In a few moments going to try this I am just worried with dry canvas dry sponges that it might go smoothly, When I paint animals I always wet canvas with a brush first, I have done lots of paint pours and use of hair dyer, did a chair ocean on seat and a bit of sand. I have my dollar store sponges ready to go

Love, love, love your work. Here’s a tip if you are not priming your canvas,
And although they come primed, use a fine sandpaper block to smooth out your canvas, the quality will be incredible.

This technique would work well, too, for seascapes. Closeup of waves, etc. In fact, this painting looks like it could be a huge wave, it looks very watery/splashy to me. I love it. I'm definitely going to try your technique.
