Try Akatsuki no Yona (Yona of the Dawn) I just recently watched it and loved it. A princess with a strong personality growth throughout the series. It's such an adventure. Genres: Shoujo, romance, historical (in a way), fantasy, adventure
I just hope she'll try it and see if she wants to watch it or not. (Though I don't know about the dub version of this cause I'm mostly subs. Is it any good?)
I also watch mostly sub versions. I tried the dub version - I prefer the japanese voices (especially Hak's voice). But since I only watched a little part of the dub version I can't say if it's bad or good.

You should try Hakkenden: Eight Dogs of the East, they go through adventures to find the rest of the Eight Dogs of the East and it has a unique story behind it, its’s very similar to Akatsuki no Yona and it has really nice soundtracks mixed in I suggest you try it out
