Today I'm showcasing the enthralling abandoned house of the Belgian couple Marcel & Marie. People of strict Roman Catholic faith once spent the greatest time of their lives within the four walls of this lavish home. However, their undisturbed happiness ended when Mr. Marcel passed away. Mrs. Marie was left as a widow and her mental health deteriorated because of indescribable grief. Although her loneliness was soon filled by several cats, she was anything but before and started to cope with a hoarding disorder. She exorbitantly started saving items, from cans of cat food to religious maria statues. Items that others may regard worthless, were ultimately precious in her eyes. Her persistent difficulties parting with possessions led to clutter that disrupted her ability to use her living spaces.
Following, her physical health also descented and she started neglecting herself. After years of living in appalling conditions, the woman died in 2011, and as of today, everything in the house is still left as it once was.

I cried too .I see an old lady who lost her mind. Her only comfort was her cats. I hope she did not die alone. It was once a beautiful home thank you for sharing it with us

I'm so sad that the lady didn't get help or no one offered to help her. I can picture it being a beautiful house. I was crying 😭 when I was watching it. Take care Marueno.

Yeah, I am so emotional too. So sad to imagine living there alone after her husbands death. Nobody watches over her while mourning that’s why she consoles herself with collecting stuffs. Being alone and there’s no one to talk to is the saddest part of it. 😞 😢

Your intro had me crying for Mr. Marcel and Ms. Marie. After viewing this video, I now have a better understanding of pain and hoarding. When you lose that special man or woman in your life, nothing else matters. Your surroundings, your eating habits, personal care and your health no longer important.
Ms. Marie had her cats which provided that companionship, because of her health, house cleaning not important, whi is she cleaning for? She didn't mine or her cats. My sadness is not knowing how and where she died. I hope Lord that her family, due to her health removed her from their and placed her in a Nursing Facility where she was cared for until her death.
That Religious Room of Ornaments and the stained glass window was my favorite.
My deepest condolences to the family for their lost, and from the items they both had, Marcel and Maries surely had and interesting and beautiful life together. God Bless them, may they rest in peace.

I can understand why people can collect to excess after the loss of a loved. I am also an avid collector, my own collections have grown substantially since the loss of my beloved mother. The house is so large and was once very beautiful. I can't understand the hoarding of trash and cat food cans though. I don't think Ms. Marie was able to take out trash anymore or clean up after all the cats. This is very sad. Keep up the good work Maureno you are my favorite !!

Hoarding as a result of great grief, depression, or trauma. I can see where it changed from collections and caring about displaying them to trash. So so sad.

Hi dear Maureno from super team Explomo, Thank you very much for taking us viewers on tour through this abandoned house in Belgium.
I felt very sad when seeing these traces of compulsive hoarding leading inevitably to a horrible mess. I also know, that it is due to a mental
disorder, caused by some kind of loneliness, depression or trauma. I don't know for sure, but maybe the lady of this house didn't even see
the mess any more, she was surrounded, because she had to take care of her cats, visible here as well in these many empty catfood tins.
So terribly sad to see! - But on the other hand there were these amazing collections. The room with the religious artefacts was incredible.
All these statues and other very nice chinaware, so neatly showcased in the cabinets. - And - hanging from the ceiling was a very beautiful
art nouveau lamp with glittering glass decorations visible. I think, that also the bust in the hallway and some of the paintings might be quite
valuable. What I could see, is that the bust with the name "poesie", which means poetry, is probably also from the art nouveau period. - Also
the other collections, like the coffeegrinders, the oil lamps, etc. were so fascinating to see. - I am quite sure, that in the more intact rooms,
where also quite decorative furniture was visible, there were a lot of items of a considerable value, worth to be preserved. - A very interesting
but also incredibly sad explore, dear Maureno. - Stay safe, dear bro, peace and much love from very sunny Switzerland.
Lots of blessings and kindest regards.

First of all, I'd like to say that hoarding is a mental disorder caused by many things. The poor woman probably didn't even see the mess anymore, just her beautiful and extensive collections. Maureno, you did a wonderful job of documenting all the beautiful antiques and collections of statues and holy water holder. It must have been a magnificent place before death and mental illness took over. Thank you.

I feel so bad for her. I understand how it can be so hard to go on with life when someone you love and have been with for many years dies. I can understand a little how she developed a hoarding problem because she was afraid of even more loss. I’ll admit that I find all the statues a little creepy, but the condition of her home is so sad. It was a beautiful home that used to be cared for. No one should live like that. It is important to check on the elderly, not just family, but neighbors too. Even if they don’t need anything, just a little chat might keep them from being lonely and depressed

    • @rizalietorrente7302
      @rizalietorrente7302 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Exactly. Being alone and lonely and nobody wants to hear your story makes a person build mental illness. She was neglected by neighbors and relatives 😔

I truly appreciate the exploration. I do understand a bit about hoarders and complicated grief. My mum was widowed at 45 the first time after 26 years of marriage. She remarried a wonderful man 3 years later but was again widowed at 66. She was heartbroken and grew depressed. Although he had been ill, his death was unexpected. I saw my normally highly intelligent, professional, and rational mum rarely leave her home other than her volunteer work at the hospital (where he had been head of engineering) or church. She cared for his cat like a child and did everything to extremes. She barely cared for herself and the recyclables piled up in her home and all the things from his wake were set up as a shrine in her office. It was truly bizarre! It took almost a decade, multiple interventions, and then the death of her younger only sibling to jar her out of her stupor.
As for the religious artifacts in the room, I think, as shown in my mum’s example and many others I have witnessed, when people suffer great loss, they either bargain or rely on their faith to get them through. Sometimes, it is hard a person to find their way through the fog of depression, especially the older generation that carries shame with it, if they can’t get past asking for help or they lacks healthy support system. We need each other, not stuff. I can appreciate beautiful things. I do! But it’s always the people that share those things- like you two my Dutch brothers who bring Urbex to us to share the adventures.

To Deanna Colson: I thought the exact same thing about the religious aspect with the widow of this story. So sorry you went thru so much with your darling mama. So many of us at my church have gone thru the same situation with parents and loved ones who have lost touch somehow. It's so heartbreaking for those of us who witness the onset of the malady and try to help our loved one at the time they need all the reassurance we can muster and supply. One lady in our group said "old age sure ain't for sissies," and she hit the nail on the head!
I hope you have less stress in your life today. 😌

@@pennyfields491 now that people are vaccinated, my son who lives close by is visiting twice a week and doing things around her house to help. He said she seems to be perkier and has started to clean up inside too. Wonders never cease. It’s good for both of them! Thank you for your kind wishes. Hope you are doing well yourself.

I'm from the USA. I have seen numerous hoarding shows on TV where I live but have never seen a show after someone has passed away. Thank you for showing it. I've seen a few shows were people had things piled as high as the ceilings.Believe it or not they live there. I've seen shows where they will buy another house or storage units to continue their hoarding. Very sad. It truly is a disease.
      God Bless and be safe.

I have been sitting here trying to wrap my head arround this beautiful home. This past year of isolation shows me that I could easily slip into not taking care of myself. Getting back to the collections, we collect mostly miniture nativities at one point in time we had over 200, some of them have got broken in our many moves. When you showed the stained glass window my thought was that came from either a large mansion or church as you continued going around there were other things that made me think things had been purchased or saved from a church that was closing down. The very large wooden angel statue, I was more convinced, it was the large paintings in the hallway then in that one last room. There were many paintings that made me say those came from a church. They could have come from a very large mansion that was too costly to upkeep but would not fit into their new home.
I do believe there have been items removed from the home, as you pan around the room there are squares shapes where items had stood, drawers and cupboards left open, I do no believe those would have been left like that by Ms. Marie. A Jewelary box that was open. The cupboard with wool pulled out. At some point she probably did knit and/or crochet, you would not let cats have wool because they eat it and it would ball up in their stomach and eventually kill them. The wool was not for cats.
The question that you did not answer in the video was, what happened to their children, why have they not come and sort out their parents home, cleared and sold the many many valuables there.
I do hope that you closed doors and windows as you left, in order to not leave it as an invitation to those who can steal and sell items slowly, no one would know.
I think I have written enough.

What i am thinking now is, yes, why? It's a large, beautiful home, If she was lonely, why not invite someone to live with her? There are many, who would have loved to share their time with her. In exchange, they could take care of her and do all the chores. They are many lonely people. It's a shame, we don't reach out to others, when in need. It would have been beneficial to both of them. It's a gorgeous mansion, with a lot of potential. What a terrible waste of so much. Meanwhile, you better believe that we are soooo grateful and appreciative of your explores! Thank you, thank you. I pray she is resting in peace now with her husband. No judgement intended. Btw, you worked hard on this one.

Wow! That relic room was amazing! I have to say this is the first time the thought of actually wanting to meet the owners of this place crossed my mind. Ohhh Maureno...what an absolutely gorgeous & at the same time sooo very sad, history of someone’s life ❤️😞 This home tells the story of their lives! They were a couple with a lot of money & ancestors with privilege & clout!!! During their life together, they lived a very privileged life, collecting sooo many various items! The religious room, pictures, statues & wall hangings need to be placed in a museum or a church! The stained glass window & China cabinet were priceless! During the prime of their life, this home was beautiful, pristine & well loved! The wooden furniture was breathtaking! At the end of their life, the last one living, I suspect got Alzheimer’s or dementia & mentally & possibly physically, not able to keep the home pristine any longer & turned into a hoarder😔 Sooo very sad to see what became of not only themself but their once gorgeous home 😞It makes me very happy to see that it has not been vandalized, but at the same time, sooo very sad to see that no family members have come to save these one of a kind items & family treasures!!! 😔 You are correct, I think that the master bathroom tub was used as a cat box😞 I loved the floor & wall tile in the entire house! The structure of the property, didn’t appear to me to be in bad shape! My wish is for someone to come in & clean up this beautiful place & salvage the many priceless items & restore this wonderful property once again!!! Hopefully love & happiness can preside there once again!!! Thank you for sharing this epic property with us! I loved it ❤️

You so eloquently spoke of her it brought tears. I've seen clips of this house but have only watched your video because of it's length and the respect that you always show to the owners and the property you are on. I wanted to see the collection in it's entirety. It was more than I could have expected, two people devoted to God, my heart rests assured that they dwell together in His most highest place with Him now. Mental illness is common amongst the elderly after one partner passes away. I've witnessed it before, the longing and need to hold on to anything that connects them with their partner. Some truly pass away not long after, grieving themself to death. It may look as though that hoarding took many years when in reality it only took a few. And I'm afraid you are right, she neglected her own health needs as she cared more for the cats. That was probably where she found happiness. I'm sure you noticed the room with the religious statues was clean. It looks as though she spent time in there to escape the clutter and clear her mind as she prayed. Thank you for sharing this precious home and the story of this beautiful couple. I hope someone will come in and preserve their lifetime collection of fine things. Your work beautifully illustrates a love story. Take care, stay safe & God bless! xoxo 💖 Kat

I wish you showed what was on top of the cabinets. I like the large bisque white statue with the dome on it and the oval plaque above the door.

I have been watching Urbex videos for 10 years now, with thousands and thousands of videos and I have never seen anything quite like this. The local government should auction off what they can and use the proceeds to help the poor. Thanks for the amazing video. You certainly do find the best places by far.

You can’t just auction off someone’s belongings! There are clear legal channels to be followed.

Actually the cats had a really bad life in this place because of the filthy conditions. Before the mental illness she may have taken good care of the cats. Not meaning to correct you. It’s just the result of the mental illnesses. They think they are providing an adequate home for the animals. It is so sad to see how grief can cripple a persons mind. If only an intervention helped. So many people won’t allow help. This video is an eye opening experience for anyone who has never seen hoarding. You did the best you could to show this property. I give you credit to go through this place. It’s even harder to experience it up close for you. Thanks for all your videos. I have been addicted to your channel for a long time.❤️ from Wisconsin.

This made me tear up. It's true a broken heart can change someone's life so badly. Sometimes when someone goes through something terrible in there life they surround themselves with religious things, to feel protected & safe. So so sad, that there is no one left to care. Magnificent collectables, amazing that its left to rot. I hope that it will be kept a secret from the wrong people. I actually was hoping you'd try and pull the opened outside door closed. Hopefully you did when you left. Thank you for sharing.

Another sad story ... I feel so sorry for both of them. Pain take us to a lot of places in the mind. Not get rid of things is a disorder as consequence of something chemical happening inside your brain. Those things were precious to them...LOVE THIER FURNITURE. Great find‼️

Such an extraordinary find. Obviously they had money because the furniture and pieces are really nice. It’s just so so sad that no one could come in and clean it up and do it justice. Save it before it goes into disrepair.

Oh this house!!! Of everything I’ve seen in your videos, all the houses abs belongings inside, the only item that makes me ache inside with wanting is that magnificent carved Angel in the living room of this home. Having been born and raised Catholic, she speaks so deeply to me. I would give anything to be able to cherish an artifact such as that, and protect her. All the prayers and devotion she must have watched over in her lifespan

How very sad. But how does a home get left like that? Is there no estate laws where the estate has to be settled once a person passes away? Beautiful collectibles. I hope. that somehow they will be saved. Great exploration!

Cats, unattended and over-populated, can totally demolish a home with climbing, digging, pooping and urinating everywhere. The waste is caustic. I wish you would have worn a mask, Maureno! Toxicplasmosis is real! People who hoard animals lack the understanding that they are hurting the animal instead of helping. This person clearly felt that feeding the cats and providing cat litter was an appropriate way to care for them. It is very very sad, indeed.

What I find so unusual is how in order the collections are. The main thing that seems to be messy is the paper items and the cat stuff. Unusual for a hoarder.

All of those portraits are probably not “family ancestors.” They were likely complete strangers and the portraits were purchased for the frames. Or perhaps they were being “rescued” from their abandonment. There are people who purchase such portraits because they feel empathy toward the person pictured.

In the last room there is a painting with the signing of the agreement (capitulation) of Germany at the end of World War I in 1918, which took place in a railway-car near the Forêt de Compiègne!
