Very helpful! Thank you very much! Don't know if I'll ever bother having this fixed properly. So easy to do once a month when I have to refuel the TDI. Cheers!
Thank you!! We weren't able to get the inner small panel removed--the screw is at an angle that makes removing it impossible. How did you do it (your video skips that part)? My wife was able to get her arm behind it and open the tank door. But we'd really like to know how to remove that tiny screw. THANKS
Hi Brian - do you mean the plastic panel behind the fire extinguisher? I had to use brute force to get the upper part of the panel loose. Then I was able to get my hand in a pull the activator. As far as I remember I wasnt able to remove the panel either 🤷♂️
lars bo axelholm Yes, that plastic panel. There is a small screw at the top that connects to the metal and it is impossible to unscrew it because of the angle. Terrible design! Your video really helped tremendously: we were almost with an empty tank!!
@@earinsound You need the appropriate torx bit, and a 4-6" extension on your ratchet to remove the screw. (at least for an '02 passat wagon) I was able to get mine out then removed the inner plastic piece completely. That part lives in the trash now so I can just use the work around whenever I need to fill up.
Much appreciated for you in this video. My stupid gas door got stuck and I didn't know what the h*** was going on.
Thank you, sir. Without your video my wife would have been stranded away from home. I can't emphasize enough how grateful I am.
Prob the most underrated video on TH-cam. Like the other comments I was stranded until I seen your video thanks
FINALLY found a video that would give me the right answer.... thank you so much
You saved my life! I was out of gas when this happened.

Did you have to take the whole door apart to fix the button or is there a way to take it out great video. Think mine is the switch too
Thank you.
Thank you, man.
Glad, I could help ;-)
Thank you so much!!!
Top man
What was the final / official fix for this issue? Was it your switch motor?
cassie w. Hi Cassie, the problem was the switch /button in the door (the one you pull to open the fuel-lid)
@@AXELHOLM38 thank you for responding. To clarify, the mechanic finally resolved it by installing a new button?
cassie w. Yes
