    I am not a developer or an expert in the web community. I am just an old guy who wanted my website to be better than Wordpress could provide. I found Laravel 6 years ago, learnt it, built with it and have a website that is quite frankly ridiculous in terms of functionality and speed. Taylor and Jeffrey made that happen for me. I am very grateful :)

    Laravel made me realise that Hype is trash, Functionality is Key and Focus is everything. I have built businesses that continues to pay people, and help vendors make money in NIgeria. Thank You Taylor, You gave me a tool i am comfortable coding with full time , no matter what the media says.

      @@MalteNielson I did some digging. The only conclusion I get was that static methods are hard to test because the result is hard to predict and goes against OOP practices.
      I'm no expert on this, but I would say it is justifiable because PHP is capable of building an instance of a class by using magic methods and static factories.
      Laravel is built with this in mind. A lot of the methods are actually build to support static methods and leverages the feature of what PHP has already.
      This allows for classes to be instantiated without the need of calling new class here and there while allowing to chain methods easily from other methods. This is why Laravel has the best Query Builder I've ever seen on any frameworks. Because it's much simpler.
      People called it developer-friendly because of Laravel's great extensive documentation, highly expressive syntaxes. Which allows any beginners can start coding on Laravel without knowing any practices of OOP in the first place.

I am super surprised though the Laravel daily guy wasn't in this documentary, he by far is one of the best people to learn the framework from. He got me more in the habit of always questioning if there is a better way to implement the code i end up writing. He has the best optimal tips on the framework out there

    Back when he was with Envato/Tuts+ that was my main place to find new frameworks I should probably learn, or keep an eye on and now Laracasts. And he's the only one I never had to put the video on 2X speed until they got to the point.

    I started using Laravel in 2017. I had no idea what language I was going to write my new project in, so I did the same thing I did in 1998 when I chose Java over C++, a deep search of current languages and opinion. That took me to PHP, and from there, Laravel. My first commercial app was out before the end of the year, and I've been messing around with Laravel ever since, including rewriting that first app from scratch with Laravel 8, and then upgrading it to Laravel 9 in 2022. Every day I love it more. Thanks for this origin story. It's amazing how few people it takes to build an empire.

    If my memory serves me right - I started using Laravel around 10 years ago and never turned back. Best framework ever. I have to give credit to Phil Sturgeon from FUEL PHP for finding Laravel - because I read an article where he praised Taylor for doing something really cool worth looking at... and said to myself "hmm, this looks legit" and there it was ;) Taylor looked like he was right out of high school at the time. Wow the time has passed quickly. This documentary makes me want to contribute more to open source.

    Thanks to Laravel, PHP is one of the serious programming languages - again.
    Keep up the good work.

    • @azolee
      @azolee 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Nikola B. A lots of programming languages are available at the moment, but since Laravel is present, it is possible to maintain - even corporate level - complex projects in PHP much easier than before... and this, combined with the PHP's easy learning curve.

    • @azolee
      @azolee 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Nikola B. sorry, it is a missundestooding here. I didnt meant this way.
      There was only one thing that was in my mind:
      since Laravel is present, even more developers use PHP again to create corporate level software.
      Since JS became a backend stack as well, and since Go is here as well, we see even Java loosing space.
      But not PHP - despite the fact that a lots of developers - usually from other stacks - says that PHP is dying.
      But, since such a great framework like Laravel (and Symfony) is present, PHP is a serious web development language to consider even for big corporate projects as well.
      So, I did not want to take any credit from the PHP core developers.
      They did a very good job with the language.
      I really like the direction they are heading to.

    • @azolee
      @azolee 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Nikola B. you should learn Laravel. It will make much easyer to maintain your code/project, and also a lots of PHP Developers enjoy working with Laravel, wich will ease the recruting process. as well.

    • @azolee
      @azolee 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Nikola B. I have used Laravel in a lots of different - heavily loaded corporate projects, and indeed - when it is misused, Eloquent can produce issues. But if you use it properly, a lots of good things are handled in a very elegant, robust and dinamic way and thus, it can ease the development process as well.

    • @Xewl
      @Xewl 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Nikola B. That's of course the case with any ORM, but the work that's been put into Eloquent to make it work in multiple cases, the extendibility/expandability is definitely there. Somewhere, someone has hit your use case and shared their knowledge, and if not.. it's not that big of a jump to make your use case work the way you want. There's tons of resources available to do just that.
      Outside of the ORM, there's a whole load of stuff and valuable resources, even stuff that's not fully documented yet (though, the documentation that exists is *chefs kiss*), but is already in use, maintained by third parties or open source so you can either join their cause or make a fork of your own.
      Even when you have to look for your problem, put "laravel" in the query, and pretty sure you'll be on your way.

    I just started web development using WordPress in 2018 and began web programming last year. I'm looking for the stack of PHP or JS to delve on. I like the way of coding in PHP because, like VB, it's more friendly. One more thing is that you can still use the basic foundation of web programming integrating PHP, JS, HTML and CSS.
    Later on, I found this Laravel and it was so interesting!!! I love it.

    Good luck on your next project.

    Been using laravel from version 5. For my own projects and client projects. Laravel let me to focus to build my idea, my startup. If i using other tools, maybe i feel exhausted in the middle of my way to release and make user to get the benefit. I can make sure my idea has the market, then scale gradually

    Nice, yeah, I've first met Laravel in 2012, and I was trying other languages, because at that time, all the existing frameworks wasn't intuitive neither fluent, they had a lot of magic methods and things that was hard to modify. Without Laravel I would left PHP for ever, besides I've working with other languages, PHP and Laravel is my favorite! Thanks Taylor an all the Laravel team.

    Laravel is one of the best frameworks out there saves so much time with things that normally take hrs, would never go back to "vanilla" php again.

      That's funny, I have wasted DAYS trying to get dev environment to run a simple Laravel tutorial, only to find everything in tutorial was already out of date and everything about Laravel had changed. That doesn't save time, that wastes everyone's time, money and energy. Trongate PHP framework I can get up and running (and it can build a backend and API for me) in a couple of minutes....

    Nice documentary! It's very weird that Ruby on Rails and Railscasts is not mentioned though. Laravel basically started as a PHP port of Ruby on Rails (which been around since 2004). All the contributors is awesome, but David Heinemeier Hanson and the Ruby on Rails core team should at least be mentioned, since their work clearly influenced the framework in the first place.

      The comment that I was looking for. No ones here has mentioned RoR.
      I'm a Laravel developer with 3+ years of experience, and a few days ago I started learning Ruby and because of that I found comments about what you mentioned.
      Do you have a source where I can learn more about how Laravel was influeced by RoR?

    • @johanandre5338
      @johanandre5338 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@juliosalguero425 first of all, RoR was extracted from Basecamp and was first released in 2004. If you compare Laravel (and Django for that matter) and Rails it has adopted almost all key features and framework design that made Rails successful in the first place, like convention over configuration, database migrations, asset pipeline, command-line tooling etc. To me, it’s quite clear that Laravel would not exist if Rails was not invented.
      I really don’t mean to bash Laravel though, but I think it’s very strange to not mention the inspiration.
      The documentary is like a band who covers a Beatles tune, and then giving interviews explaining how they did the songwriting process…
