Hi Jay! I heard someone say the other day, referring to COVID and 2020, that although we are not all in the same boat, we are in the same storm. I thought those were sage words. My husband and I caught the coronavirus 3 weeks ago. And along with the sickness came an entire emotional component we never could have expected (which I won’t bore you with). But to touch on your point of gratitude, all we care now, and the Christmas spent without family and friends, was that we both lived. That despite a quick visit to the hospital and lingering issues now, we are alive. We did not have to go on a ventilator and we did not spread the virus to anyone we loved at Christmas. Everything came to the one point of being alive. It could have been so much worse, but it wasn’t, and that is where we find our gratitude as 2020 comes to an end. So....happy new year to you Jay! Keep dreaming, keep creating, and keep hope alive ❤️
Yes. So poignant! We are older, our goal, first and foremost, to stay alive. So glad to read you came through, and see how in the end it is life itself you are grateful for. We have lost a world war of people, life is disrupted.
Living with a pug is the best way to be motivated. You have to go for walks/runs, you have to make sure she gets proper food and feels happy and healthy. And you get unlimited love back every single second of the day. Thank you Ebba, you're the best pug ever!
Hey, I know it’s not the same but you met us! 🤗🥰 We are here to support you and each other through this armpit of a year! You hit 50k subscribers, you maintained friendships in Paris despite a killer virus AND you supported them financially in a way which is philanthropy! You did a lot more too! This year was productive, just not in the way you had originally planned! Think of Luna Lovegood looking up at her lost sneakers on the ceiling in Harry Potter... we find what we lost, but not always in the way we had planned! So have some pudding (U.K. talk for sweets), pop some champagne and KNOW we are doing it along with ya! Love from DC! ❤️❤️❤️🎉🍾🥂
Appreciative of your honesty and frankness. No time for bypassing the very real and messy emotions but...there is always another corner to turn. Thanks for being a small lighthouse in the very rough sea of 2020. Gotta keep the inspiration going! ⭐️🌿💫
Be well, Jay! It's hard to hear about your low feelings, but I'm thankful for this, because there are days where they mirror mine and I feel less alone in all this pandemic mess. :) You're so right that setting goals and doing small steps give us the fortitude we need to continue moving forward. Here's to a wonderful 2021 - I always look forward to your videos, as they let me experience Paris vicariously through you. It's a beautiful city and I can't wait to return!
I have no motivation because of this pandemic. Just feel like so much time is just passing by and is wasted. Happy New Year Jay!!! Trying to stay positive for 2021!!!
I agree. The "lack of control" over our situations is difficult. I try to be thankful for what I can. I am in Florida, so I can get out and walk around without freezing. I have a good job, which I can do from home. Our family has stayed mostly healthy. (Only one person got it. And thankfully it was a mild case. ... The hard part is only being able to see my daughters and granddaughters via Zoom/ Skype. It's been more than a year... We had to cancel/ reschedule a wedding.... My focus this year has also been on small improvements. Learning new things, one small step at a time. Practicing my french every day. Now starting a photography site.... One small thing a day. ... Bonne anneé Jay!
Best advice I saw recently was, “Motion before emotion.” Do the things that your little puppy dog of a mind doesn’t want to do, without thinking about it, and Jay’s puppy dog mind will actually like it.
Most people are in this very same state. Nothing we can do but stay home as much as possible to stop this virus from spreading. I live in LA, where the virus has taken over the emergency rooms! People are being treated in gift shops! Stay safe and a very Happy New Year!
Hi Jay, I wish you a very Happy New Year. May 2021 be a better year. If that can make you feel better, I am in Ottawa Ontario, and my mother is in lockdown in Dublin. I normally travel to Ireland every year but it wasn't possible this time around. Let's hope for an end to this freaking pandemic so you can head back to North America and I can head back to Europe. Take care my friend and thank you for all that you do.
I concur. It’s just been a Uber weird potentially dangerous but also count your blessing just weird isolating kinda situation. Thank you for keeping the dialogue open. This stuff is crazy. Stay safe everyone.
Jay, just like your mileage goal in running, you progress one step at a time. The pandemic has caused so many of us to stagnate, both in some ways that are out of our control, and also psychologically. But readjusting your goals to increments that are smaller does not mean one is less successful, it just means you’re still progressing and getting closer to your goals but you’re just doing it differently than if circumstances were different. You’re totally rocking it! You’ve looking at it in the right way, so keep on keeping on!!!
Here’s to new goals and better days. I’m really glad I found your channel a few months ago. I truly enjoy your content. Thanks! You’ve made my 2020 better.
Cool looking champagne box, can't to see how you like it. Van Moof, on the way....again, third times a charm they say. At least they are taking the time to see why that gizmo is breaking. Thanks for another session of gab, we all need to talk things out at times, helps keep us sane. See ya soon.
Only the best to you in 2021!!! Happy New Year. Enjoy everyday as if it is the best day ever. You truly have lots to be thankful for. Thanks for you daily vids.
lovely Jay.. we do not judge you, definition of loneliness and being single in this new world is totally changed, so forget about it. You have the motivation to run that much and make videos every day. Keep up the good work. Wish you all the best for this new year to come. Have fun and please make more videos. THX ( A girl from Toronto )
Your doing okay and know what to do to carry on. The whole world is upside down, we will get through this. Art is a mind lifter, goals are great, that’s what I tell myself.
Thanks a lot Jay .. we are all together at this special time .. .. take my velo every day ..hope you get yours soon waiting of 2021 and hope good times for us all . Happy New Year 2021 .
Why are you in my head. I feel such a connection with you today. It is so frustrating feeling so despondent when it’s not how I really am. I feel so blah and I want to get out of this place of not knowing. This is such a weird time for feelings, thoughts and everything else. But I feel you wholeheartedly. Have a good day Jay
I like that you say things out loud to hold yourself accountable. I need to do the same. I need to paint more, finish my art website, and my Patreon. I drew a vision board and put it on the wall and keep adding to it...getting creative with it. You inspired me to do that. Happy New Year! If you are alone on NYE and want to livestream toast us that would be cool but only if feel like it. No pressure lol
Congratulations on you 600 miles! It is quite an achievement along with your half marathon. Maybe full marathon in 2021😊. That kept me focused and motivated last year when I ran my first one and doing virtual races have helped me this year as well. As always, thanks for sharing!
Hi Jay, I think you speak for a lot of us. I don’t know if it’s being in lockdown or the new year but I’ve been thinking about what I want to accomplish coming out of all of this one day. And not to make big resolutions that won’t last but to focus on some small habits...just small bite size things I could incorporate into a daily practice. I like your idea of 30 minutes to write and/or draw. Being creative is like food for the soul. Speaking of that...going to check out the movie too. Wishing you a Happy New Year!
Hoping for a much better and celebratory-worthy 2021! You should definitely buy a bottle of bubbly to open on Jan. 20th - we’ve all at least earned that one!
I’m in the same boat as you, Jay. The memory fog thing is real, too. Totally recommend the movie Soul on Disney+. What a great movie. I see none of my friends with the exception of through Zoom once in a while. I am a hugger so it’s been so hard.
Maintaining motivation through all of this has been difficult for most of us. It's been very encouraging and heartwarming seeing you cook and fundraise for your friends and their businesses. I'm sure it's helped you as well. Regarding goals for next year; if you haven't read "Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones" by James Clear, I highly recommend it. It's very well written and researched and has helped me a lot. Anyway, wishing you all the best for 2021. Thank you for "joining me" for coffee most mornings.
I’m single, and very self contained. I always travel on my own, but I do enjoy being around people. Early on, I realized my best defense was to continue to work in the office, with people. There was once 120 people, now about 20. I feel safe, and I still have my regular work life. My friends who are single, and work alone have had emotional problems. Even the ones who are as self absorbed and heartless, as myself. 😉 I have the tendency to overthink things. I’m not allowing myself to think about certain things, and try to focus on the most happy things. (Being African-American, this has been a challenge). I have a lot to be grateful for, and I enjoy the privilege of having a peek into the life of a sweet, artistic soul such as yourself! 🍻
Jay, first of all "Felicitations!!!" on the 600 + miles run! Good job! And I love you, what a sincere young man! Boy I can relate on the inertia...I keep putting things off. Part of it is to save SOMETHING to do later when I REALLY need something to do. Part of it is that I FEEL stopped mid stride by being locked down. Hang in there Jay! Again Congratulations on your accomplishments!!!!

Your running app changing its feature structure reminded me of the ads issue touched upon yesterday. I was going to comment on that but it was too late. Anyway, the app, and many apps for that matter that offer a service are learning the hard lessons of just how expensive it is to survive as service provider and, especially during these times, are passing that cost on. Whether it's right (with right being stressed and in finger quotes) isn't really the issue. What is the issue is HOW they do it in the most fair and least obtrusive manner possible. One outcome of this, and it's not great, is that once they do it it teaches them they can keep doing it. Jay, you mentioned signing up for TH-cam Premium (or whatever they are calling it) and how it allows you to view content without ads ... and that's great, right up until the point that they change it from being ad free to offering ads. It will eventually be touted as "Sign up for our Premium and get LESS ads!!!" And they will market it like they are doing you a favor. All this to say that if you want ad free, get an ad blocker. If you want free services in an app change over to one that still offers it. Only by SHOWING one's displeasure, and enough of people doing it, will they ever hear and adjust their business model to be better. Here's to hoping 2021 is better (make that a LOT better) than this past year has been.
Yiu are definitely not the only one. I also have had that problem of where I have stuff I need to do but I don't have the motivation. Your take and plans might help me. So thank you. Not many ppl are talking about it that I see.
I learned, yesterday that my Daughter-in-law has Covid. My son and his family are in Post Falls, Idaho and we are hopeful the rest of the family will be okay and she will have a mild case and recovers quickly. We haven't seen them in over a year and that makes it rough all around. Zoom seems to make it even harder in that you cannot provide the hugs. We always think of you when we go out to land in Spokane. Be safe.
@@JaySwanson She is feeling better today, but my son is having symptoms now. He's getting tested tomorrow. That whole Northern Idaho area seems to have a lot of Covid. Stay safe.
I wrote my first novel during my half hour long work lunch breaks 5 days a week. It does add up. Even doing book prep each day will help the book percolate so you'll write faster and better later.
Jay! Congrats on the 600 miles!!! Give yourself a lot of credit for taking care of your physical health...something you CAN control. Loved the idea of writing goals on the champagne bottles-I might think about that on WINE bottles!!! Yeah. No words can describe this year, but we all need to look FORWARD to starting a NEW year! Lots of us are with you and having similar feelings about what we cannot control. Let's focus on what we CAN control early in the new year and make the best of it. Good news....my sister gets the vaccine shot today!!!! HURRAY...HOPE is on the way. We're with you and looking forward to your exploits in one of our favorite cities. SHOW US MORE....we love your commentary and following you in photos, words and LIFE! Thanks for everything daily!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR, I hope ALL your dreams will come true. You deserve them and more. Put ambitious goals for 2021 based on 2020 possibilities, we cannot let ourselves go and become stagnant . It is very difficult to get out of complacency and feeling sorry. yes, it is difficult for everyone, we cannot get complacent and sorry. Everyday we has to be better that the last. Make a "lemonade" out of what you got - YOU CAN DO IT.
I've done this lady's job for years, in my case in hardware stores selling paint and power tools. The fact that you have an "animator" (the official name of this job in French, "Animateur") doesn't mean sales are down. They are a regular part of business here, negotiated between the store and their suppliers to boost sales. On the contrary, the absence of "animators" is a sign of bad business. Less volumes = less days of animation negotiated. Which is also why I stopped doing that back then. Here's another useless, obscure cultural lesson about France for you! ^^
¡Hola Jay! I understand you, sometimes loneliness can be frustrating and dangerous, but in a way one has to learn how to be lonely and happy, or at least functional. Now, due to the pandemic, we all are forced to remain home and lot of us also has to be lonely. What you are doing is the correct way to stay mentally healthy, that some times is more important than the physical one. I don’t want to say that I’m concerned about your mental health, I’m more worried about you leaving your camera/phone recording when you walking away doing one of your daily videos 😯😮😁😁, but a person can certainly suffer being alone if he/she is not prepared. As you said that you had been alone before, and that is giving you the strength to survive this apocalyptic event.... just has to remember this, you are not the only one, you are not alone.
Jay, thank you for being open with how you are doing through all of this. I had a thought re connecting with people- what is the online dating scene like in Paris? I hope 2021 brings you many wonderful things, including a working bike!
OMG... the “Kafka” bike company... Thank you for the scroll and replay hack to avoid ads. You have saved me mucho frustration . Us creative types can’t produce all the time. At least you’re aware of the pauses. Wishing you a positive feeling New Year.
It's not the exercise, it's the carbs. I got off sugar and carbs and lost 30 lbs without having to exercise constantly. This year needs to end. Lost my dad to Covid last month and just found out his 8yo boxer died a month later after she was re-homed as my stepmom couldn't care for her as she too was recovering from Covid but survived. 2021's theme will be "Enjoy Being Alive"
Well, you’re still in better shape than Tom Hanks in Castaway. You can talk to us through your camera instead of a volleyball that doesn’t respond. There will always be someone here to talk back to you. Happy New Year. Don’t dwell. This too shall pass. 🥂🍾
I saw this about changes in France 2021 and thought of you. Good luck with the bike! Bike marking to protect against theft New bikes must have identification markings from January 2021. Each bike will be stamped with a unique identification number, which will also appear on proof of purchase documentation, to help protect against theft by making it easier to trace stolen bikes and prove ownership. The scheme will be extended to second hand bikes sold by professionals from July 2021.
I STRIVE everyday for the last 30 years to put my feet on the ground first thing in the morning to exercise - i then feel better - as for travel my passion and planning - ugh :( was going to fly to florida for the weekend and my son and partner gave me a big rash of shit about it. ugh! have a happy end of the 2020 and a happy beginning to 2021
Eh, you know the days are getting longer, right? The problem is, at least for me, the bloody temperature. And yes, layering clothes helps but I would be feeling so much better at 25C (preferably higher).
Inertia is my enemy so I sit and wait for it to pass, sure, that works. Jay, congrats man on achieving the running goal. So awesome! New years and curfew totally blows. We have a 10 pm curfew here, so there it is. Ho hum. Oh, goats. I like goats. Ok, I clearly have lost it. Cheers! 😎
3:48 I feels ya! Being consistent has been really difficult. I have to keep telling myself to try to be my best and do my best with what I have here and now. Well done to your bank😕, glad you still have access to some money. Congrats on the running 🎉, esp. wearing a mask. Running for the bus with a mask on is punishing enough for me. 😎
@@JaySwanson ...Maintaining a French bank account is an Olympic endurance sport...Ask me, I am in Portland, Oregon, USA and communication is sooo difficult even with my sister’s assistance
Nice vid Jay, hopefully the vaccine will sort things out a bit, am also getting sick of the lockdowns here in Dublin, full level 5 for the foreseeable future 🙄
At least France is doing way better than the US. It’s a mess over here. In many ways. A shake it became political: definitely undermined the importance of Public Health. Hopefully, by the end of it all, Americans (I count myself in even though I’m Canadian - I’ve lived here 23 yrs) will have learned to worry about the ‘collective’ instead of “me, me, me..” We shall see. Bonne année Jay!!!! (Meilleure année j’espère!!)
30 minutes a day sitting before a tabernacle in one of those beautiful Catholic Churches you get to visit in Paris will make a HUGE difference. Grab a Bible, read the Gospels (I RECCOMEND THE BOOK OF JOHN!...."THE LIGHT SHINES IN THE DARKNESS AND THE DARKNESS HAS NOT OVERCOME IT" COMES FROM THAT BOOK!). BLESSINGS to you in this new year! hooray!
Goat based banking, its the way forward you know, you just have to be careful the goat doesnt eat the verification code 'cos then you'll really have problems!

Great talk! !
Yiu are definitely not the only one. I also have had that problem of where I have stuff I need to do but I don't have the motivation. Your take and plans might help me. So thank you. Not many ppl are talking about it that I see.
Happy my own stuckness processing can be of some help 👍
Write while still in bed or right after. You will have it done! and writing flows easier when you’re just coming out of dreams
Happy New Year!
Thank you! You too 🥂🥳
I learned, yesterday that my Daughter-in-law has Covid. Be safe.
I hope she's ok! I'm definitely looking forward to real hugs again
Totally. I used to write so much and I've let that discipline go. Gotta get it back.
Lanson is a pretty good champagne. We went on a tour of the facilities when we visited Reims last year.
Congrats to your sister! And for sure, whichever bottle ends up motivating you best 🥂🥂
Running has kept me sane this year. It's the only thing I can stay interested in.
Have a great new year. All the best.
You too!🥂🥳🥂
well heard no new lockdown there . my daily goals include taking a daily shower , achieving that gets me through frankly . keep on keeping on
Evening Jay end of year crap happening things that should just go along easy peasy for some reason end of December always makes things harder
Wish my landlord would let me have a cat just so i could sit stroke and have friend with no strings lol
Well done for reaching one of your goals. Happy New Year and for a healthier one.
Thank you! And a Happy New Year to you too!🥳
Writing goals/resolutions on champagne is a great idea!
I've enjoyed it over the years 🥂
Congratulations!,!,, happy new year!,,best wishes and hopefully we can travel and go visit Paris and cafe peloton ....hugs from south Utah..
Hi Jay, all the best to you for the new year
And to you!!
We’re all in the same state right along with you.
Isolation is making me weird(er). Happy New Year
Being single and not having anyone to greet you when you get home really sucks!!!
Gilly really let me down on that front 😆
@@JaySwanson ...She has no empathy!
Happy New Year
Thank you! Happy New Year to you too!🥂
It's not the exercise, it's the carbs.
Haha, now I want to play volleyball
I saw this about changes in France 2021 and thought of you. Good luck with the bike!
Bike marking to protect against theft
New bikes must have identification markings from January 2021.
Each bike will be stamped with a unique identification number, which will also appear on proof of purchase documentation, to help protect against theft by making it easier to trace stolen bikes and prove ownership.
The scheme will be extended to second hand bikes sold by professionals from July 2021.
I love almond champagne!
Always love your vlog !
Thanks Ryan!
I STRIVE everyday for the last 30 years to put my feet on the ground first thing in the morning to exercise - i then feel better - as for travel my passion and planning - ugh :( was going to fly to florida for the weekend and my son and partner gave me a big rash of shit about it. ugh! have a happy end of the 2020 and a happy beginning to 2021
...Good son and partner! Listen to them...
Eh, you know the days are getting longer, right? The problem is, at least for me, the bloody temperature. And yes, layering clothes helps but I would be feeling so much better at 25C (preferably higher).
They're getting longer technically, but it'll be a while before it feels like it 😆
Inertia is my enemy so I sit and wait for it to pass, sure, that works.
Jay, congrats man on achieving the running goal. So awesome!
New years and curfew totally blows. We have a 10 pm curfew here, so there it is. Ho hum. Oh, goats. I like goats. Ok, I clearly have lost it.
Cheers! 😎
Haha, that's exactly the inertia trap. Here's hoping 2021 restores our collective sanity!🥂
Word.
👍
3:48 I feels ya! Being consistent has been really difficult. I have to keep telling myself to try to be my best and do my best with what I have here and now.
Well done to your bank😕, glad you still have access to some money.
Congrats on the running 🎉, esp. wearing a mask. Running for the bus with a mask on is punishing enough for me. 😎
Here's hoping my banking woes come to an end asap 😆
@@JaySwanson ...Maintaining a French bank account is an Olympic endurance sport...Ask me, I am in Portland, Oregon, USA and communication is sooo difficult even with my sister’s assistance
You are so cute! When you say funny things I have just the biggest grin while sitting in front of my computer. Thank you for the lift!
You are so welcome!
LOL sending a code by mail to verify your phone number. That is the most French thing I have heard in a while.
It was impressive.
Do you have a topic for your writing??
Plenty haha. Just gotta sit down and do it
Please show us your drawings
Online reviews give Lanson Black Label 4+ out of 5 stars.
Not a bad set of stars 🥂
Nice vid Jay, hopefully the vaccine will sort things out a bit, am also getting sick of the lockdowns here in Dublin, full level 5 for the foreseeable future 🙄
I have high hopes for summer at least 😆
I normally don’t like facial hair but it looks so great on you! You are very handsome 😉
Haha, thanks! Glad to pass muster 🧙♂️
Van Moof (they say it rhymes with Loaf) :)
😂
@@JaySwanson hilarious. :)
I wish I could run
There was a champagne sign that said -30% off, no?
There was! I just got sucked in by a very persuasive sales woman offering her own discount haha
Here's hoping it's a better 2021 for all of us!
third 😊 (3 is my fave #)
Close, but I'll still give it to you since it's your fav 😉🥉
30 minutes a day sitting before a tabernacle in one of those beautiful Catholic Churches you get to visit in Paris will make a HUGE difference. Grab a Bible, read the Gospels (I RECCOMEND THE BOOK OF JOHN!...."THE LIGHT SHINES IN THE DARKNESS AND THE DARKNESS HAS NOT OVERCOME IT" COMES FROM THAT BOOK!). BLESSINGS to you in this new year! hooray!
👍🏻😁
🥂🥳
Almond Rocas aren't good my man...Happy New Year!
Goat based banking, its the way forward you know, you just have to be careful the goat doesnt eat the verification code 'cos then you'll really have problems!
Wanna pay for it? No. 🤣
