I'm starting and while everyone says "stick to 16x16, it will be easier..." I find quite difficult to draw in so tiny space where every pixel matters. All submissions where stunning, congratulations!
Yeah the small sizes are really difficult, just do what you find comfortable and learn the techniques and you will get there eventually :D
Yeah, I've found 16 x 16 very difficult. Especially if you are using too many colours. I think the best 16x16 stuff I've done I restricted it to just 4 bold colours, and that worked kind of well.
I think a good balance between "small enough to do fast" but "large enough to include some easy defining details" is 24 x 24. It's small enough still though that you can still get away with just moving a couple pixels for animations. That's a size I like working in.
32 x 32 is great, but at that point you've got enough space that you really do have to pay more attention to shading and whatnot, but more importantly, requires you to have better planned more detailed animation which can greatly increase the time it takes to create.
I go with 64x64 and I'm loving it
@@saultoons I just use the brush and create 100x100 sized blobs
I like the Whale in 17th ... looks kinda silly and funny :) so 17th is my fav.
Yeah the whale's my favourite too

Yeah this was a super fun challenge I’m really excited for this years Septembit! 😄 You should definitely give it a shot!!
Man, it's hard to pick just one, they're all cool in their own way! Really like your style
Thanks Sarah, I know what you mean, too many cute animals to choose from :'D
I love pixel art no matter how much graphics had advanced. And this video brought me lot of nostalgics of the games that I played since childhood in the NES games.
Pixel art is just special!!! :D Thanks for sharing what it means to you
phoenix is my favourite! the dithering effect on the wings look so cool!

A seriously underrated channel your videos are so informative and entertaining. I've dropped a lot of things out of frustration over the years because I wanted results fast. Now i'm at a point in my life were I wish I just toughed it out but thats why i'm here now. My patience has only improved with the years and it's thanks too my frame of mind, a lot of your videos show the true journey of art. A life long commitment. You are one of many teachers in my life and I thank you for that.
Yup, a life long journey indeed! We all learn and grow, doesn't matter what has happened in the past it's great you're back at it, try and have fun with it and all will be good :D

No problem at all, thanks for taking part :D
How amazing! I'm new to pixel art, and I can't believe how much style and originality can be found in 16 bit black and white art. The last one that was animated... wow!
Yeah minimal pixel art is amazing!
i love this video!!! incredible people making incredible 1 bit pixelart!!!
Thanks Sebastian, everyone did an amazing job :D
Very cool! I've been learning Unity and pixel art. This challenge will help me get better!
Good luck! :D
I'm debating between the snake and the cow. I love the simple design of them and I too love the whole "chibi" effect on all the animals. I've been messing around with foods and those are pretty fun. Thank you for these little pictures you do. It's fun and very helpful to see your process!
Yeah I love big head small body chibi style, its just so cartooony and nice hehe
Another good video mate!! Keep it up :)
Cheers Dom! 😄
These are all so cute! They all look great, but the _monster_demon last three fantasy creatures look amazing!

Are you going to do a 2021 version of septembit? i just arrived to the pixel art thing and I'm looking forward to this.
Hey Diana, Yes Septembit will be going ahead in 2021! :)
@@saultoons Woo!!
Thanks for the tutorials! They are great. Any chance you could update the link for resources on this? Old twitter links don't seem to be working.
Hi Oak! No worries at all. The link seems to be working for me, a better alternative for you might be to join the Discord channel where we have all the resources in the #challenges channel as well! Just ask in there and someone can point you in the right direction :) Alternatively, I've added an Imgur link to the description of this video which should contain the resources too! Cheers
This is definitely how I need to better sort out pixel art cause meesa havin a bloody hectic time trying this yrs 24x24 px challenge. Got a derpy Farmer for your Derpy Shark 🤣🤣🤣👍🏼

The shark and unicorn is the best
Thanks Liam, I like them too 😄

You probably already know this, but within the world of manga the style where you deliberately make the head way over-sized compared to the body is called "chibi" :)
Yes! I love it , works really well for small pixel art in this instance heh

You have to do a game with these animals. Where the animals the villager of a Village in a fantasy world where you as a human got there somehow.
Animal Crossing 1-bit!!! :D
Dragon's neat
Thanks, it's one of my favourites too :D
Fodderlabs gets bonus points for the dragon from Strongbad
hahah yes!!
The one by Sweettini_art is the clearest one out of all in my opinion, you can tell at a glance what each animal is
Each artist has their own unique style which I think is the most interesting as it’s such a strong limitation, not trying to find ‘the best’ as that’s subjective imo - though sweettini is very good
I like the 29.....
unicorn=THICC
hahaha
what do you mean 32px is more of a challenge? The hardest format is 16px (apart from them 8px masochists :P). I was maaking game for GB with 16px and it was hardest artistic challenge I have ever approached. Though I'm pretty new to pixel art I have been doing digial art for more thn 15 years.
Yeah it is true that 16px is very hard, generally, the more pixels you have the more you can get away with, so in that sense 32px is easier, but if you're trying to utilise the importance of EVERY pixel the same way you do in a 16px size, then it can be harder in that way haha.
Every pixel counts.
When you changed from 16x to upper you feel like a man flying... yeeeeepppppiii
Im almost 2 months directly. But not everyday i draw since 1year and half ago. I stopped for some months but come back and now i wont stop. Im making my rpg so i dont want to stop and i can't. If i stop them i stop all... because it will be all 2d
Woow i want to enter on this challenger. You could challenge an sprite sheet for an week or 2 days..deppend on the sprite sheet
On final you draw-ed many characters into a single like you did 7 unicorns to finish 1. If you rewind and print your video you can have 7 unicorns and make an family
Yup, there are a lot of options. I think the important thing is also to TAKE A BREAK :D Because you need to live life, and experience things, and get inspired by things in order to create art that you love.
Yeah but the 7 unicorns I did were not up to a standard I wanted, so I kept working until I got the one I like :}
Thanks for watching and commenting
@@saultoons thanks for the tips and answer me. I got inspired more to keep with pixel art and learn more about animations
Wow it's actually hard to do pixel art I copied the doggie but seems a bit off still 😅, it's interesting but hard
Yeah it can be quite difficult, copying *can* help to understand things, but really you need to improve your base understanding of pixel placement, for that I would recommend checking out information on jaggies/doubles/basic shapes, and the importance of a single pixel. My Ultimate Pixel Art Tutorial is a good place to start when learning to 'think in pixels.' - Brandon James Greer, and Pixel Logic PDF book are also solid resources for learning how to think with pixels :)
@@saultoons thank you for taking a moment out of your time to reply really appreciate it :)
