    I think the reactions to this vid really perpetrates why it needs representation. Before commenting: read this: Do not comment without watching the whole vid and listening to all my points, Keep any refutes respectful or I will delete it, and i spent days researching for this video. Also, I am white and british, in this video i really wanted to highlight why representation in media is important, I in no way am speaking for the poc fans, I am merely echoing the voices i hear.

    Representation is like the cherry on top of a Sunday: it's nice to have but you don't need it to enjoy the Sunday.

    I 100% agree. and it isn't just hoyo, a lot of games have issues with adding dark skin/black characters that aren't a stereotype or made undesirable in some way. This is really solidifying my dream of making either an RPG or otome game with a mostly brown/minority cast

    The thing is, i dont know why hoyoverse decides to base a game on different cultures, label the game as diverse with 'many different people, culture, and cuisine" And then refuse to add different people. If you dont want those dark characters base the game in china or in asia only.

    Ah yes. Despite the Diversity of Cultures, Personalities and life stories. You look to the most Superficial evidence of Diversity in a Chinese Game.

    the sad part about this whole thing is that while yes, it's true that we need more accurate cultural representation, Hoyoverse specifically cares about the CN market. they've shown in rewards for honkai impact where CN would get more rewards and compensation, they listen to CN complaints like the Neuvillette Nerf, and most events are held in the CN market. After Looking at what most members in the CN community replied to about this drama, they were being flat-out racist and not wanting anything more than a "Slight tan" which is why all hoyoverse gives us is characters like Kaeya/Xilonen/Candace, etc. They're catering to the wants of the CN community, not us. There's nothing we can do to change that.

      I've actually seen some of the CN community complain too, while its not a majority it is present. Also a good chunk of the voice actors have been speaking up about this issue too. I have no hope that hoyo will listen to the western fans but we can still try

      Well to be fair, those Same CN fan almost kill an employee or one of the higher up of mihoyo, due hi3rd got exclusive global event incident.
      (P.s. there also some people say that dark skin character didn't sell that well on eastern market, tho I think that's just a minority in my opinion)
      And to be honest..
      would you prefer to please someone who live in the same neighborhood as you, and possibly can hurt you or your friend if they are displeased for your action and tarnish your reputation to the neighborhood/online (the CN fan), or please some stranger who is across the planet and can't do anything to hurt you physically, but will try to tarnish your reputation online? (The global fan)

      @@wutwat7934 yeah i know about the bunny incident from honkai3rd. but yeah it is true that hoyo only cares about CN cuz that affects their relations with the chinese government and that's the most important

    "diversity" just meaning diversity of skin color. there's already plenty of diversity of thought, culture, and traditions in the game. we haven't even seen the region yet, so why are we judging the book by the cover?

    • @FoxiCreates
      @FoxiCreates  หลายเดือนก่อน +17

      While yes there is culture, many people from those cultures have been complaining about the butchering of theirs. And for traditions, they are only ever CN traditions. I also mentioned, it would be nice to have more characters like baizhu. Also, we have had several trailers and the drip marketing for Natlan, to which many are noticing the lack of ethnic diversity. The only reason I focused on skin in this video is because it is the issue that is being discussed at the moment.

      it wouldn't matter if the game existed in a vacuum, but something something coconut tree. colorism exists, and hoyo is perpetuating it

    nah i just think you want every character to be "diverse" by their skin colour alone. Take Natlan its a fictional nation in a fictional game that takes inspiration from different places and cultures in real life but it's not a 1/1 copy therefore the character's skin colour for example is objectively what their creative team wants it to be. You just seem to want to make insertions of predetermined stereotypes of what a "Natlan" character should be simply because the nation took a couple of ideas from black countries. tldr it is not a real country it only took inspiration from real life and is not a 1/1 copy of a real country therefore the characters have no obligation to be dark skined.

    • @artsyygamer

      bestie what? as someone with ancestry from some of the countries hoyo appropriated I can safely say that if they aren't going to represent us accurately in terms of skin color then I would rather them not take inspiration at all if they're just going to whitewash the characters. Like its crazy to me that ya'll will do mental gymnastics to try and defend hoyo and say that what they've been doing isn't bad, instead of listening to people who actually have a connection those regions when they confirm or speak out that it's offensive to them. Like having only pale characters it hurts the players from those places who just want something as basic as to see the characters who are inspired by their cultures to look like them.
      also hoyo didn't take a "couple ideas" from indigenous latin american and african countries the whole ahh region is inspired by those places. Its just crazy to me that hoyo really decided to make characters named Mualani, mavuika (mahuika), kinich, and a bunch of other ones i can't remember and give them the palest skin possible.

    • @creepershaft5780
      @creepershaft5780 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@artsyygamer yh inspired not obliged. If you take multiple ideas from different countries and smash them together like Natland you have all right to do what you want because that has now become your own property/creation. But still I get it I think having dark skinned characters would be cool i like dehya. I think tho when something gets added just for the sake of diversity it tends to be stripped of any personality/identifying characteristics appart from the character being apart of an "ethnic minority".

      How dare people want representation in an area inspired by real world places, if they don’t want us to be upset about it they should base the whole game on China, go touch some grass
