I honestly don't get the Tool comparisons anymore. I think these guys have their own sound now and its fucking amazing. Awesome track, looking forward to the new album.
I kinda have to agree when people compare Cognitive to Tool. But, at least for me, they turned their sound into something of their own in Tellurian. Can't wait to listen to Lykaia!
the comparison works fully with the first album cognitive. still, i don't mind that at all. I really believe that Tool has their own unique style, which makes them a style by themselves. I love Tool and I love Soen. fuck comparisons, I am enjoying the music. they have those riffs where they sound like opeth, but again, I don't fuckin care. they are amazing musicians, except for the singer.
definately! I'm starting to think that tool sounds a bit like Soen :D No seriously, I like Soen better because their albums are pleasant and amazing from stat to finish and tool has so much noise and stuff I dont want to listen to..
Best Metal Progressive band right now! Awsome! Every album is a masterpiece and this gives me the feeling that this will be another one! cheers from Portugal
I don't understand why they don't have they same or MORE recognition than Tool .... Tool is one of my favorite bands as well by the way xD but Soen is giving more to the fans right now than Tool ...
That's kind of the power of Tool. Long silence and out of nowhere release a masterpiece. Soen just delivers masterpiece after masterpiece. (Hopefully they don't run out of gas too soon)
Easy mano. Tool are from America and they build a great cult over the years. Soen are from Sweden and it's not that easy get the word around. They both rock our asses off, and it's more easy to meet in person Soen, than Tool fellas.
Yeah, call it a Tool clone, whatever. That's not going to do either band justice, nor the people who will dismiss them because of it. Tool and Opeth are two of my favourite bands, period, with over a decade listening to both. Personally, I feel they sound more like Opeth than Tool, both sounds are prevalent. However, with Martin being from Opeth prior to this, I have a distinct urge to pay more attention to the drumming. Mad respect for these guys. Glad to see Martin doing much better, and Joel changing up his sound a bit more. I just discovered these guys a few weeks ago and immediately purchased the first two albums. Today, I preordered this one.
Not even to think how many bands have tried to sound like tool without success. When I heard first time Rishloo, one reason why people liked them was because tool's influence.
I rly don't get that hype behind Tool, yep, they're progressive, odd time signatures and stuff, but It feels like they lack melodies, vocal or instumental, they don't have anything catchy in most of their songs. On the other hand you have Opeth for example, Mikael puts at least one catchy moment in every song he makes, he creates very good melodies, so if you give me a listen on any of Opeth's song i can call what song it is. Maybe I'm just stupid or not so proggy, but I think Tool's a bit boring and self-repetitive. But this band sounds more like Opeth, Katatonia and Tool clone, but not only Tool clone for sure.
Love this! I've really been missing out. I heard Martin Lopez was playing in another band several years ago and I totally forgot about it. As much as I love Axe, Lopez was the Opeth drummer that inspired me to start playing again.
this is already a song which I presume strongly inspired by Opeth tbh. So you can think of Opeth is still working behind the curtains. Drums is also ex Opeth: Martin Lopez iirc
This is just awesome. First song i ever hear of this band (mostly into classical music) this is soooo good. Like Tool and Opeth working together and some Pink Floydguys nodding approvingly from over their shoulder. What an amazing surprise.
If Tellurian was a sort of bridge from Tool sound to Opeth, this is the band almost crossing it. I think it makes more sense for them to sound closer to Opeth, given Lopez is also involved on the songwriting here.
eradicate the life, the ones i touched. The earth would swallow I bless the winds demise this burning fills, my goals will hollow ×2run away and leave it all .leave your trail for a moment change the course for a while and give to the presence of conceiving a seventh utopia let me rest in your crater suffocates by your hand be embraced by new action? no more ? So i tried to get the lyrics by myself. Hope i did it right. Help, reviews and corrections are welcome. [couplet]Eradicate all life The ones i touch the earth will swallow I bless them with demise This burning feels, my goals will hollow Run away and leave it all, run away and leave it all Leave the trail for a moment Change the course for a while And give in to the present Conceding a severed utopia Let me rest in your cradle Suffocate by your hands Be embraced by you, (atone?) Immoral, perverted (trial?) [Chorus] Let the skies rain, on the weak and the fallen Let them reach faith and be saved by your glory Tonight the waves will end, signs left to (drain?) A new return of hope, freedom of the pain. [couplet] Keep me close to the marrow, part my skin from the bone Any thoughts of rebellion, are captured and hooked up to a chain When my spirit is broken, and my will disconnects A mirage of existence, will carry this loss into the mist [Chorus] Let the skies rain, on the weak and the fallen Let them reach faith and be saved by your glory Tonight the waves will end, signs left to drain A new return of hope, freedom of the pain. Hollow, shadow, cut my out of this shame Faithless, tiran, let the fear be my faith
Soen shared the lyrics on their Facebook page a few weeks ago. Here they are: Eradicate all life The ones I touch the earth will swallow I bless them with demise This burning field my ghost will hallow Run away and leave it all Run away and leave it all Leave the trail for a moment Change the course for a while And give in to the presence Conceding a severed utopia Let me rest in your cradle Suffocate by your hand Be embraced by the rotten Immoral...perverted...vile Let the skies rain On the weak and the fallen Let them reach faith And be saved by your glory Tonight the wait will end signs left a trace And you'll return unharmed Free of all the pain Keep me close to the marrow Part my skin from the bone Any thoughts of rebellion Are captured and hooked up to a chain When my spirit is broken And my will disconnects A mirage of existence Will carry this life into the next Let the skies rain On the weak and the fallen Let them reach faith And be saved by your glory Tonight the wait will end signs left a trace And you'll return unharmed Free of all the pain Hollow, shadow guide me out of the shame Faceless, tyrant let the fear be my fate
I don't think they can be called a copy of Tool now. I don't even think it's fair to say they initially copied Tool. Yes they were originally inspired by Tool to some degree, as they were also inspired by other bands, but that's not the same as copying. I think Soen really came into their own with Tellurian, and Lykaia is just amazing. I honestly think that with Lykaia they have surpassed Tool. Can't wait to see what they have in store for us next.
cant wait for new album saw you can get new album lykaia and tellurian on vinyl any where you can get cognitive on vinyl? would be great addition to my collection
This song is such a perfect mix of blackwater park'still life opeth and some kind of tool (no i didnt mention this band :) ) i totally enjoy the exopeth drummers flair who relly shows us in this song how opeth could have sound with more progmetal in it today. The bridge with the heavy riff reminds me of opeth' serenity painted death' breakdown and i even hear the lead guitar of heir apparent in the mellow part right before. Great song and album, this band shows progress!.
3:55 totally reminds me of Serenity Painted Death XD I see Martin is still living those Opeth days. Great job guys, keep up the mixture of Tool and Opeth that makes me stick around!
I don't get why people complain. Their songwriting is very distinct, clearly different from Opeth's and Tool's. There are loads of bands out there sounding like a random [insert genre] band. Complain about them.
I really have a strong feeling that Soen's gonna be the next Tool, and I don't mean that as in sound. I mean, they do have certain elements of their sound that are similar to Tool, but I meant the next Tool as in they have a very unique sound, and from what I've heard, haven't released a single bad album. Here's to hoping my prediction will come true!
Loving the sound of Lopez's kit on this album. His playing has been awesome but the drums have sounded too compressed/fake up until this point (started with Ghost Reveries...horrible sounding!). It's nice to hear him going for more of an organic sound, it fits his style better.
I honestly don't get the Tool comparisons anymore. I think these guys have their own sound now and its fucking amazing. Awesome track, looking forward to the new album.
m m agreed!
I kinda have to agree when people compare Cognitive to Tool. But, at least for me, they turned their sound into something of their own in Tellurian. Can't wait to listen to Lykaia!
...but don't all these bands sound like tool? .....so sick of hearing that....open your fucking ears

I so agree with you!! They're actually challenging Tool by my opinion.
I don't understand why they don't have they same or MORE recognition than Tool .... Tool is one of my favorite bands as well by the way xD but Soen is giving more to the fans right now than Tool ...

Francisco Moura yeah ... When I saw soen i could be with them
All their songs are catchy and unforgettable, no matter what album you are listening to
I can't stop listening to that amazing riff at 03:59
That riff at 3:54
TheTorri98 dude that riff indeed 🤘🏼❤️
that riff is incredible
That part is like taking a walk again in the Blackwater park after all these years. The headbangin cannot lie, that's amazin !
Definitely reminds me of something off Opeth's Deliverance Album
Serenity Painted Death with a BWP touch, I would say.
Great song by a great new band. I saw them live in Wroclaw few days ago and was really impressed.
3:54 The Ghost Reveries is strong with this one.
Amazing riff!

Joshua Jones Oh...you will be loving them for sure ...Fraccions is "heavier" IMO

Sounds a little "Black Water Parky" and I like it!
The kind of music i wish Opeth was doing today...
Just awesome
myewgul you don't have to expect anything from Opeth, everything you need is here with soen
this is already a song which I presume strongly inspired by Opeth tbh. So you can think of Opeth is still working behind the curtains. Drums is also ex Opeth: Martin Lopez iirc
Opeth already did something similar. They evolved to something more.
CKN brought me here. Never heard of this band. Glad I found it. The music is heavy but chill at the same time. I could relax with this
That riff around 4:00 sounds like straight from Still Life (by Opeth). Which is definetely not a bad place to be :)
tremendo tema, esperando con ansias el nuevo disco y que visiten Chile !!

AWESOME
Yeah, heavy Opeth here, but I wasn't done with Opeth sounding like this, so all the better. Lopez is amazing, as always - love his playing.
God bless Spotify for recommending this amazing song!! Instant fan!
My Album OF The Year thus FAR!! I don't see/hear anything being better. But it's still early.
Thanks for your music!
Got recommended by a Rishloo group to check these guys out. Fantastic. Good stuff by Soen.
Cognitive was great, Tellurian was some next level shit, cant wait for the new album.. See ya on 3rd Feb Guys!! #ONIT
Next month I will see them live for the first time!!! So excited!
Won't wait! Liked before hearing!

Yep, just what I thought. This album, at the first listen, sounds like a darker Opeth (when Mikael went full clean).
Martin Lopez is an amazing drummer :)
love the video & track..
SOEN have now their own sound. This is probably the best album of the band.
New fan of Soen right here! 👍 Really loved Cognitive, now it's time to enjoy the new stuff.
Really Amzing. I'm so awaiting the release of the CD. Already bought concert tickets and this teaser song match my expectations.

So i tried to get the lyrics by myself. Hope i did it right.
Help, reviews and corrections are welcome.
[couplet]Eradicate all life
The ones i touch the earth will swallow
I bless them with demise
This burning feels, my goals will hollow
Run away and leave it all, run away and leave it all
Leave the trail for a moment
Change the course for a while
And give in to the present
Conceding a severed utopia
Let me rest in your cradle
Suffocate by your hands
Be embraced by you, (atone?)
Immoral, perverted (trial?)
[Chorus] Let the skies rain, on the weak and the fallen
Let them reach faith and be saved by your glory
Tonight the waves will end, signs left to (drain?)
A new return of hope, freedom of the pain.
[couplet] Keep me close to the marrow, part my skin from the bone
Any thoughts of rebellion, are captured and hooked up to a chain
When my spirit is broken, and my will disconnects
A mirage of existence, will carry this loss into the mist
[Chorus] Let the skies rain, on the weak and the fallen
Let them reach faith and be saved by your glory
Tonight the waves will end, signs left to drain
A new return of hope, freedom of the pain.
Hollow, shadow, cut my out of this shame
Faithless, tiran, let the fear be my faith
That sounds actually much better then what i understood. I changed it. :)
cool,cheers
frenk prinsse I hear "signs left a trace"
"will carry this loss (i hear "life") into the mist"
Soen shared the lyrics on their Facebook page a few weeks ago. Here they are:
Eradicate all life
The ones I touch the earth will swallow
I bless them with demise
This burning field my ghost will hallow
Run away and leave it all
Run away and leave it all
Leave the trail for a moment
Change the course for a while
And give in to the presence
Conceding a severed utopia
Let me rest in your cradle
Suffocate by your hand
Be embraced by the rotten
Immoral...perverted...vile
Let the skies rain
On the weak and the fallen
Let them reach faith
And be saved by your glory
Tonight the wait will end signs left a trace
And you'll return unharmed
Free of all the pain
Keep me close to the marrow
Part my skin from the bone
Any thoughts of rebellion
Are captured and hooked up to a chain
When my spirit is broken
And my will disconnects
A mirage of existence
Will carry this life into the next
Let the skies rain
On the weak and the fallen
Let them reach faith
And be saved by your glory
Tonight the wait will end signs left a trace
And you'll return unharmed
Free of all the pain
Hollow, shadow guide me out of the shame
Faceless, tyrant let the fear be my fate
Love this band. Solid track.
Damn those are some tasty riffs, especially the one around 4:00
Great track
udyr no tiene un lovo plizzzzz vasta con dárselas de muscos porfaaa
Love it.

TIGHT!
SUPER
Found my new favourite band
in my honest opinion i catch more of a Katatonia/Opeth feel
TJ Smith This song has Opeth vibes, thats for sure!
in the drums I hear a lot of tool as well though
having opeths old drummer will do that :)
3:55 totally reminds me of Serenity Painted Death XD I see Martin is still living those Opeth days. Great job guys, keep up the mixture of Tool and Opeth that makes me stick around!
amazing as I expected! will it be available on google play music?
😍😍😍
OMFG! THIS ....REALLY ...HAPPENED
I came to see if anyone else heard Tool and Opeth. Glad I’m not the only one. Love the mix!
Edit: why is everyone mad? Everyone has influences...
The riff at 3:54 is orgasmic
This is awesome!
(Also guys, the video is unlisted - is that on purpose? It cannot be discovered unless you have the actual URL)
Public now! \m/

выше всяких похвал!
Can someone please make tabs for this song? I want to learn it but learning by ear isn't my strong point.
The one dislike on this video was from Maynard. He's mad that he's getting out Maynar'd.
Draydince lmfao! yes....it was him. had to be
wow
where is the kick drum ????? x.x
I swear riffs sound the same as Kuraman. But as always, it is awesome
Mirage of existence just about explains it. \m/
Damn this grooves hard!!!
Gee, it's like Tool shagged Opeth and we've got this masterpiece of a band! :-D
I don't get why people complain. Their songwriting is very distinct, clearly different from Opeth's and Tool's. There are loads of bands out there sounding like a random [insert genre] band. Complain about them.
Agree entirely
Soen is fucking amazing!
come to greece!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The song could easily be a part of Blackwater Park at 3:54. Not complaining in the least.
on every fucking song on youtube there has to be someone saying this band sound like that band
SOEN RULES !!!!!!!!!
why was this album taken off of Spotify??
Leave the trail for a moment,
Change the course for a while..
Why do some of these riffs sounds like Blackwater Park era Opeth??
Either way, phenomenal track. Excited for things to come.
Probably because Lopez writes the songs here and knows too well how Opeth's tracks are written as well.
Loving the sound of Lopez's kit on this album. His playing has been awesome but the drums have sounded too compressed/fake up until this point (started with Ghost Reveries...horrible sounding!). It's nice to hear him going for more of an organic sound, it fits his style better.
To much Blackwater Park and Lateralus incluences, i love it.
where is the kick drum >:(
SHIT! such a powerful song
My god, this is good.
Wow
