Every SJ presentation is a masterclass. It's part business lesson, part marketing presentation, 100% sales. Makes me want to go out and buy one 17 years later.
I work in electronics recycling, and someone brought one of these into my workplace the other day in great working condition. Now it's mine, and it's a fun little toy.
He had the ability to convince (or make believe) that what they did was the best... despite having defects. In this same presentation, a few minutes ago, he mentions as "negative" MP3 players with displays that were too small... and ends up presenting a player that didn't even have a display! And that didn't allow you to choose what you wanted to listen to!... because it had "the magic of surprising you with a random song"! 😂
This is how you take over a market, you break the rules. The Flash MP3's had smaller and smaller screens. Jobs turns and says ''forget the screen, lets do it this way''. The man was a genius.
240 songs isn't a lot in 2022, but you know what, for a camping trip or even a ski trip, these things are perfect. I think I have mine laying around somewhere, and it still works.
To THIS day I still love this shuffle. that built in USB is one of the best things ever. I effing hate the 3.5 to USB cable or dock from all the other generations. The 2nd gen was good too with the clip, the third one with no button was a stupid failure, the current/4th gen is also stupid because you almost always push a button when you squeeze to open the clip. I love the nano touchscreen, but simple buttons is just so easy to work with.
I had one of these back then and I just found it in a drawer I havent touched in years. I looked it up to see what year it was from and its so old Steve Jobs was doing presentations on it! Great piece of tech for its time!
And you can clearly see it from the the design of the new iPod nano :p (true). I think that the success of Apple is also down to these presentations Steve Jobs did, and not just some commercials and that's it. He had passion. Rest in Peace, you deserve it.
The iPod Nano is for those who wanted a shuffle with a screen. Hell now it's about the same size as the shuffle. The shuffle is nice but I can't imagine getting another one. I have the first gen 512MB one and it's great for a small collection of music or for running or whatnot.
8:40. Woah. Jesus Christ. In that moment, he effectively KILLED the competition. MORE storage. BETTER interface? LOWER cost!? Honestly it would have gotten a cheer from me just being the SAME price for more features, but to go and price them BELOW the competition? Incredible.
Tim is running Apple into the ground. 0 innovation, completely ignoring PRO users. Every product line is completely fucked either by removal of ports or oudated hardware.
Rafael HD Ojeda Ah but that’s not my point, my point is that if you think Steve is innovative, so is Apple under Tim. They’ve only popularised and simplified good but complicated ideas instead of innovating, and I think it’s great like that, no matter which CEO it is. I have an MBA, an Apple Watch and an iPhone btw, so.
Brilliant marketing here. After identifying a navigation problem with the tiny displays in low-end flash players, Apple's solution is to get rid of the display altogether and make you embrace shuffle. You just see the stunned response.
I think the point was something like... Why have a display at all if it's so small and practically useless. So they didn't put a display and made the "shuffle" the main feature so you wouldn't miss the display too much.
I have one of these with all preloaded late 90s and early 2000s songs. How do I check the song library? I remember I used to use itunes like 15 years ago to load stuff onto here, but I havent since. I switched to Samsung phones a while back and dont know how the whole itunes to apple music thing works. PC owner here btw. Thank you. Loved this device, time to bust it out again. Brings back memories of my parents, who added all the music for me at the time.
Not sure if iTunes is still an app you can get for PCs, but you might find a copy of the software that still works with Windows 10/11. Apple Music is just the replacement for iTunes, at least on Macs. The streaming service is just added to the side of the ability to purchase and own your music.
Bond and Beyond I dunno, my iPhone 11 is pretty damn great. Does everything I need it to without hassle. Off topic: isn’t it weird to come back 7 years later and read an old comment?
My first iPod was the 2G iPod Touch MC on Christmas of 2009. So surprise because I ask for a iPod nano. Planning to get the iPod Touch 5G in September.
nice thinking to keep the player hanging by your neck. this way the earphone will not snap off as it does if you keep it in your pocket. But then they made the mistake of designing it for the pocket in future years!!
I wonder what the other manufacturers were thinking when they saw these presentations, Steve Jobs practically making fun of them and then offering a better device (double capacity) at a lower cost (which is weird for apple standards). Like 99$ for 512mb while the others were 149$ for 256mb.
steve was lying out of his ass,at the time, there were thousands of good mp3 players, such as the creative zen micro,it had a touch scroll that was terrific, and it was significantly cheaper than popular ipods
Sean R I had many Creative but the problem they had was because their market share was so low, there were never any parts available for them even a few years after they had been discontinued and so lots of them are rotting away unused. Some of the more popular ones do have replacement batteries but very few. iPods on the other hand have so so many replacement parts being manufactured for them by third party companies. Also the UI was not as good on them. That was no lie. I despise just dragging music into folders but when I first used my iPod Video in 2005, I never went back!! Partial lie there!
Hey, back then? That was about the price range. Now, you can get a flippin' 16 GB Flash Drive for around $30-$40. Back then, that was the new. Consider the Floppy Disk Drives from a long time ago(you know, the square plastic things that the save buttons are pictures of). They only held around 2 MEGABYTES. And that was the 3 and a half inch ones. Back then, that was not a rip off. Seriously.
@jose060789 My first apple product was the second generation shuffle i got it handed down to me from my brother last year then i bought a 5g nano LAME i returned it and months late as in yesterday i bought a shuffle and a month ago I bought an Ibook.
I love apple, but this shuffle is crap. I bought one back in the day and it stopped working after like 2 years! Bought another one and same deal. just a peice of plastic now, unfixable!
Every SJ presentation is a masterclass. It's part business lesson, part marketing presentation, 100% sales. Makes me want to go out and buy one 17 years later.
The TC presentations are also pretty good.
I work in electronics recycling, and someone brought one of these into my workplace the other day in great working condition. Now it's mine, and it's a fun little toy.
These are awesome. I still have one today. They only hold 100mb tho, basically 100 songs max lol. Its the worlds best running device.
@SuperNostalgia. Eternal life doesn't interest me, sorry.
@@HalfMoonProphet So you don’t have it anymore?
@@user-fxw6k7da4 I do still have it. It's sitting next to my desk with my other iPods.
R.I.P. iPod Shuffle 2005-2017.
i was born then

Steve Jobs was an incredible salesman and presenter. He is so likeable and you can tell he put his heart into his company's products.
He had the ability to convince (or make believe) that what they did was the best... despite having defects.

Still rocking mine 13+ years down the road. So simple yet so wonderful. 💚
I had a 512 MB Shuffle that held 143 songs with 87.7 MB leftover.
This is how you take over a market, you break the rules. The Flash MP3's had smaller and smaller screens. Jobs turns and says ''forget the screen, lets do it this way''. The man was a genius.
An absolute beauty. A beautiful, simple feat of design.
240 songs isn't a lot in 2022, but you know what, for a camping trip or even a ski trip, these things are perfect. I think I have mine laying around somewhere, and it still works.
I have the one with 120 songs and I put all of my songs on my phone and the favorites on this thing.
240 songs at 4 mins is 16h of continuous music, beyond the battery life on this thing
damn, apple made some great moves in the 2000s and this was definitely one of them. RIP Steve, the whole company took a nosedive without you.
Just pre-ordered, can’t wait :)!
Let me know if it’s any good when it’s finally released
240p, we meet again..
7 years ago 240p probs was the best

The Ipod Shuffle 4. generation was just beautiful the tiny little thing you could take anywhere very easily
My first ipod. it was a gift for me.i was looking for its display for a long time.
And you can clearly see it from the the design of the new iPod nano :p (true).

i have an ipod shuffle.and still works and i love it.from 2012 until now.
Fun fact. I was so excited to get an iPod shuffle when I was a kid... it stayed in the box and in my bed on the first day we got it!
8:40.
Woah.

It really was, they priced them out
I still got that shuffle and I got the second gen shuffle they still work great :D
It’s 2024 and I want to buy an iPod shuffle because of this.
my first ipod ever :3
Jason Rothfeld mine too
Me too
And my last
I got this today and I LOVE IT! It's actually my first Apple product except the headphones and adapter my dad got with his iPhone 7.
gwad i miss this shuffle, it was by far the best
A digital portable media player without a display? I wouldn't have thought that something like this could be a success.
I miss Steve's personality that he put into Apple. Tim Cook is just, bleh
Tim is running Apple into the ground. 0 innovation, completely ignoring PRO users. Every product line is completely fucked either by removal of ports or oudated hardware.
Mark M That’s what Steve did as well
Rafael HD Ojeda Ah but that’s not my point, my point is that if you think Steve is innovative, so is Apple under Tim. Falcon they can be worth $100 trillion they stopped focusing on innovation and have been corrupted by greed.
Mark M You’re lazy because you’re not a billionaire. See where the problem with your logic is?
My first iPod =D thx for the video !
I have 2 still. Best sounding iPod out of all the shuffles and some might say out of all the ipods because of it's sigma tell chip
I don't care much for iPods, Iphones, OSX, iOS, iMacs, or Macbooks, but I think Steve Jobs was a great man.
I have one of these still.. it holds like 80 songs. haha
DCSHEEP158 that’s crap, mine’s a 1GB but holds around 1000
I hated the shuffle. I was jealous of my brother lol he had the nano
This was my very first ipod and i still use it to this day, RIP Steve Jobs
Michaela Shaperonova me too
5:57 the strap attachment was really well thought
Technology has come a long way. By today's standard, a device for just playing music would be considered colossal if it were the size of that shuffle.
I bought my ipod shuffle 1gb for 15 usd today :D
Bro dead ass almost made me buy another iPod lmao
God I love Steve Jobs.
my first one was the ipod shuffle 4g, it was kinda late but before those i liked music phones like sony ericsson walkmans, but now i like the ipod
Woof, these videos always look like they were shot with the iPod Shuffle
After 2 days of hearing his passing, I still can't believe we lost him.
Brilliant marketing here. After identifying a navigation problem with the tiny displays in low-end flash players, Apple's solution is to get rid of the display altogether and make you embrace shuffle. You just see the stunned response.
so missed, Jobs.
This is seven years ago but it still looks cool and I still want one even though i have an ipodtouch. I wonder if apple can still make one of these
I have an iphone and an ipad today but I still want this☺️
i cant believe 2004 was already a year ago. time flies by.
What do you mean its 2024?
2005 is next year man it's still 2004
first apple product was an ipod Mini. then i bought a Powerbook G4 Aluminium, then a iPod touch. Love apple, and am about to buy a Mac Pro
Watching this from 2018年11月11日. R.I.P Steve
What was wrong with having a small display and tiny buttons if iPod shuffle didn’t even have a display?
I think the point was something like... Why have a display at all if it's so small and practically useless. So they didn't put a display and made the "shuffle" the main feature so you wouldn't miss the display too much.

kinda bought a 1st gen shuffle recently too
Wow, that is... EPIC!

R.I.P Steve Jobs
I am getting one
Finally, an iPod for the deaf.
My first iPod was the 2G iPod Touch MC on Christmas of 2009. So surprise because I ask for a iPod nano. Planning to get the iPod Touch 5G in September.
I want one.
Will these still work?
I seem to recall not needing to use their dumb software to put songs on this, it was like a USB drive
They still work today I still use mine.
The emancipation of apple.
I miss those days when Steve is still around, Tim Cock is bringing Apple down
nice thinking to keep the player hanging by your neck. this way the earphone will not snap off as it does if you keep it in your pocket. But then they made the mistake of designing it for the pocket in future years!!
My very first apple product.
filss fall
My first Apple product, but hardly my last.
I soo thought this was going to be a vape pen commercial
When does this come out?
If only Tim Cook realized people want Ipods again.
I love Apple so much but what I don't like is they keep on releasing products although you just bought it. I do miss Steve Jobs a lot.
I wonder what the other manufacturers were thinking when they saw these presentations, Steve Jobs practically making fun of them and then offering a better device (double capacity) at a lower cost (which is weird for apple standards). Like 99$ for 512mb while the others were 149$ for 256mb.
This audience got excited over a lanyard nowadays we have to wear them at school and work and hate them
Hey i actually had the second and fourth one before.
If only people tried to give you a good deal like that nowadays...
Back when apple was affordable, and made great products.

wow!!!!!!at $99 you cold have 2 ipod shuffles today, and with 149 dollars you could have an ipod nano 6g
so because most music players are hard to find music on they release a player where you can't find any song at all
have these came out yet??
*facepalm*
Uh yeah in 2005. They discontinued this model like 10 years ago and the whole shuffle line in 2017.
mp3 players forget it now there is ipods
@jose060789 My first apple product was the second generation shuffle i got it handed down to me from my brother last year then i bought a 5g nano LAME i returned it and months late as in yesterday i bought a shuffle and a month ago I bought an Ibook.
Apple discontinued the iPod in 2022. During the pandemic. iPhone took over the ipod
its super super tiny
@EvilTogepi142 i opened mine ipod touch on sept .10
genius
no one saw it
nooo one saw it
the golden times when music used to be at a price. Now it is almost free and hence has lost its charm!!
I love apple, but this shuffle is crap. I bought one back in the day and it stopped working after like 2 years! Bought another one and same deal. just a peice of plastic now, unfixable!
Just bought a broken one for 2 dollars
Rip
WTF thats was a great deal back them
2020
They should bring it back
Sounds like there lathin
Apple rocks!
He really was insufferable
