The 1997 landcruiser Prado GX , i drive the same car. The very first edition model. My father bought it in 1997 when i was in grade 2 (7 years old) . I am now 32 years old working with 2 kids and i drive the same car, that my dad bought in 97 because of frequenting our his village home in N.eastern kenya, dadaab, which had the roughest roads to drive in the country. Very tough and no signs of slowing down. This car is the 1st toyota that came with independent front suspension. Alot of people ask me to sell it to them, but, they don't know this is the car i grew up with as a kid, learning to drive with it, stealing and crashing it at 13 years old etc. This is the toughest SUV i know in the world.
Plus, this video is a joke that Toyota made to the Land Rover guys , where a 20 year old prado beats the recently launched defender which is pointless unless your a person looking to look good in a rover in the uk or elsewhere

Look up Suzuki Grand Vitara TDi...I think US market had them as the Sidekick(?).Early models had Mazda sourced turbo diesel engines whereas the model I had used a Peugeot sourced one.Had issues with that engine till the day it got sold.But when it ran without troubles,it was both economical AND powerful.Still miss it a bit even despite it's issues. 😅

Didn't really shoot themselves in the foot, rather, they got an opportunity to show off how capable and "cool" their cars were depicted in the movie. JLR wanted to send a message to the audience that says 'hey, if you wanna look cool, drive a Land Rover'. Because in the movie the Land Rovers were driven by the villains, and as we all know, supervillains are always the coolest characters in a movie. And I think in that they succeeded. Most people (who aren't into cars on a deeper level) will go home thinking that Land Rovers are cool and will thus want to buy one. So at the end of the day, both the LC fanbase and JLR are happy. The LC enthusiasts are happy b/c the Land Cruiser technically won, and JLR is happy b/c their cars were successfully depicted as 'cool'.
Plenty of films have depicted Bond coming out on top against more powerful, superior cars, e.g. the 2CV/504 chase in For Your Eyes Only. It's always implied that 007's superior driving skills, plus a healthy dose of luck, tip the odds in his favour. Plus, the audience likes to be reminded that Bond is a very capable agent, able to think quickly and work with whatever resources he has to hand, rather than always rely on a heavily-armed supercar.
I recently purchased a Prado-Landcruiser as a whisky cask hauler for my new business purely based off this scene. Plus the 4 litre V6 is legendary for it's reliability and unkillable nature.

I own this truck with 330,000 kms , bulletproof level 3, 20 years , rides like a freaking Bentley … there is no way to describe it , this truck is just lovely , simple to repair and maintain, a design that doesn’t age , frescking bulletproof !! The engine has never been repaired , doesn’t need to, not even the cylinder rings changed , nada , it just works perfectly . I love it
