- In this video I cover care, husbandry, and feeding for the Hapalopus formosus (formerly Hapalopus sp. Colombia), also known as the Pumpkin Patch tarantula. This includes handling, temperature, humidity, set up, enclosure, substrate, lifespan, and size for spiderlings, juveniles and adult tarantulas. I cover essentially everything you need to know about set up and taking care of your tarantula. 🖖💚🕷

Hey Richard , how about some arboreal videos next ? Show some love to all our tree dwellers out there.
@@nicksmith5387 I've done a lot of arboreal videos. Avicularia avicularia, Caribena versicolor, Poecilotheria metallica, Poecilotheria ornata, and the Psalmopoeus irminia. But there will be more coming!
@@tarantulacollective This is true. You have dedicated plenty of time to some of my favorite arboreal's. Man i also think a video on nutrition would be good. If your a beginner or advanced keeper a fresh reminder of what your feeding would be cool. All the do 's and donts.
the_tarantula_collective great pick for oct. 1st
been a year into the hobby One of the first Ts I brought was a pumpkin patch one of my favourite Ts a long side the GBB
those are both GREAT tarantulas!
The Pumpkin Patch is definitely on my Wants list. Well the extent of my pumpkin carving skills is about as good as Charlie Brown’s ghost costume cutting skills... “ I got a rock” . However if I didn’t buy any pumpkins to carve I could probably save to buy my own pumpkin patch ... Awesome video. Loved the animation at the beginning 😁
thanks man....those animation sequences are trying...but i think it is worth it in the end
am i the only person who thinks this t just looks like a big true spider
It’s carapace reminds me of a wolf spider along with its color of legs
The spinnerets like nothing like those of araneoids and the chelicerae are arranged differently.
Andrew Broeker nerd
It does! Kinda leggy
@@andrewbroeker9819 I like your funny words magic man
This may sound creepy but Like to listen to your voice when I'm falling asleep. It's so comforting and calming.
It isn't creepy, people say things to that effect nearly every video I upload...lol. I am actually a trained meditation teacher so I think the inflection of my voice switches to "guided meditation" mode whenever I'm recording...lol. I have been kicking around the idea of making a tarantula themed guided meditation video...not sure how that would go over...lol. what do you think?
@@tarantulacollective I think that would be a great idea!
Lol I’ve done the same thing.
@@tarantulacollective Makes sense now, why even arachniphobes will listen to you. You're a perfect fit to ease those fearful of tarantulas into learning more and even keeping them. Keep up the good work, love watching and listening to your content.
I can see that too 😅
How beautiful 🧡 I'm highly considering adding one to our family
awesome!
Do it! You won’t regret it! And they grow pretty quick. Mine started off tiny tiny. Like 1/8” or smaller. It’s up to 2” to 2 1/2” now. Pretty sure mines a female because she just keeps growing. She’s about to molt again!!
I had a hard time picking pumpkin patch or leetzi. I got a leetzi sling, but will get one of these bad boys (or hopefully girls) soon.
Great video to get everyone in the halloween spirit. Its truly amazing how mother nature can make something some people find so terrifying to be absolutely stunning. Great work again Richard , love your vids!
thank you Nick...yes, mother nature sure pulled out all the stops on this species
I have 2 female pumpkin patches. Their my favourite. Both are incredibly sweet natured and love attention. First day I had opened one of them she ran up my arm and just sat there and watched me. And didn't want to go into her new house. The other one was a bit skittish at first. Then she started coming up. my arm and watching whats going around. Id not change them for the world . And their so very beautiful.
Chriss from London UK
Hearing you talk about the pumpkin patch set up has made me think you should do a top 10 enclosure setup.
I got one of these as a tiny sling for my birthday at the end of August. So far they are doing well and it's unreal how something so tiny can grow into such a large beautiful T! (large compared to most spiders lol)
Happy freaking birthday! That is awesome you got a t for your birthday! No one has ever given me a tarantula for my birthday before. Tanya at Fear Not Tarantulas did send me a couple H. pulchripes as wedding present though.. that was pretty epic.
@@tarantulacollective Thanks! I also got a curly hair sling and a Mexican red rump that's a juvenile. I want to look for an Arizona blonde next :3 Once you get one T....you can't stop XD
bought my first tarantula (brachypelma hamorii) recently and received one of these guys as a freebie!
Perfect timing, picking up mine in the morning 🎃
that is awesome!
Started getting tarantulas where I work. I've never been so close to them, ever, and I am completely overwhelmed. However, this species has me completely intrigued.
Like your style man - dedicated! I have this tarantula and i find your care & husbandry spot on!
Thanks a lot Peter!
Girlfriend bought a GBB and I have a small Daring jumping spider. Was thinking about buying one of these as my first T. I grew up arachnophobic so my gf has really helped me over come my fears with her GBB. Thanks for the video chief!
Oh my gosh I was just thinking of getting one of these! It’s like you read my mind!!! Haha keep up the great work!! 🤗
totally was reading your mind!
Wow i know so many more about the pumpkin patch thx alot man!
youre welcome!
Love the info I just got my first tarantulas yesterday one is a pumpkin patch sling and the other is a Mexican red knee sling.🧡🖤
I'm already so obsessed with them!!
I just watched your pumpkin patch tarantula video again as I am getting 2 of the large species. Great video thanks again.
Stoked! Just got two Pumpkin Patch slings ordered! (large variety)
Getting my pumpkin patch today!! Always love your videos and sets up!
Yay! Thank you!
@@tarantulacollective seriously I really appreciate the details and everything you put in. The info is great and really helps with seeing if what I want is good for my homes. Have a good day man and keep up the good vibes!
I just got mine today! You aren't kidding about the tiny sling.
only discovered this spider a few days ago and i feel in love because of the color! and you've just convinced me that i defiantly need to get one haha
Sorry been working so I missed this vid. You forgot to add, they are masters... MASTERS at escapes. Houdini has done it to me twice but luckily they thought the plants on my window seal were theirs. Also I found the best enclosure for this spiderling.... was a maggot container from the fish store. The lip seals tight, already has pin holes on top and is pretty small. Found it's best for my dwarf spiderlings who like to huh... explore....
I watch this video a couple of times maybe 😂 maybe 5x watching it this is my inspiration I also got that specie and I really love how they web up my semi arboreal set up enclosure wishing you've got a haplopelma feeding vlog soon I'm always staying tune
This is definitely one of my next T purchases

I just bought my first one from a reptile convention and I am so excited!
The Tarantula Collective this is gonna be my first Tarantula! It's perfect since my favorite holiday is Halloween! And plus I used to breed small lizards. So I've had experience with small and fast critters! But before I get one I'm gonna be watching your channel and Tom Moran' s channel to educate myself! Stay safe brother💪👺
Just might have to get me a couple of these beauties. Great video as always
glad you enjoyed it!
This is honestly the best one out there
Great vídeo and as usual the informations are great with multiple details.

Getting a 3-4cm, H. Colombia large, on October 13th. My buddy is downsizing their collection and I got lucky to snap this girl up for only £18!
We have a long weekend here in the UK and I'm binge watching your old videos ❤ best long weekend ever!
I went to this exotic animal convention, and saw these guys!
And I was very interested in them, and so I looked up some care guides. And wouldn't you know it, you uploaded!
Thank you so much :D
As always my friend, great video.

another excellent video i always feel my membership is worth every penny and that's rare on TH-cam.
I managed to pick up two of these as a bonus gift from spidersfactory yesterday 😎🎃🕷️ So glad I have these vids to fall back on for sound advice as I grow my collection 👍🤓
I LOVE HALLOWEEN...SO I MUST SAY THATS A BAD ASS SPIDER!!! GREAT VIDEO RICHARD
This is my favorite time of the year! I am looking forward to decorating the house this weekend with spider webs and spiders... and skulls... so many skulls....lol. we decorate more for halloween than christmas. Hahahaha. What did you think about that Halloween intro? Too much?
@@tarantulacollective bro!!! That intro was SICK AS FUCK!!!...that kind of intro grabs the viewers attention right away..almost thought a scary movie was about to start thats how good it was...and yes i go harder on Halloween decor more than Christmas to lol..I actually have a scary jack-o-lantern tattoo on one side of my neck and a black widow on the other ..thats how much i love Halloween bro 😁
I got the this T last Tuesday from FNT. I love 'em already. They are super tiny but it is already webbing a lot and chilling at the mouth of the burrow quite a bit. Love this! Keep it up, Richard!
Congrats on the new sling Josh! that is awesome..thanks for the support!
I love these videos dude
Keep it up man
I've always been a fan of this species XD
They look absolutely gorgeous
thank you
I am definetly going to be doing this pumpkin carving thing. I will have to go through my wife's profile because I dont use Facebook, but I will be trying at that. I have been wanting this t for a while so this sounds like a fun way to get it! Keep up it up with the fun stuff bud!
awesome! i look forward to seeing it!
Great video 😁🤘 keep them coming
will do!
Picked up 2 this past weekend at the Anaheim super reptile show so happy to find you have a video about them I love your videos
Nice score! These are such a cool species!
Finally ❤❤❤❤ got mine today
Again, an awesome vid. Got a lot of info and husbandry notes and yeah, holloween is coming up 👌🏼❤ good content. tarantula channels should hit up a photoshoot this coming holloween on the pumpkin patch 😁
that would be a cool idea
Thanks for the info! Just picked one up, and the little guy webbed up right away!
Please cover for the H. Maculata. I love your vids. Love from the Philippines. ❤
sure thing...i just fed my 3 last night
My Pumpkin Patch, my fourth one, the only one I have had luck keeping alive is in an amac box and I Love it. Plenty of ventilation and easier to maintain and keep an eye on, although it is burrowed. The dram bottles didn't work for me with my first three. Yes, I cried. What can I say, this isn't just a hobby for me. I'm a T Mommy and they are my family.
I recently discovered your channel and oh boy it's one of my favourites! Thank you for all the amazing content
Please do Tarantula Tuesday about Brachypelma Hamorii some time
I definitely will! Thank you for suggesting it!
Beautiful little tarantula. I might have to get one
Absolutely love the video man! I have the large version as well and it sure did pack on the size quick.
Mexican red knee is my #1 favorite trantula!!!
The pumpkin patch is one of my favorite. I recently picked one up at the last reptile expo
adorable spider love it's coloring
Just won one of these guys :D
btw "groot" means big in dutch and "klein" means small in dutch.
Dunno if that's also how the two forms are written but that's how it sounds to me.
nice video as usual, really like all the information and can't wait until our teeny tiny one grows a little bigger.
Little note regarding "groß" and "klein": as you mentioned correctly "groß" means "large" and "klein" means "small". Despite the fact that it looks pretty similar to a "B" the "ß" in "groß" is a very special german letter though called "eszett" which transscribes to "ss" in basically any other language. There is a slight difference in german between the two though: the vowel in front of it is long with "ß" whereas it would be short if followed by "ss" but the s-sound is still very sharp.
My name originally has an "ß" at the end as well but as it constantly creates problems as I have been living abroad for almost 8 years now I decided to simply use the transcribed version to avoid confusion ;-)
Awsome vid as always! Would love a vid on Psalmopoeus pulcher next if possible :)
I did a video on the P. irminia...the husbandry is very similar. I am waiting on my P. pulcher to molt before shooting that video. Do you have a P. pulcher or are you just thinking about getting one?
I come Fromm Germany. The First Video ever i have see for the Hapalopus . I have 1 Girls very nice Spezies
Welcome! Awesome to have you from the other side of the globe!
Hi. First video I've seen of yours..... actually u were mentioned on Tom's Big spiders.... so here I am now! Great video. Beautiful T! Currently I don't own one, lol but now u have planted the thought. Looking forward to checking out your other videos... specifically NW... ☺☺🕷🕷
Very cool. Glad you found my channel. Tom is a great dude and an excellent keeper and teacher. Cant say enough good things about that guy. I have playlists on my channel where you can watch all the care and husbandry videos or even just catch up on all the Tarantula Tuesday uploads. What kind of Ts do you have so far?
Thank you for the info about this amazing species. I have a little male I love so much. His name is pugsy. he is very fast but dun to watch.
Nice video. Beautiful T. 🕸
Thanks Michael!
Added to wish list
it is a cool one to have!
Getting one of these as a sling Thursday along with a juvenile Avic Purpurea. I'm so excited! Starting to actually build my collection a bit.
Oh man, I need to find my paints and get a pumpkin so I can get a pumpkin patch!
heck yeah!
I am getting mine this coming tuesday!!
awesome!
WOW!!! I have never seen this type of Tarantula before! This is so beautiful 😍!!! My fiancee thinks it's creepy, but not everyone likes spiders like I do! But, at least with me, she gets to learn more about Spiders than she ever thought about before. Proverbs 30:28 mentions the Spider. Stay focused. Work hard. That's what spiders do, no matter the obstacle. Love Spiders!!!
Tarantula Tuesday ❤️
I love these beauties!!! Tyfs God bless you
Thanks a lot Debbie! Do you have one yourself?
@@tarantulacollective not yet..
I have a sling but didn’t know there were two types of Pumpkin Patch’s and the seller didn’t specify. Guess I’ll just have to wait to see how big she/he gets 🤷🏻♀️
Im getting one soon im so excited 🥺🥺
I love these little guys. I have a small MM. Will get a large soon. I believe when I got it, it was 1/8"
that is awesome!
Dude you're so awesome I come to you for any information
I appreciate that!
Hiya another great informative video from you. What a beautiful little t and I love the great quality footage you get for us. Thankyou for sharing with us 😁👍
thanks Anna...it is always nice reading your supportive comments :)
I just adopted one. I absolutely love it. Still learning about it, so thank you for this video 😊
Love these videos Richard keep them coming. Thanks for all the information you provide in your videos.
Thanks a lot! How's your collection doing these days?
@@tarantulacollective Great. Hoping my Pterinopelma sazimai female will drop an eggsac. My Balfouri communal is in premolt lol. Everyone else is doing great . Thanks for asking.
I love my pumpkin patches. They are still very small. They were tiny slings when I got them. I spent the first several months constantly wondering if they had escaped because they were so small I couldn’t see them hiding most of the time.
Oh man...that's the worst feeling. Not knowing if they're hiding or gone. I struggle resisting the urge to dig up slings like that, but it is tough. Did you resist or did you end up digging them up for proof of life?
@@tarantulacollective I resisted for a long time. I did end up digging one up after a while cause container started to smell. I thought either it was gone or dead. Turns out it was alive and just buried, think I just didn't have enough ventilation in that container leading to the smell. Not sure. They are both about 3/4" now, one spends most it's time out, the other is still buried most of the time but it's now big enough to see moving around down in the hole.
Oh wow! Love this species 🥰🥰🥰 They’re really beautiful.
Such a gorgeous species! Btw, I know it's sad, but as for my love of T's, I have to live vicariously through TH-cam videos like this, as I am unable to ever own one myself. Got a roommate (who is family to me) that is deathly terrified of spiders/tarantulas, and said they would move out if I ever brought one home :(
i am sorry to hear that...well feel free to watch my videos anytime you want to live vicariously!
Yeah man, you did your job. Liked and subbed my man🤘😌🤘
Thanks for the sub!
Another awesome video bro.. I'm new to the scene so I take so much away from your video every Tuesday.. had my first Ts for two weeks now and absolutely love it.. thanks again bro your a legend
I appreciate that Chris! What other tarantulas do you have?
the_tarantula_collective I have a green bottle blue from your recommendation and I got a sun tiger as I fell in love after watching your video on them
Hey buddy! Great video by the way. I got 3 of these cool booger’s. I got them as freebies during a visit at my local exotic pet store about 2 yrs ago. Very cool species for any keeper to own and a must get if you don’t have them
That's a score! I live getting freebies and that is wicked you got them from a pet store! We need an exotic pet store in my town! How long have you been keeping?
the_tarantula_collective I’ve been keeping since late 2016
I am really thinking about adding this to my collection
C Elegans for Tarantula Tuesday!
Be sure to watch this Tuesday!
My sling kicked hairs once while I was moving it into a bigger dram vile. It was kinda funny. It’s molted once so far after the insstar molts so it’s still as big as my pinky nail
That is hillarious! I love it when tiny slings are kicking Hair like its gonna do something. So adorable. They're so cool at that size..almost translucent! Do you having pics of it?
Nice video 😎
thanks!
love these guys, this video made me want one even more
Great video as usual man! Could we see a video on the B albo?
yeah! i have it on the list...hope to get to it very soon
great video. i always want a pumkin patch
If you're in the US...you could win 3!
I’m in canada 😅
One of my favorite species. I usually dont double dip on Ts. But I got 3 of them because they're just awesome!
I'm pretty disappointed to hear someone else made a pumpkin patch themed enclosure 😂 cant say im surprised though. I'll have to spice mine up (pumpkin spice pun unintended!)
Hahahahahaha
It is a pretty epic idea...wish I had thought about it! Yours is the coolest I've seen though!
Awesome video, I’ve just got another pumpkin patch t
Another one? How many do you have in total?
the_tarantula_collective I had three two were males and one female, I’ve got 28 tarantulas in total
This is the best Halloween gift you can give to someone. Imagine getting this tarantula gifted on Halloween by a friend. It's such a beauty.

i look forward to seeing your pumpkin
You’re my favorite!
Very beautiful!
Good show.
That's one handsome T . I am on the fence whether this or a Chaco Golden Knee will be my next addition.
that is a tough decision!
I may be able to get a Golden Knee and pick up a Pumpkin patch as a freebie from Fear Not Tarantulas. It all depends on the pricing.
Ive always had a fear of spiders n one day i said thats it no more my buddy owns a pet store n i went in n asked him to get out a turantula n he put a pink toe on my hand i was shaking n as he went to take her away i said no im in love so i learned what i could about them n 2 weeks later i went back n picked her up n thats how i got over my fear n learned to love these beautiful 8 legged creatures n this turantula in ur video is so beautiful 💖💖 i had a fear but i never hurt any of them ever😊
That is very cool. My story is very similar. I am actually working on a video that covers that topic and tells my story about overcoming my fear of spiders! Do you think that's a topic people would like to hear about?
