It's interesting to note that rear load blade packers don't suffer from this problem as they simply eject the load with the compaction piston no problems at all. I've always wondered if there were design flaws in side load packers, and this video has been most revealing.
This is the reason why we tend to use bigger bodies to accommodate recycling collections in Australia. You can fit a large amount of bins in, without having to compact it so much that you don't have the issues in the above video. Still...fun to watch ;-)
Full eject bodies aren't too common here in Arizona due to the majority of dump sites being transfer stations versus landfills. Full eject is safer compared to tip to dump bodies absolutely. Thank you for commenting!
driver at my work has same problem with his curbtender. he just fills the hopper up with trash before he dumps so when its tipped up in air to dump the packer has trash to push and it never gets stuck anymore
I was told on Fridays they try to get their entire recycle route in. With a square body, the load tends to get stuck more than rounded. Thank you for commenting!
Stereo4102 Yes, or have the body sides tapered to make sure no material gets stuck during the tip to dump process. Or have full eject. Thank you for commenting!
curious what your drivers do if a can falls into the hopper? here the driver compacts it and keeps going maybe because it is too dangerous to climb up on the arm into the top of the hopper?
Pretty crappy having to waste time dealing with this. Not good on the truck to have to gun it back and forth. DaDee did the right thing by making the inside of the Scorpion body rounded! Nice job!
Easy solution would have been to just dump a load of recycles into the hopper until it's full, cycle the compactor a few times, and then the compaction would unstick it fairly quickly. Don't they give the truck driver a pole to unstick the garbage with? In Australia drivers have a shovel or a long pole with a hooked tip, that's just to get rubbish that's stuck in bins out. Almost all garbage trucks in Australia have rounded bodies so trash will slide out a lot easier.
that lid must want to stay on that truck. it looks like he does not want to be recyced lol. how where you able to get in there and film? we might go to a transfer station to film. great video.
Wow! I just stumbled upon these garbage and recycle videos... never knew there was such an interest, but after watching some I'm kind of hooked! I'm surprised they don't have a pole or something to help unclog. Anyway, I may wake up early to watch my truck some morning lol :)
Hey it's all good! Most definitely I was the same way, and now I'm hooked watching and posting them lol It's amazing how much the videos here on TH-cam have grown. I was told that they do not use the tractor to help get the stuck load out because they could damage hydraulic lines for the tailgate. Thank you for the comment!
This truck looks like it got constipation at the transfer station 😂
LoL!
May I recommend prune juice, for this case,at least 2 pallets worth. ( it actually helps)!
2:04 SPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED
Holy crap that's really packed out! Great video!
Thank you!
Lower the body throw something in the hopper so it will discharge. The load easy

Time for some tnt to blow it out of there...

That transfer station is huge
Most definitely! There's between 2-3 units dumping loads at a time. It's really neat. Thank you for commenting!
Ha love the curbtenter packed in with trash and can’t get out
I would have brought the body down and put the tailgate down about half way.
That's why the ejector panel system rules for unloading.

Lol that driver was probably very frustrated by the time the load finally fell out. This was recycle? Great catch!
Yes this was recycle, thank you!

Looks like he over packed...is that even such a thing?? Dang he was really gunning that thing back and forth. Was his packer screwed up or something?

Another solution: Integrate the walking floor system to MSL's & ASL's.

Look he's recycling a lid😁
Yeah, and no cart that I saw come out of the truck with it! Thank you for commenting!
wait a sec..... THATS A CAN LID

I pack it through. Some of our guys get it outta the hopper, our trucks have a ladder on the passenger side to climb up there.

I agree dude! Thank you!

Now that's what I call a sticky situation.
What he really needs a 7up

Bring the body down and put the tailgate down about half way to release some of the pressure and start all over.
