but with the removal of rune of power it should feel a lot less punishing to use combust on lower total hp mobs above 90% because you aren't worried about wasting your rune. You also don't have to worry about overlapping the rune from combust with the normal one for the sake of guaranteed crits anymore.

I have the exact same question. For mythic packs by pack, I’m going to use my combust for bigger packs and line it up to be up again for next boss. But generally, I would never be able to get full SKB from an average mob pack.
@@haorob You shouldnt hold combustion that much tbh in keys. As long as the pack will live your combust, you should just send it for sure. Combusts beget other combusts, and we get up to a 50-60% uptime of combust when done right. You shouldnt be holding off combusts that much really

Haste > vers >= mastery > crit. But just sim your items bceause ilevel always wins
@@Forgyy you need crits to make your Pyros instant -> crit is the worst stat for fire mage. #Blizzard.
@@brkus2665 It's because we get so much free crit in our kit to not make us reliant on getting good gear and stats ^^ We have 2 abilities that are guaranteed crit and fairly short CD, and a 50-60% uptime buff which makes all our spells crit. Alongside this scorch in execute is a guaranteed crit, and even things like hyperthermia make every pyro a guaranteed crit! So the design is good and the lack of reliance on gear is also good =)!

A lot of the times following sims is a good idea. Diverging from the sims is very risky and usually requires A LOOT of double checking and making sure nothing is skewing data. For reference, I've done about 80-100 5min tests on a dummy to verify I didnt have lucky rng or something and have gone through multiple checks for biases or skews including having friends that also raid in high guilds to check my findings!
Luckily, as someone who loves TC and have been raiding at the highest levels for a long time I get to say stuff against the sims and people can believe me :D!
Having said all this, there is no reason for people to be toxic but I do agree that discord servers can sometimes be misleading because you don't know who is replying to you in terms of their reliability etc.
