- Rescue workers in Ukraine on Tuesday scrambled to find survivors of a Russian missile strike on a busy shopping mall in Kremenchuk.
More than a dozen people were killed when two missiles struck the mall in Kremenchuk on Monday.
While firefighters and soldiers sifted through rubble, medical workers tended to the injured.
The public hospital is treating 25 patients, some of them in critical condition.
This husband and wife were shopping at an electronics store when the blast hit.
WOUNDED TRAIN STATION WORKER, LUDMYLA MYKHAILETS:
"I flew head first and splinters hit my body. The whole place was collapsing. Then I landed on the floor and I don’t know if I was conscious or unconscious.”
WOUNDED PATIENT, MYKOLA MYKHAILETS:
"I saw lots of wounded people, burned people, some were covered in blood. One girl fell down and we helped pull her along. She fell and lost consciousness but we tried to help her.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has called the attack a 'calculated strike.'
He said around 1,000 people were in the mall at the time.
Not all of them have been accounted for.
At a hotel near the mall, people lined up to register the names of those who are still missing -- about 40, so far.
"I was working and I heard the explosion and I saw the fire. I put my friends name on the list, but we have no information whether he is alive or not.”
Witnesses said an air raid siren had sounded the alarm ahead of the attack.
But shops remained open.
The mall’s management had recently changed the rules, allowing them to do so.
Russia had yet to comment on the strike by early Tuesday.
It calls its invasion of Ukraine a ‘special operation’.
Meanwhile, Leaders of the Group of Seven major democracies have raised an outcry, calling the strike "abominable."
They’ve promised nearly $30 billion in new aid for Kyiv.

Just despicable. Russia is a terrorist state. I watched a video yesterday, it showed the body of one young boy, totally burnt. His father walked over to the body bag next to this massive bomb, he kneeled down to look, opened the zip, saw it was his son and he just put his head in his hands. You could feel his heartbreak. Imagine this was your child. This has been replicated all over Ukraine. The sexual assaults they've carried out on women, children and even men, the looting, throwing them in mass graves, the torture. Just beyond disgusting what they've done.

Now a few days later let's consider the various footage shown. The debris of the burning shopping unit and smoking remains of the building said to have been the targeted hit is clearly a steel clad building. The shots of the internal show a clear area, no debris whatsoever. Consider the images of the shockwave of the missile hit and its effect on a nearby pond and pedestrians walking nearby, thrown to the ground. If the shop was the target and strike area it would have been demolished and not burning. Let's not forget the front parking area was clear of debris and the famous 'blue car was undamaged. Drone footage of the destroyed building shows rooftop blast damage to a traditional concrete roofed building. Even the report deceptively reports locations of civilian injuries not directly associated. A clearer drone long shot clearly shows 2 buildings. A stone/concrete building with massive blast damage with a burnt out steel clad building in the foreground. Even 2 such missiles wouldn't have caused the explosion provided as evidence. Something else, very big, went bang. So far Ukrainian government versions on all such event have been debunked - perhaps the reason why they've lost traction in their reporting.

because we have several air alarms each day. some people get used to this. when the rocket starts, noone knows where it will hit. it can hit any city. so people get used already to constant air alarms and keep doing their activities.

There is no military facitilities 10 km around. Shopping centre was fully functioning, fortunately people had a few minutes to leave the building after the air raid alarm.

Shopping continues, in fact has to contine, to support the provision of necessities. Thus, any example of two countries within artillery (including rocket and missile) reach would have sufficed. You, sir, are nitpicking and avoiding the key point that Putin prefers to target civilians, including women and children, which are the actions of a coward.

Ukraine placed an ammunition depot near that mall. Cruise missiles hit that ammunition depot (an absolutely legitimate target). The mall caught fire from the detonation of ammunition. Zelensky regime just again was using civilians as a human shield.
